Now that we are starting to slide in the summer months, it's time we start lowering the amounts of Nitrogen that we put down on the lawn. But we also want to make sure our lawns stay healthy and green. So what do we do? We put the iron to it! In this video, Paul will cover how to use 7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect™ Turf & Ornamental Fertilizer Plus 6% Iron to keep the yard green through the heat of summer. He will also touch on what Chlorosis is in turf grass and how to fix it.
7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect™ Turf & Ornamental Fertilizer Plus 6% Iron is a simple and economical way to correct chlorosis issues in turf and ornamentals. The iron is chelated with citric acid to form an organic chelation bond. This bond allows for a consistent greening effect on chlorotic plants and provides a deep green color to turf. The low level application rate makes this product ideal as an additive to summer time application of fertilizer, or as a stand-alone product for certain application(s) during the growing season.

I was thinking the same thing when Paul said nothing mixes well with it as I was considering trying the DD cocktail... How much Nitrogen per 1,000 sf does the GreeNe EfFect deliver at the recommended rate of 8oz? Wouldn’t this push some decent growth?

I mixed greeen effect, rgs, and d-thatch last week all in the same 31 gallon tank. It sprayed fine and the lawn like freaking awesome this week. Not sure why you can't mix this with other products but I've had no problems at all. I filled the tank half full of water and then dumped in all the chems and used my drill with a paint mixer to slosh it all together.

if you are mixing in water first, you should be fine! Fertility and Soil Stimulant products do not play well together in concentrate. - Castleberry

D K yes that is correct. I mixed up 7-0-0/o-o-2 RGS and Dethatch with no problems in a 55 Gal 2 GpM tank sprayer. Put RGS in first thou if you do that mix.

Could you explain the best way to do this with an Ortho Sprayer? I have 3200 sq/ft I used 28oz in my ortho sprayer at 2.5 setting, but didn’t add water into the sprayer. Is this okay?

It's probably iron that stains. If so power washing should take it off pretty easy.

WHEN you get it on the driveway, Lysol Toilet bowl cleaner should take care of it. A little scrub scrub and it should lift it nicely. Also just rinsing with water immediately after the app should help. It is the iron in the product that causes the stain. You are most welcome. Glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful. For this product, there is no watering necessary. Give it a little time to dry on the grass, then you can resume your normal watering program.

Welcome to Summer! Now that we're here can you do a detailed video with before and after clips on D-Thatch? I'll be applying once my order doesn't get destroyed by FedEx during shipment and want to make sure I throw it down correctly. Is it OK to apply if there's a lot of rain in the forecast, or do I wait for some dry time to allow the yeast and bugs to get to work?

Yeah...no joke! Summer came in fast. Like a 2x4 across the face. I am planning on a D-Thatch video soon. Stay tuned for that. I like to try and time my apps a day before a rain event if possible. I have been battling Grey Leaf spot in St Augustine since May of this year in South Texas! Have put down zero N since the problem was diagnosed… Think I have it about 95% cured and have been jonesing to put down 7-0-0 now for weeks. Would you recommend holding off until the leafspot is 100% gone? Any other suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for all of the information you put out!

I have Bermuda that is doing good after bad run w fungus. What can I do to bring phosphorus levels down. Just had soil study (Uga coop) pH is 6.3. calcium very high. Potassium is medium. Zinc and manganese are sufficient.

I sprayed 8oz/1000 on the lawn and what was left over I sprayed some ornamentals. The ornamentals took a big hit and got burned pretty good. 😬 was it too much?!

What's the best method to apply D-Thatch to get the most out of it? Should I use the ortho or should I mix it in a tank sprayer and use that. I used the ortho to apply it once and I didn't really notice much of a difference but I feel like I gave it too much water and it didn't sit where it needs to be. Is this possible and should I use less water and or tank spray or am I just overthinking this?

Great question. I used my 12 gallon push sprayer and had good results. Can't speak to a hose end because I have not tried it. But I have heard of some folks having good results from that as well. I think either is fine. - Castleberry

Any temp restrictions? Summer months in Mid Missouri are usually in the 90's-100's. If yes, what time of day do you recommend you spray it. AND....as it has been asked by a few...no JTLK "Double Dark"?

Great question. I am a fan of early morning or late evening apps before the heat of the day sets in. It does contain a small amount of Nitrogen, so I would not apply when temps are at 85 or higher. You won't cause harm but always better to play on the side of caution. You should also Apply in accordance with best management practices (BMP’s) established by your Cooperative Extension Service. And observe any State or Local fertilizer application regulations. If you are mixing those two together in water first, you should be fine. Lots of folks have done that without issue. Just wash your tank out after. - Castleberry

Awesome question. SO far, the Unicorn sprayer. Reason being, I can cover way more ground without having to drag a hose. Using a hose end on 22k square feet is....stressful. Applying a healthy dose of zinc and iron should help balance out levels and maintain plant health. 7-0-0 at the high rate through the summer months will help. - Castleberry

This year was my first time to use next products and im not exactly sure I will use them next year. My house was built this past winter so the lawn is new. Here in Texas the heat really scorches our yards so I'm very careful about applying the products before its gets 85. I have read the pdf and watched your videos carefully but each time I spray green effect and micro green (not together) my yard burns. I'm using the minimum amount required and watering it 24hrs later. In about 3 days you can see the green color get darker and then it just stalls and gets brown. I'm also using the biostimulant package as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Micro Greene doesn't give you green up like green effect? Should I use green effect vs micro greene?

7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect has more iron in it which will give you a nice green up and allow for the turf to hang on to it for a longer period of time. 0-0-2 MicroGreene has more micronutrients in it which will help give your turf what it is missing to help balance things out. - Castleberry

There are no fert bans where I live and I’m up north with cool season grass. I have 18-0-1, Microgreene, and Green effect. How should I use these in the hot summer month, August? I’m also using RGS, Air8, Humic12 and DThatch.

I am assuming you cannot apply Nitrogen or Phos? You can run higher rates of MicroGreene and D-Thatch, and spoon feed the lawn with RGS, Air8 and Humic12. Apply at 12-16 ounces of MicroGreene per 1,000 sq. ft. every 4-8 weeks during blackout period. Hope that helps. - Castleberry

I used the max rate of 9 oz per 1,000 square feet. I break my lawn up into three sections for my Bermuda. Two of the sections are 6k square feet and the other is 3.5 sq. ft. For the 6k sq. ft. section, I fill the sprayer half way with water, put in 54 oz of concentrate, then top it off with another 6 gallons of water. Plenty of water to product to get it on the turf. Are you sure you can't mix 7-0-0 with other products as long as its in water? I've sprayed hundreds of gallons of micro greene plus 7-0-0 no issues as long as I have mixed into water. Now mixing the concentrates will screw you up.

I've also mixed it with MicroGreene with no issues. As long as you have water in the tank to start you should be fine.

Correct! Mixing concentrates together will for sure screw you up. I have not mixed 0-0-2 and 7-0-0 together, only because I am OCD like that. I like making separate apps for whatever reason. But, lots of folks have mixed 0-0-2 and 7-0-0 together and sprayed it out no issue. I would just recommend folks clean their tanks after before making any more apps. The fertility products and soil stimulant products don't play well together in concentrate. Thanks for watching/commenting. - Castleberry

Fertility products (0-0-2 MicroGreene, 4-0-2 FloraGreene, 7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect, 9-0-1 GreeneStart, 18-0-1 GreenePunch, ) should not be mixed with Soil Stimulant products (RGS, Air8, Humic12, D-Thatch). Great question. Thanks for asking and watching. - Castleberry

If you have water in the tank first, it's ok. You just don't want to mix concentrates together. Never a good idea to do fertility products with the soil stimulant products in concentrate. - Castleberry

Wondering the same thing.. I just mixed 007 and 002 at a high rate about a week ago.. wonder if that’s why my Bermuda seems to be a blue color 🤷🏼‍♂️

I do like the N-Ext stuff but am really getting tired of the inconsistent messages all the RU-vidrs have regarding this stuff. Last year Allyn said they all play nice together. This year we can't mix some. App rates all over the board between all these guys. I don't get it.

Robert Sanden Allyn admitted he was wrong. Fert products from N-Ext don’t play well with Soil Stimulants unless they’re mixed in with lots of water.

Look at his videos here and watch the one that is 24 min long named “How to mix N-ext products together”. They do a test in the lab and what happens when certain products are mixed together. I will say that for the biostimulant pack that it’s worked very well for me mixing 3oz per 1000 of each product. In 2 separate sprays I mix RGS & Air8 together and Humic & 0-0-2 together in a backpack sprayer with no problems. We’ll see what happens soon I guess by my mixing 7-0-0 and 0-0-2 together last week. Right now it’s fine, but damn it’s dark like fescue (common Bermuda reel mowed at 1/2”).

A while back they mixed different N-EXT products and the ones with nitrogen tended to clump and create potential clogging issues.

Starting my N-ext journey ....this Friday (5-1-20). I applied a good does of Humic12 last Friday with prodiamine. I pickEd 5-1-20 to start my BioStem pack for ease of monthly scheduling. My question is, I am also going to put down some 18-0-1 also with the first round of the BioStem..... would June be to soon to switch to the 0-0-7 on the same day I do my June BioStem app? I’m thinking June/July/Aug and maybe Sept for the 0-0-7 the late Sept -early OCT a second does of 18-0-1. I’ll also be hitting the lawn (Bermuda) with D-Thatch in J/J/A and maybe some extra Humic12. Im about 1.5 hr East of Greensboro just north of Augusta so I’ve got clay/sand soil I’m trying to get squared away. Open to suggestions ... thanks

For every 8 oz of product you put 56 oz of water in your container which is a 7:1.

Sorry I am just now getting back to you on this. I see some others have jumped in and commenting on this. For every ounce of product, you need 7 ounces of water at a minimum. So, if you are doing 8 ounces, you need 56 ounces, or about a half gallon of water. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know if you have any more questions. - Castleberry

7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect works great as a foliar app. What I like to do is time the application 24 hours before a rain event. That way it gets into the leaf tissue and the rain lights it up even better. - Castleberry

I am assuming you had some issues? The fertility products and soil stimulant products dont play well together in concentrate. You will have clogging issues for sure. - Castleberry
