@@Hooeyhokum only problem with this is that your using an audio module instead of the instrument or synth. so you cant adjust any of the settings as you play on the fly... been tryin to wrap my head around a work around for weeks tryin to figure this out....
Baffling that you can’t use your own chord sets! It would be such an easy firmware update too! Your triad chord stacking method is so simple yet makes so much sense. What a great way to easily get 7/9/11/13 extensions.
I love chords and and to create a bass line I used my ear or memorized the chord notes and used them to find the bass line. But I had never thought of using it only with the last note of the chords. It's great and easy.Thank you
Jef, this was immensely helpful in understanding programmed chords on a level understandable for relative beginners (such as myself). This translated perfectly to aid in deepening my understanding on the MPC side of things. Can't thank you enough.
Loved this one. As you say, one to come back to again and again. All my favourite artists are those who bust out of genre boundaries, so I will not be lobbying NI about customising chord mode sets.🤗
@Jef Gibbons I know it's not the same as an inversion, but when in chord set mode, I sometimes play with the white buttons on top to change the octave of the whole cord on the fly, or tease into the target chord by going a halftone deeper and then play the actual chord. It's fun! Just like your great videos...:)
Great video :) 100 percent with you on the custom Chord Sets. It's my biggest gripe with the Maschine, and if I ever stop using it it will most likely be the main reason for that.
Another Miles head, love it. Looking forward to your Maschine take on Modal forms. Maybe then you'll consider addng some magisterial purple to that pop orange to give us a psychedelic vibe :)
Lol. I usually just stick with minor Triads.I’m mostly making Dub and Dub techno or some sort of Electronic genre (Recently some Future Garage Hybrid) I use chords and scales on Maschine a lot as well as on my Novation keyboard. It really has changed and helped how I write tracks.I Have been trying a few more complex chords and suggestions from scaler 2 when I Use it. Still trying how to use things like this in my workflow. Its clear you really understand this stuff as a Jazz keyboardist. Thanks for the tutorial and tips! Will play around with it more on Maschine next time I start working on something.
Yeah custom chords has been a long standing request over on the Maschine forum - www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/custom-chords-scales.315819/ Till then there is a VST called Cthulhu which allows you to indirectly create custom chords for the Maschine [and most other Daws] xferrecords.com/products/cthulhu
Following up on your query and numero uno request: does maschine let you create your own chord sets yet? lol cheers and thanks for the wonderful video!
First off great video! You mentioned inversions of chords. I'm just in chords section of the MK3 and I noticed in page 2 there's a function to change to the chord position. Would this function be the same as inverting the chord?
Hello I have had this Maschine for a little over a week, I am new to NI and this video has been very helpful, you did an amazing job for those new to the Maschine MK3. I have a Novation 49SL MK3 connected to the Midi Ports, is that just a waste of time, or is it needed in order for them to communicate with one another? In the video you showed a M32 Keyboard/Midi Controller and you were able to use it along with the Maschine. Thank you and I look forward to hearing your response. Best Always -HFgoodvibes
Very important question (for me): Whether can Maschine app v.2 display (on PC screen) type of chords which I play by Micro MK3 in Chord Set mode? As to the guitarist, me it is necessary to know what scale to play.
Hello Jef, Thanks for that! Would you be interested in making a video about integrating Maschine Plus, S49II and Maschine2 app routing in cubase 11 (nuendo) then moving from controller mode to stand alone for live use on Maschine Plus only. Would like to export elements from cubase and M2 back to MPlus, (and if that might involve turning tracks into audio only, not sure). And maybe how Expansions might work in cubase too, as it relates to S49ll and MPlus. you may have covered this already. Well anyway.... lol you are the best!
can you make a video of how you implement Maschine into your DAW? I can route the channels to each channel in logic but then you lose the ability to use chords and and the functionality of the Maschine mkiii
Creating custom chord sets is also my #1 feature I expect for custom chords progression. Sadly, seams to be far away in the maschine development roadmap.
But what scales are those complex chords based on? Say I want to play guitar on top of my chords or perhaps use autotune. I then need to know what scale's being used. Is it like phrygian or mixolydian and what not?
It gets complicated for sure! I have a video that might help… hit me back with specific questions! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jrwkIktj8wo.htmlsi=VSq8lnam7QLGVEpB
This is another reason MPC is far superior to Maschine. You can add custom chord progressions, arpeggios and midi sets. I've been wanting to try mk3 (used $300 w software incl) but even a used MPC One for $400 blows Maschine away.
There’s a difference between playing in C Major and in A minor… many chords are emphasized differently so they give you more options for the important ones… and the minor keys can have major or minor V chords. Really becomes important in the jazzier sets of chords.
@@jefgibbons thats for the reply. What i meant to say is why are all major and minor chords bundled together whereas in any scale you would have a combination of the two. I like the option of having variety of chords but to make it useful one would need to sample a major and minors seperately and put them in a sampler and work around like you did.
Hi Jef, Thanks for yet another great video!! I fully agree with your number uno request, -Maschine really really needs the feature enabling the user to define their own chords/chrodsets either from a predefined chordlist or just by pressing keys on a connected midi keyboard. It's a totally nobrainer, I would be really simple to implement -thrust me, I'm a c++ programmer myself... -I really can't figure out why these sleepy germans in Hamburg don't get it...But it's just like their car industry...They think that they are on top of everything, while they are getting overhauled by everyone.... Just take a look on AKAI, they are way ahead....Lot better chord features, better drum pads, and MUCH MUCH larger displays. But again, thanks for at super video! -we want more please! :-) :-) :-)
