Let me know how you get on with using your DSLR as a webcam! - Also apologies that the audio is a little rough; I had major sound problems that day - all my videos have English Closed Captions feel free to turn them on and enjoy! 😊 EDIT: Rikverse posted a comment saying HDMI output on 600D isn't very good and that the USB shown in this video is the best option for those considering using the HDMI port to pull video.
@@hazy1159 hey, as I mentioned in the video it does limit to 720p so you will have to cheat it to make it 1080p in OBS but it still looks pretty good. 😃
Finally after 3 days of messing around got my canon working as a webcam One question tho what did you do about audio using the av to usb lead means I still have to use laptop audio any advice ??
FYI, the webcam utility does not support 1080p FHD. The resolution the usb with the webcam utility supports is around 500p or something similar. So if you're thinking about streaming/recording on 1080p, you need Elgato Cam Link 4k (this one and no other for 1080p 60fps), a HDMI to mini HDMI cable, and install magic lantern on your camera to get clean HDMI.
Great tip! I do mention in the video I think it's not full HD but I was trying to keep costs as low as possible as I'm assuming if your using such a camera your wanting to do things on the cheap.
I tried the HDMI Output VS the Canon USB Software and with the HDMI Output The image quality is far worse with the expensive Elgato Cam Link because the Canon 600D only outputs the screen quality. Even with magic lantern on the image quality is not that good. Use the stock Canon Software and USB Port and be happy with the 720P upscaled to 1080P. It seems there is no better way.
LOVE IT!!!! Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial!! I've been trying to learn how to do this and not even the Geek Squad could explain it as well 🤩
Hello, it does not work. Do you use the USB Cable or the HDMI Out Port? What cable do you use? I try hard to connect my 600D with my Computer but it does not work well
Hullo, Thank you for an informative video - especially the end bit about optimising the photo to screen size. A question: Are you still finding the EOS webcam utility is still working with your Mac? I had it working fine until about May when my laptop OS updated. The EOS webcam utility asked to be an update and hasn't worked since. Would love to know if you've heard of a work around - or an alternative to connecting ones camera that doesn't need the EOS program. I was so elated to have a new use for my old SLR and now it gathers dust again.
@@ImLeeLoi no THANK YOU mate :) ... do you know how to manage to work with 2 canons? I plugged both my 6d and both work but not at the same time, on every stream software I've tried it only appears the name of the canon software to choose as the camera, and only 1, so I cannot figure out how to use multiple canons via this method. I manage to use the main canon software to use live remote shooting and capture what windows on StreamLabs but also only works with one camera, I've also tried with both methods together and didn't work for me :( and still have a third canon camera that I would like to add to the setup if possible, but I think my only option will be the video capture cards, unless if you have another miracle for me... regardless thank you again!!! all the best m8
@@thisoco Oh I don't know about multiple 6D's - I'm afraid you're just going to have to tinker and experiment but my guess is that you will eventually need a capture card!
Please help, I'm using this camera on obs and when I'm just looking at the camera through obs it looks great, but when I record it and watch the recorded file its darker then it should be, even know the camera isnt dark because we just saw it on the view screen. Also I use lighting.
Ok so the issue might be what your recording settings are in OBS if it is not a camera issue. Do some googling and look at what your OBS is saving the files as and if that can cause issues.
Heya, Ive tried to download it multiple times and its still not showing up as an option to use in zoom. I've followed all instructions and its linked to my mac but no luck. any suggestions?
Hey Jessica! Sorry for the late reply. I'd unfortunately ask you to do the mandatory uninstall and re-install and as many said in the comments, fiddle with the different modes on the camera to see if any cause the camera to pop up on Zoom.
Read the comments and try what others suggested. Usually it's about resetting the camera to default setting, restarting computer and checking the USB cable if faulty or too slow.
Hi thanks for the video. A quick question, have you tried this with Big Sur yet, I am trying to link a Cannon m50 to my MacBook Air M1 and I am having no joy. Cheers
FINALY i have been looking for this exact video for a while and thank god you exist. and I have a canon eos 600d and couldn't figure out how to use it as a webcam thanks mate :)
Yoo! Dud thanks for the informational vid I downloaded an Utility EOS program but it was the wrong since it was not for webcam really save me tho Thanks
Help. I have no idea why the feed of the video is lagging. The audio came first when I had a zoom meeting. I am using canon 60D, with direct digital output (dslr) to USB 2.0 (laptop) cable. I am trying to figure out what I shd tweak just to get the audio and video sync. Btw, I could hear and see the zoom participants speaking fine with no lag. It’s just mine has a problem. Tq in advance.
@@ImLeeLoi thanks! I hope someone who has a similar issue, wld have something figured out and let us know. I’ve tried different USB ports on the same laptop. The issue still persists. At this moment, I am trying to acquire a higher spec USB cabling, and another option is HDMI cable for direct HDMI output into the laptop, instead of relying on USB. It cld be that the USB 2.0 just doesn’t suit the resolution well for live streaming, it downgrades the FPS, causing the jitter and latency issue. I’ll see what options give me better result.
Great question. I assume since it's kinda passive in preview mode, like it isn't recording it should be good but honestly I haven't done marathon testing on it.
I don't think you downloaded the package incorrectly. Make sure you choose the Correct operating system and not to download source code - frankly I don't even know which application you are talking about.
I have my Canon EOS Rebel T3i hooked up to my OBS, but i cant get a clean hdmi out, the focus box stays on the screen at all times. Can you help me figure out how to take it off?
Great video and details, can I ask one question? What mac OS are you running? I've got the 600D and I'm running big sur but no matter what options I go through in the camera, reboot, reconnect etc it just gets stuck on the eos webcam utility screen with the cable image. I've tried updating the 600d firmware as well but nothing, resetting camera settings, turning remote control on/off as well as hdmi control on/off. I've even tried using bootcamp and running windows on my mac and had the same problem on windows. Windows makes a noise when I plug the camera in so the cable is working but it does not show up as a device or anything in file explorer. At this point I think I need to buy a new camera :(
Big sur. Like suggested in the other comments I found if you fiddle with what mode the camera is on like change it from video to auto to manual etc that may work for you. It's clearly not your Computer.
@@ImLeeLoi ah dam, I’ve tried switching between every camera mode by literally going between them all back to video mode none of them work even tried turning manual focus off, changing NTFS to PAL, changing resolution, shutter speed settings the lot. I’m tempted to try a different cable maybe as it’s really old. Thanks for the help but feel like mine is a lost cause haha
@@PokeMike Try changing the wire. You never know. I found most found success by restoring to factory settings but I've seen you already done that. Best of luck!
Hey man. Loved your video! Bad news is that as of today (July 2024) 600D is not supported by EOS Webcam Utility. Do you still have the old version that supported it so that you can send it to me? I know this may be like a miracle but need to try. Thanks!!!
You could try the internet archive! I never thought to back this up. I'm very sorry to hear this! EDIT: Like canoncanada.custhelp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1046009/~/eos-webcam-utility-1.3.16-%5Bwindows%5D
@@ImLeeLoi I also tried the canon support but they just provide the last version which is not compatible. I will try to find an old version somewhere. Thanks anyway!!
@@ElNinoAshraf I was lucky enough as using a better USB cable the PC directly detected the camera as a connected device that I was able to use within my app directly
BRO how can I get rid of face detection? I cannot find any solution for my 600D and its really frustrating as I stream, my camera keeps a focus box around my face. could really use your help man
In OBS , obs cannot detect High Resolution Camera Eos (1920 : 1080) , what is the Solution ? Obs only detect 1280 Resolution if we choose custom Resolution
Great question. Once you start recording the focus can't change. For live streaming yeah basically unless you have an operator behind the camera to pull focus your stuck with whatever you set it too.
For folks who are trying to make the EOS 600D work with OBS and seeing black screen, the solution for me was to only have OBS app open vs OBS AND the camera utility.
Fiddle around with the Camera modes. Clash Cam above appears to have had the same issue you did. Try put it in both video mode and manual mode, restart your Computer each time.
Interesting as I have my 650D which I basically don't use anymore which I could potentiall repurpose. In your tests is the framerate a bit low and also is there some lag when using in OBS as 02:53 it seems like the audio isn't in sync.
Yeah. I need to double check whether the frame rate issue is with the Camera or OBS, as for the audio not in sync you can delay sound in OBS; I think it's highest efficacy are video calls where your looking for better than MacBook webcam quality and which are typically not high in FPS.
You are seeing the downsides of the USB connection. For video calls it's perfect, for OBS I think it's fine for like a webcam window if you're playing a game. If you want to record full videos your better off just recording inside the camera and not using it in webcam mode. :)
@@ImLeeLoi actually even usb 2.0 has the potential to carry multiple 1080p 30 fps video streams. Problem is about either the software or hardware limitations for canon 600d.
I'm using this solution for video conferences, but I can't remove the black bars on the sides. Did anyone figure how to fix it in the camera's settings? I can do it in OBS, but most of the conferencing tools don't have a cropping option.
There seems to be compatibility issues on M1 Macs. Otherwise as other comments suggest; double check your USB cable is good quality; reset the camera to factory settings and fiddle with switching the camera modes during use.
@@bjornness2137 Try restarting the Mac. Changing the webcam from FaceTime to EOS Web Utility. If EOS Web Utility isn't even there you didn't install it correctly. Doesn't work with FaceTime on Mac or Safari. Must use Google Chrome.
when i plug in my cam i get black screen on the camera screen and i don't get a video in zoom or obs are there specific options in the cam that i need to change plz help i really whant this to work
Hey Clash, try making sure it's in video mode. If that doesn't work try auto or manual. Fingers crossed some combination of that with restarting your Mac/PC each time you'll find the setting that works for you. Mine used to go black too but then I'd hear a shutter click and I'd see picture both on the camera screen and the computer.
so when i put my camera on the video symbol and than plug it in to my pc i hear a click sound comming from the camera and i get black screen. Can you maybe send some pictures from the setting from your 600d camera so i can set mine the same?
@@clashcam5783 I had mine reset to default when doing this. I'd double check the USB Cable. Also you need to have a webcam program in use. Open up Skype or ZOOM and do a test while using the camera. I think the camera might stay black until the Computer actually wants to use it as a webcam.
@@ImLeeLoi hey thanks for all the help i found a solution, in the windows settings the acces to allow apps to use a camera is by default off. when i switched that on it worked!! But i have one more question, what type of dummy battery do i need for this camera so i can plug it in to a power suplly cus a battery won't work for mor than 8 hours and i cant find the right dummy battery. If you know what type i need that would help allot!
I've watched a few of these types of videos but one thing I'm still unsure of is whether or not I need a battery/dummy battery for the camera to do this. Does the USB/USB-C connection power the camera, or do I still need an external power source?
@@ImLeeLoi Thanks! I've seen at least one B&H article about some Canon cameras that can use USB power, but I haven't had luck finding out which models may actually support that. The search continues!
That should not be present with this software. I’m getting the feeling a lot of people are trying to route the HDMI cable into OBS which I’m not even sure outputs HD over hdmi.
@@soypipe95 No sorry! I'd just keep fiddling around with the camera, perhaps do a factory reset. You shouldn't be seeing the auto focus square with this software unless your trying to output HDMI clean. If that is what you're trying to do all I can imagine is giving Magic Lantern a go and see if clean HDMI is a feature.
Hi, I'm not sure if there is a benefit to using HDMI. I'm aware if you use Magic Lantern you can make HDMI out clean but I'm actually not sure if HDMI outputs at 720p let alone 1080p.
no luck here, obs doesn't see the camera. i have the camera on and on video, I have updated firmware and downloaded eos webcam utility restarted... what am i missing? anyone?
I'd try resetting the camera to it's OG settings. Also switch between video mode and manual and see if it works. Make sure OBS is open and webcam utility is being used while doing so. :)
Oh no! Where are you getting stuck. Are you getting a blue webcam screen that just says EOS Webcam utility? If you don't even get that there's an issue with your install.
@@ImLeeLoi yes I got this message EOS WEBCAM UTILITY, and In my Mac , inside applications, where I install EOS webcam utility folder, I can’t see any app icon. Maybe it’s problem with software installation? In my Mac I am using Big Sur. Any suggestions. And thank you for reply. 🙂
@@ViruYoga Ok so your installation is actually good. The software is having trouble finding the camera. Try using another cable. Make sure the camera is set to video mode and that the camera reacts when you try to use EOS WEbcam utility.
@@ImLeeLoi could I use that as a webcam? I watched your video thinking about the canon rebel t3i, but after I saw the quality from your video I figured I’d ask
@@brockfleming9616 You can with a HDMI connection like an Elgato Cam Link but to use a camera like a7sii with a fancy lens as a webcam seems overkill unless you need this for broadcast or extremely high end work like Movie Junkets (which most still use high end webcams anyway)
@@brockfleming9616 A really great high end webcam I use is the Logitech Brio 4K. If you want a Camera to use as a webcam look at the Sony ZV-1 which can hook in via USB directly to be a webcam.
