Tom, a big thanks for sharing this info. The same process works for TrueNAS. I watched this the other day and when my TrueNAS Core went down after an upgrade from U12 to U13 it was easy to use the same menu system to revert to the older version and recover my file-server. I'll now concur that is is a great feature of both products. This video may kill two birds with one stone as they say. Thanks again for sharing, I'm so glad that I watched this episode !

I did not know you could get a pfSense Plus license for home use. So yesterday, I made a backup of my system config and first did a re-install to move to ZFS. I added the backup to the pendrive to restore the config after the re-install, but to my surprise, it must have found it ny itself and applied it during the re-install. Getting the packages back in too about an hour. I then migrated my CE version to Plus 😊 It helps a lot to be able to test things at home first!

Tom, please disable the camera's AF and set up the shot manually. It is constantly moving in and out of focus between the foreground/background which is quite disorientating. Cheers

Hi Tom. I bought the NG 2100. Now, pfsense is a Plus version (before I had the Community Version) and I don't get it, how to configure the Switches/Ports/VLAN. Before I just had the igbX, now it's totally different. §8-) If you could explain how to create different LAN's (LAN/DMZ/XYZ), that would be great. In essence, I don't want to use VLAN's, just the Ports on the NG2100, so nothing fancy. TNX and have a happy weekend.

can you get the advantages of zfs boot environments with a single disk? would love to see instructions to make in the installer and what choices to make in that case. I haven't understood the negate documentation about the installation process, because the zfs instructions go straight into talking about raid choices and multiple drives. I can't even find an installer for the plus version. I am currently running 22.05 release, but had to upgrade to plus from community version on my Protectli Vault FW2B.

You get snapshots and better file system resiliency with single drive and there is not an installer for plus, you start with CE and register for plus.

All the OSes that support ZFS at install have spoiled me. But we're a windows shop mostly and I'm already annoyed that with Windows I can't at point of install (yes sometimes you have physical boxes still) have it run on a software mirror like ZFS.

Boot Environments can be done by hand (command line) but given how simple it is, I expect netgate to include it in the pfsense CE version sooner or later. Or for somebody to come up with a script or simply copy/paste the code from netgate. Open source means that, right?

Just an FYI. You covered the boot to the CLI but talked way too quickly to explain that part. I did get it after going over it a few times, cause I needed a clearer understanding of how boot environments work. First time it seemed you rushed through something. It's not pizza day, or is it 😂
