A huge tip I can add is to emulsify the neem in a smaller container with just the soap and a little water. It makes a huge difference in the mixing and applying it with a sprayer. Does a great job of keeping the neem from sticking to the side of the sprayer.

You might wonder but we people from India have been using Neem since ages. Soaps, face wash, shampoo, toothpaste, you name it. Neem is antibacterial, antimalarial and antifungal. Another plant that every Hindu household has is "Basil". Basil is anti microbial too. Basil is also used in almost all body products. We have a saying "If you keep eating neem it will turn sweeter". Which means if you concentrate on a same task everyday it will bring fruitful results. Also, people use small neem branches as toothbrush

All the doctors in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada, are going to Chinese doctors, I would like a doctor from the east to be honest. You know the medical system has broken down when all the doctors in the capital of New Brunswick are going to a Chinese doctor. There's something seriously wrong with our medical profession and imagine Canada pays for it all, but is not technically doctor recommended!

Very informative thank you! Just as an FYI so you don't kill any beneficial insects like bees, butterflies, ladybugs etc - spray the neem oil solution at sunrise or sunset, when those bugs are less active. Otherwise you might hurt the good bugs that are not hurting your plants at all.

If you can't afford Neem oil (which is expensive), try using 3x tsp of baking soda (bicarb of soda), 1 tsp of vegetable oil, 2x tsp very mild handwash (baby soap for e.g.) 500mil of warm water (1tr for weaker solution). This is a powerful fungicide ( powdery milde and insecticide ). I have been using this mix for well over 50 years and if applied correctly works well. Just make sure to spray under leaf too. 👌

Thanks for the information. I used neem oil this summer - on cucumber and squash/pumpkin plants (got information from various RU-vid videos - that was not as concise and rational as what you brought forward) - and it didn't do what I wanted and seemed to harm the plants as much as help. I now realize my formula was too strong and I was using it too often. I look forward to better results next summer. I appreciate your measured and flexible outlook on gardening.

I think if people do have concerns about neem affecting larval forms of beneficials or important pollinators, if they have the space they could designate like a small plot that's fully planted for pollinators and beneficials and designate that for zero spray. And manually move any larva on their spray plants over to their no-spray area.

For some reason though, I was also under the impression that you could use a neem oil / soap / water solution (in more or less the same quantities you’ve listed) as a soil drench if you had certain nasties such as fungus gnat larvae. I wouldn’t use it this way in the garden though because of its widespread effect, but just on indoor houseplants that are in pots.

Your recipe for neem should include drops of clover and rosemary essential oils. The smell of them detracts pests too. The spray should be applied in early am hours on veggie garden issues so that the stickiness of neem does not cook leaves as it’s absorbed. And doing so in morning means your not spraying bees, lacewings, butterflies, ladybugs, etc. if you have serious issues, then only every couple days until controlled then back to every couple weeks for preventative. Too much will kill plants because it clogs pores of leaves that allow them to breathe.

I been using Need granules as a soil treatment for root veggies for years. I never knew if helped with powdery mildrew... my pumpkins got beaten up by that last year. Cheers

I ordered neem oil yesterday, but today I went into the garden and the combo of me "drowning" the pests last night and the day being 114 degrees today seems to have done the trick 💚 Now I'll neem oil just in case!

Some of my English ivy's leaves have sticky stuff on them and I see these tiny brown (aphids?) on them. I was already headed to my local nursery to buy neem oil, and your video added some great tips regarding what to look for on the label. Thanks!

It's hard to apply too much. It's very forgiving. But don't apply in the sun or when there will soon be sun.

Hello, it often happens to burn your plants with neem oil, this has happened to me several times, and the heat of the sun is not the problem. Neem oil mixes very badly with soap and water (even with frequent shaking), and when sprayed, some plants receive a much too high concentration, while other plants get very little. Be very careful never to spray your plants when they are in bloom. Not knowing it at first, I burned a lot of strawberry blossom.

The soap is an emulsifier that enables the oil to lightly bond and mix with water.

Hi, Kevin! I absolutely LOVE your channel, and have found so many incredibly useful tips for several years now. I recently bought- and am loving- your Field Guide to Urban Gardening. Within minutes of opening the book, I found info which allowed me to identify and start to handle the fungus gnats which have been attacking some of my indoor plants. Have been attempting to over-winter some impatiens plants (here in New England), and the gnats evidently came in with either the plants or the potting soil. Neem oil solution sprayed on the plants intermittently, plus a bit of H2O2 applied to the soil has been helping. I am looking forward to applying more of your invaluable tips to my upcoming gardening ventures!!! I have a small suburban yard (1/10 acre) and am looking forward to maximizing my gardens' health, productivity and beauty with your continuing inspirational- albeit virtual- help. Thank you so very much!!! 🌻🐞🌱🐝🌻

Spray water on/under the leaves early in the day first before resorting to other remedies. This is usually sufficient to control pests.
