And THIS is why we (at least 25K of us and growing 🎉) have our hands in the cookie jar! Lol Love these vids where you not only give your suggestions/commentary, but when you also actually dress your own inspo as well. I totally get supporting brands/designers when their new stuff drops, but ERRRbody starts looking like gingerbread folks. Oof. I like how if you do support, for instance, you may buy on piece of the collection but then you TOTALLY rock your own style with it so that it almost looks like one unique piece that only YOU own! P.S. I love the shrimp and chicken leg purse charms. Too funny. So you! P.P.S. I was never really a knowledgeable sneaker person, but went to early vote today in my khaki Chuck Taylor **70s** that I learned about from you many vids ago! That's how I strolled to the polls, thanks to your inspo! 🍪🍤🍗
Hey cookie family I’m trying on everything similar to what I have and so far I am feeling IT!!!! My favorite, the leather pants Oversize sweater set The long coat with the loafers Over the knee boot outfit The baggy jeans with the sweater I have similar outfits in my closet and I will be dressing it this fall and winter thank you Carolyn. I love you.😊🦋
I love this video. Your interpretation of Pinterest inspo is so refreshing. Every one of these looks looks like you and does not at all look like a cut and paste. Carolyn you are one of the best style icons on these internet streets!
I really love the fact that you are teaching us how to dress and look at fashion instead of just modeling looks. I also the mix of high and low for people who don’t have budget but want the looks. I’m over 65 and feel I can adapt some of looks for my style and age.
Thank you for picking up my intentions!! I want people to feel empowered in their choice and to slow down to really think about what they actually like instead of just accepting what is offered. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you!! I realize I need a button down that is a bit more stiff so I won't run into fidgeting with my clothes as I move around in that look. But it is really fun!
I absolutely adore this topic! Growing up in New York, fashion was more than just an interest-it was a way of life. I was constantly surrounded by style, thanks to my mother and grandmother, both of whom had an innate sense of fashion that they passed down to me. No matter where we went, we were often stopped by people of all backgrounds, admiring our outfits. As a child in Harlem, I absorbed the vibrant street style around me, and I see echoes of my mother’s fashion choices in the looks trending today. However, with the rise of social media, it feels like originality has taken a backseat. Many self-proclaimed fashionistas seem to be recycling ideas from Pinterest and other sources, lacking a true sense of personal style. While style can certainly be learned, it’s an art form that some people are naturally gifted with. For a while, I found myself stepping away from fashion because it felt so inauthentic and homogeneous. But I’ve come to accept that this is the reality we live in now, and I’ve rediscovered my love for fashion-on my own terms. That’s why I truly enjoy your channel and Chee’s as well; both of you bring genuine style and flair to the table. It’s one thing to dress well when you have the budget for high-end pieces-anyone can do that. But you both embody true style and creativity, which I genuinely appreciate. Yes, we all draw inspiration from others, and one of my favorite aspects of living in NYC is the opportunity to people-watch and soak in the diverse fashions. However, it’s essential to maintain originality. I feel the same way about influencers who have undergone procedures like BBLs and then offer fitness advice-it just doesn’t resonate as authentic, that’s not righhht. By the way, could you share where you found your denim jacket? I’m on the hunt for one! I recently purchased the Balenciaga Hourglass denim jacket from FWRD at a fantastic 75% discount (that was my main reason for purchasing it since it was a good deal). However, when it arrived, I was disappointed to find that the material was paper-thin and the cut didn’t deliver the hourglass silhouette I expected. I returned it quick fast and in a hurry!
first off.... You are wonderful writer, is that your profession?? Secondly thank you for the compliment, I shared it with Chee and she also loved your kind words to us. I know there is a lost art of being unique these days because of the internet and people wanting to box us in, but it is the nostalgia of New York or past years that always ground me when Im overwhelmed by everything going on. I love that you grew up in a family that innately understood the form of Fashion... Harlem has always been the Mecca for that uniqueness in our people so there is no surprise that is where you are from. Thank you for writing to me, I truly appreciate that and if you do not write as a profession you consider it! Very inspiring and beautiful. As for denim jackets, the one Im wearing in the video is an old style from Asos, I linked one from Gap in the shopmy link I shared in the description but Jacquemus also made a cropped denim jacket that cinched at the waist and its currently on sale. go.shopmy.us/p-8917541 check it out when you have a moment
@@ITSCAROLYNGRAY Thank you so much for your kind words! Fashion and writing have always been my true passions. Growing up, I loved creating short stories, poems, and movie ideas, even though I never pursued writing professionally. Unfortunately, over the years, I drifted away from it. But over the past year, I’ve been working diligently to reconnect with my love for writing. As I approach 41 -young, I just want to focus on what feels good to my soul. While I feel blessed with where I am in life, I want to ensure I'm truly living out my passions. So, hearing your encouraging words means a lot to me and is genuinely appreciated! I’m glad you shared that with her; she’s so dope, you both are! I also think you and Chee would make an amazing RU-vid show duo, sharing your insights on fashion and bringing that classic New York flavor! Just imagine a segment where you showcase some of your past looks and discuss how you might reinvent them today. Plus, inviting people off the street (of course, using your judgment ) to share their fashion choices and stories would bring such authentic energy. I’m really craving that realness and am tired of the false pretense! Thank you again for the jacket recommendations!
This is great education! It’s the inspiration and you don’t have to buy the exact thing a lot of things I already have in my closet. Especially the leopard and burgundy I already have pieces and I look like myself but still up to date. Great job!
This was the most useful fashion video in a long time. It is an exercise I try to do, but trust! after work I am going to do some try-ons! Thank you!!!!
Thank you for saying it! Just going out and buying everything all the other influencers , top models, everyone you like on the streets wearing….does not mean you yourself have any style! It’s sad to see all the copying, exact bags, jackets, shoes….i just can’t!
Congratulations on 25k!!!! 🎉🥂 Great video! I love your thought process when it comes to inspo. Great reminder to be mindful of tapping into our own personal style and to stay true to it.
Love this topic! I see so many people wearing the same things the exact way instead of personalizing it and establishing their personal style. I loved scrap booking fashion magazines and would be very clear about what I liked about the outfit or item whether it was color, cut, or vibe. I had a book that I would collect magazine cut outs and later manifest the look. So many of these looks are timeless and I’m still collecting.
Loved every minute of this video! I appreciate that you showed your process and how it comes to fruition. I was watching this video while getting ready to go to a farmer's market. You inspired me to wear my sequin skirt instead of my usual jeans. THEN my 6 y/o decided to wear her sequin shirt and styled it so uniquely. Thanks for the reminder to wear my 'special' items!
Love this type of content. I genuinely enjoy all of your content but, this one was so helpful and gave me a new perspective on how to look at images and incorporating your style and approach to the image. Being inspired and not actually copying! This resonated!
I love and appreciate this video. You clearly were in depth and thoughtful in making this video and your explanation. It makes perfect sense. I often time would fall victim to doing copy & paste and this video was VERY helpful and insightful. Thank you darling.
I haven’t even watched yet and I love your hair 😊❤ so cute without even trying ❤ I think that the copy and paste thing came when everyone started getting tattoos, BBL’s and lashes… and Chile how can I forget the main thing… each of your inspired looks are🔥🔥🔥 and the bag in the background on your red cabinet ❤🔥
Loved this video C! Seeing looks we gravitate towards and how to apply it using what we have in our closets!! And those straight leather pants! Love!! 👌🏽👌🏽🥰
I loved this style of video! It was very helpful. I want to love button downs so badly, but because I am top heavy they give frumpy! I live in the DMV and everything you say "with" I smile because of your accent 😊.
This definitely helped! I have some similar looks saved, and I'm a plus sized girlie, so I have to figure out how to adjust the looks for my specific body type. I am going to go back and reorganize my boards on Pinterest. I just have everything under "fashion inspo". You have really helped me! My favorite look was the jeans and the snake print bootie.
These are the kind of YT GEMS I love and re watch over and over again. This is personal style and how to cultivate it! We are not worthy, thank you for taking the time and effort to do this❤
Congratulations Queen Cookie on 25k!😘😘❤️. Thank you for helping me think through my Pinterest saves. Loved all of the inspired fits❤️❤️❤️.Much continued blessings.😘
Girllll, I immediately opened up Pinterest to organize my saves. Thank you for touching on this!! My fave outfit was the sweater, w/ the button down & skinny jeans 🔥🔥🔥
I loved this, it opened my eyes and mind to try using my images to make most of what I use as inspiration, you really are helping me with trying to find my personal style.
I loved this Carolyn! I look and add to my Pinterest Board on a daily basis (usually things I wish I had money to buy) I understand why I like things and it helped me to see that I have a image of myself that I don't present when I dress up often but it also shows my intense love of color. I am wearing green and purple today just because! I hope you will do more of these it was fun! I loved those Puma sneakers!
I really appreciate this video. I’m on the budget end of shopping and I always reference my Pinterest boards. I also have them set up for the year and the seasons (I’ve already started pinning for 2025) my intention going forward is to shop more intentionally and buy quality pieces that will last me awhile. I also want to shop more with boutiques so I can find unique pieces. I don’t have a style yet but my intention is to figure it out. I really appreciate your perspective so much. Thank you for your knowledge!
Now this is what I love to see. Brilliant content and inspiring. Going to my closet and getting ideas.. if I could give you 100 thumbs up I would. More please❤❤
I really like this video, It’s going to be very useful for me and others going forward On how to interpret outfits, to things that are in my closet. Totally grateful if you could continue this theme in your content. Still transitioning to my Fall stuff. Favs look is fringe jacket (thrifted tan one and a black one) with denim but will be doing my cowboy boots and trench coat worn with fringe pants. Great way of mindset styling some evening wear as every day wear so not saving for special occasions.
An amazing video! I love hearing and seeing your thought process on taking inspiration from others and the way you use Pinterest to help you create and organize those ideas! I would love to see more of these type videos! Plus it was fun to see u play dress up 😂. congratulations on 25k subscribers 🎉🎉 TFS❤
Giiirrrllllll ❣️❣️❣️you are hilarious !!!!! Thank you for being so real and true to the subject.. and you are authentically natural ( not full of makeup .. and I am not watching you play with your hair while you talk ) 🤭😀😆😂
Love your laid back vibe. That’s me too. This is my first view of your channel and I really enjoyed it. I loved your outfit interpretation with the fringe jacket. Always wanted to put something like this together and pairing it with the baggy, low crotch ( also my vibe), gave me inspo so,thanks! Congrats on the 25 K!! You’ve made a new subscriber ❤
Great vid Carolyn. One of the few practical and relatable style videos out there. You should make this a series and give it a catchy name. Really enjoying your content.👍🏾
I loved this video and your take on using the photo for inspiration. Especially enjoyed how you used your existing clothing to recreate the photo with your own style. It was perfect!🩵
This is such a cool video. I think for me, I actually pull more inspiration from women who happen to dress more masculine. Men’s clothing is so limited sometimes so it’s fun to see how women would flip something more traditionally masculine. It’s why I started following you. I screen shot a lot of stuff and reference it later. What’s so cool from pulling inspo from the opposite gender is more than likely, I can’t pull a one for one copy. I’m 6’2, 250 lbs after all 😂 but I’m always inspired.
I loved them all, but my favorite was the leather pants with the oversized sweater! You inspired me to try it with my pair of dark wide leg cargo jeans. Can you show different ways you would style the black Stuart Weitzman boots? Thank you for sharing. ❤
Loved this video and simply just the way you communicate sis. My favorite outfit was the fringed jacket and that POP of red❣️ 2nd fave look was the thigh high boots, button down and blazer...especially when you tucked the front of the shirt in🤌🏾
10/10 your fits were better. I’m obsessed at 34:36 the blazer, blue shirt with thigh boots. Not kitty cat boots 😂😂😂😂 My favorite was the last look. Congratulations on 25k.
