Me too! I normally watch short videos as I’m not a fan of waffle… but this was absolutely worth the time. the Result is stunning and the explanation of each step was excellent. Thank you so much again
A far easier way to decoupage, is to paint on your glue and wait for it to dry. When it's completely dry, place your decoupage paper over the top, then place parchment paper on top. Use a small crafting iron or travel iron to iron the decoupage paper in place. A low heat setting will activate the glue and the paper will stick with no wrinkles and no bubbles. This eliminates the need for all this rubbing. Use a craft knife, not a palette knife to separate edges. Also, always iron creases out of the decoupage paper first. Try it!
Yeah I’ve tried it that way I’ve got a tutorial over on my Facebook page and it works beautifully just a little bit fiddly open over all of the rebates/panels in the cupboard doors but it’s a great shout and a great comment😊❤️🙏
When you were adding the dark wax to the left side door and the right unwaxed side was in the shot, it showed what an amazing effect it creates. This is gorgeous
You are a great teacher and explaining yourself. You are also a talented and very gifted artisan. Thank you for posting so that we may learn, watch, and enjoy. Happy Fipping
Beautiful and now I can just give in to my urge to buy those beautiful napkins in gift shops etc. and not even have to pretend I'm getting them for a present for someone else. Wonderful lessons, Jonathan, and such a lovely piece.
First time here, loved your artwork, you’ve created a masterpiece from an outdated piece of furniture. What impresses me the most was how kind and patient you are with your instructions and I really thank you for that. Seems as though no one has kindness in them anymore. ❤❤❤
Oh my goodness your message means the world to me thank you so very much and I’m super happy that you enjoyed watching this particular tutorial wishing you all the very best for your project happy painting 🙏❤️😊
When I was a kid we called the darker edging “antique-ing.” I have never seen a more beautiful piece of furniture in all my life. Scrolling through everyone’s thumbnails - this took my breath away. This is the project I want to do. Thank you.
A great tutorial. Learnt so much. Never having done this before I’m going to start small on a craft box or two to perfect the technique and then move on to my furniture I’ve been wanting to do. Thank you for so clearly explaining every step, not just how to do it, but why you’re doing it. That’s the indicator of a great teacher.
Instead of tearing the napkins, you can use a paintbrush dipped in water..the paper will tear so much easier..beautiful piece of furniture..thanks for sharing!
I am blown away by this piece! It turned out beautifully- the dark wax really does make it all pop doesn’t it?!!! Now I must find a dresser to make over!

I have 2 very dear family pieces that need so much love. Have been considering decoupage for them. When you started with pink I thought “Oh no. I am NOT a pink person”. How wrong I was! So glad I kept watching! What a sweet whimsical piece! Thank you for this 💕
I'm with you. My colors are purple 💜/ violets, and green s, and cranberry) Burgundy and spring/ olive Greens. However a chest with strong violets would be hideous with my colors scheme. Light lavender darkened around the edges might look really good!!
I've subscribed because I just love learning and youve just completed a whole art class for me and finishing a stunning piece. I love that you explain everything so thoroughly. 🥰
I loved watching your tutorial. I've learned so much from watching you create magic. I have used paper serviettes to decorate an old piece. It was a success in spite of the fact that it was something I had never done before. I'm ready to tackle another one soon. You have shown me the easy way of doing it especially the speckling to fill empty spaces. Thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed this presentation; I love how your sheer love of being creative shines through as you both talk, guide and show us how to techniques. Excellent. Ann x
I have a piece of hand painted furniture and I always get compliments. I appreciate the effort that you’ve given to make this happen, but I also have a real appreciation for natural wood. I am a tree hugger, so I would choose to paint a piece a boring piece or a preprinted piece of furniture, giving it a whole new dimension.
You are such an incredible artist. You had me at the first few steps after the decoupage and then you went to incredibly beautiful from there. Absolutely love this piece!
First time I have watched your channel and NOW I AM FOREVER A MEMBER! I LOVE YOUR ART PAINT DECOUPAGE DESIGNS SO BEAUTIFULLY DONE! Thank you for sharing this as I will try real soon ... I am saving this for maybe ... alittle tiny shh shh cheat sheet! Shhh 🤫🤭
Love love love love love!!! The step by step, easy to follow instructions. So refreshing to listen to an English accent instead of a droney, nasal American twang! And your phrases: a tickle here, a tickle there. Just loved it. And the result is breathtaking. Completely inspired, thank you 😊
Wow, I'm in love with how you added all the colors to create the soft watercolor effect. This is exactly what I needed to see as my next project is a rice paper decoupage. All the napkins that I have don't open to one napkin but 4 individual repeated pattern. Thank you for this amazing tutorial
It’s just stunning!! Wow! I’ve never seen the technique of putting the paints on and letting the colors run. When you were doing that I was cringing. I was so confused and worried, but you had it all along. Absolutely gorgeous!! ❤️❤️❤️
@@servraghgiorsal7382 Me too!! Cringing like crazy! And other things I can’t even put a words. It was so pretty and now he’s melting the flowers?! I’ll have to trust y’all that this is going to work out well in the end. All I see now is a big drippy mess!”
@@servraghgiorsal7382 I took painting in High School which is about the limit to my exposure to art. But I gotta say, I don’t get it. All these folks raving about fly speckled, melted flowers? I’ve watched numerous videos of folks trying to rehabilitate furniture from the destruction of wood worms. I lived on a farm and know firsthand that “fly specks” are not wistful and like that nasty bug, would have zero place on anything I’d put my name on. It’s fly sh!t, people! Horrors!! 😮😂
Absolutely beautiful. I’m 74 and decoupaged and antiqued furniture with my mother in the 1960s and 70s I still do a little as my health permits. Thanks for your inspiration.💕
That is absolutely stunning 😍 . I’m still quite new to decoupage so watching tutorials like yours are so helpful .you are so, so talented, I hope one day I might be as good as you are
This is a brilliant and beautiful way to decoupage a piece of furniture. It gives depth and creativity and wrinkles gives texture that naturally ages decoupage. Thank you and I’m definitely going to try these techniques.
My oh my, so stunning effect. You sir are a very gifted artist, just amazing your eye for colour and placement of flowers seem to make this piece flow. Wish i had just a little of your gift but alas i can`t seem to envisage what is needed and where.
Thank you I'm putting together supplies to do my dresser. You make me feel I can do this. Taking the different steps I see will lead to a master peace... I hope..
Jonathan, you're a Genius, because you finished the furniture beautifully, and then added the Beetle! I love your ideas, and I love how you move right along while feeling every single detail of your project. Thank you very much!
Absolutely gorgeous this is SO ME flowers bugs nature can’t get enough of it and love bringing it inside …. Thanks so much for sharing this lovely piece so delicate so feminine … got my creative juices flowing🪲
Beautiful work Jonathon. Loved watching you at your craft. I have restored old furniture but never decoupage so am going to give it a try. You’ve inspired me.
I am glad I watched this very informative video. I will use napkins on some other projects so I don’t ruin my new ones. Great practice. Thank you, Val and love this piece a great job done again
I have spent week and weeks looking for a tutorial that was through, easy to understand, and fun to watch. I am now convinced that I can have a go without it being overwhelming and too technical. . Massive thank you - you are a great teacher:)
Absolutely gorgeous, wonderful, tutorial ,,, My mother used to take a pause on eggs... I dappled with it a little bit... But now I would like to try the Napkin technique,,, Thank you for sharing
Whatever technique is used or brand of paint or paint brushes or whatever, Jonathan, your work is super beautiful! Its easy to see that you are a truly gifted artist! Thank you sir for sharing and teaching...
This was very interesting and pleasant to watch. I particularly like the age look that you gave the peace. The decoupage is outstanding. I fully intend to attempt this project in my own home. I'd like to decoupage a mirror to match. Very nice thank you
Thank you so much for taking the time to message really means the world to me i’m so pleased that you’re gonna take something away from this tutorial happy creating please let me know how you get on 😊❤️🙏
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I have done some decoupage but never came out looking like a real art piece. I cannot wait to try this method.
Thank you, Jonathan. I’m trying to learn all of the techniques before attempting my first piece. This is so helpful and detailed! I can’t wait to get started! Gorgeous!
Thank you for watching and I’m wishing you all the best for your future projects most of all I just want to say just enjoy the process you will always learn from any mistakes and turn them into happy accidents 😊
You are a total clever clogs. You inspire me and that you have my heartfelt gratitude. I always place the hardware in plastic lunch boxes. I have just completed an armoire with vintage sheet music. It looks fabulous. Australia
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove I concur with your sentiment 100% ♡ You are so talented and I now stop when roadside rubbish happens to take unloved furniture and rebirth these beautiful pieces after restoring them for another Life. The universe rewards the Brave and you are Brave. Australia 🌼🌻🌺🌼🌻🌺
What an absolutely luscious piece! The spritzed paint adds such a loose, painterly look. You've inspired me to just relax and have fun trying my hand at decoupage. Thank you! ❤
This was a fabulous project to watch and done to perfection as always! I love the paper napkins used for the project and the blending technique. I have been keeping an eye open for nice design napkins, but am still looking. They do make such a wonderful decoupage and your creative design layout is all the more intriguing by how you compose a lovely composition. Thank you and you are a huge inspiration for my aspirations.
Absolutely beautiful! I decoupage candles and working on a small garbage bin for one of my bathrooms but have never done anything big. I really should give it a go. 🙂
I use eye shadow a lot in painting. Also fingernail polish does well. And when I paint people, like in ceramics, I use lipstick for blush in their cheeks. I use whatever I can find to create different effects. This piece is so beautiful! I would never have thought of using paper napkins on furniture, but I'm thinking of it now! I have used napkins to cover white tiles to make coasters, but I'm liking the thought of using them for furniture! Great video! Thanks!
Wow! Absolutely stunning. Looks like a beautiful watercolor. Truely amazing and you make it look so easy! Another piece of your furniture that I'm in love with 💕
I love how you said you find tearing the napkins therapeutic. I sit for hours peeling off the layers watching a movie or something. 💯 agree with you it is very therapeutic! Love your videos and patience
First time here, subbed, you had me at "spritz"....I oil paint on canvas, And chalk (homemade)paint furniture with a water spritz....NOW I will incorporate decoupage...Thank You❣❣
I subscribed immediately..your techniques, the order of your techniques, the reasons for each, made this vintage faded floral technique a keeper! What a magnificent transformation!
It's lovely to follow you on your trips. I am too old now for wild camping and long treks, so lovely to see them through your eyes. It reminds me of when I was able to do it too! xx from rural north east England
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove Er.... this was a comment on another video in my watch list about wild camping LOL! I added this video to watch later. RU-vid glitch! Not sure what happened there. Whoops! You must have wondered what I was talking about! Your video looks really interesting - will be watching it soon
I have been refinishing furniture for ages but never tried napkins before, I learned SO MANY techniques in this video, I can't believe it. Thank you so very much for sharing this!! take care, keep having fun with new techniques, and stay Safe !

Wow! You are an artist & an excellent teacher, for me as a noob to this whole scene there was a lot of ‘trust the process’ whilst you were spritzing but I was excited to see the end result & it didn’t disappoint. Thank you for sharing all the little tips & tricks 😊
I love, Love, LOVED this tutorial so much! You blew my mind with your many helpful techniques. I will never look at paper napkins the same again. Thank you so, so much for teaching us!!
Oh wow! You make me believe that I could do this! Wonderful. Really enjoy your style of video making and teaching as well. I am 3/4 way through...saving the big end and SWEET reveal for after dinner dessert :D
This is a wonderful tutorial. I’ve been a painter for years and I’m new to decoupage. I never realized I could incorporate painting into decoupage. You have shown me clearly how to do this and I’ll be trying it soon. Thanks❣️ BTW who does your camera work? Makes me feel like I’m in the room.
These last few tutorials I had a professional team that came in which I asked for that kind of look two cameras close-ups and wide shots I think they did a great job unfortunately I’m on my oh now with the camera work so I apologise for future editing might not be as good ❤️😊🙏
Wow, this is stunningly beautiful! How inspiring! I loved the way you slowly showed the details of the finished product up close and all over at the end of your video! Thank you for doing that, it was very considerate of you. I am so inspired I have to subscribe! :) Thank you so much for sharing this lovely form of art.
Thanks for this! I appreciate all the tips and ideas, and love the way you show different ways of accomplishing the same thing so you can choose which works best. Turned out beautifully!
It’s a masterpiece that’s all I can really say! I love the tutorial as always because it’s so detailed! P.S.The only “flaw” is the bug it makes me want to swat it! Let me explain I live in Greece (warm climates=roaches)😂😂😂
Ha ha that’s made me smile the book does look kind of real almost three-dimensional but mostly I want to say thank you for your lovely message and welcome to my channel happy creating in my most favourite place of the world Greece 😊😊❤️
I’m blown away. Your art class has taught me so much, more then any crafter has. I’m going to start with my makeup table. I’ll try not to panic when I’ve made a mistake. Thank you, thank you.
