Piping is a great option to enhance the look of your bag (hey, or clothing!). In this tutorial, I'll show you how to use piping effectively! While the tutorial is focused on bags, the same tips apply to clothing as well!

Years ago I learned to remove the st itching on the piping. Butt the rope pieces together and trim the rope to butt together. Fold the empty fabric under and stitch next to the rope for a smooth continuous seam and piping. I made a lot of pillows with piping and this looked the best to me.

Same, when I was helping my grandfather with his upholstery projects. But lots of different techniques for pretty much everything too!

I was going to comment with the same process. The way Grandma taught me. God bless her.

As always, excellent content. I especially appreciated the close up and repeat at 11:15.

Thank you for the tiny tutorial. I always walk right by the piping section. Now I know how easy it is to use. Thank you.

I make one end lap or be longer by a half inch, maybe. Rip open or undo the seam of the bias tape. Trim off the actual rope until it butts up to the other end. Open the open seam and fold the end so no raw edge. Then overlap over the other end. You won’t get a dip.

Been trying so hard to make more videos. First the a/c in the room broke (it got fixed!) then we had a death in the family. Just a lot going on :(

Thats handy thanks. I have always avoided piping but may give it a go on a bag I am making soon.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the laugh with putting the wrong side of Fabrics together. I mess up on the basics all the time...especially with zippers!!!

I like it mostly for the clarity! It's a TOUCH far away from the table for my tastes for little details when I need to show you things, but at least I figured it out before posting the video - otherwise I'd have to do a follow-up!

Idk why since it's only tangentially related (cord in the piping), but this makes me curious about how corded fabric would work in bag making 🤔 I like cording on corsets for aesthetics and the additional strength, so now I'm kinda itching to do it on a bag too!

Oh that's from Cosmic Fabric Creations!!! Highly recommend - though I'm a touch biased. I've designed fabrics for her in the past and she has a Sailor Moon round coming that I designed specifically with bags in mind!

Can you make a piping video on the best way to go around curves? Missed your face. Have fun in your trip!
@fiercekittenz
@fiercekittenz 3 года назад
I could, but the trick is the same - basically the tape that wraps the rope to make the piping is on the bias, so it stretches. It's just a matter of slightly stretching it around curves so it lays flat.
