Thanks Bino, this series is great. The "whole teaching an actual person" thing really sets it apart from all of the other "how to do it" series. We get to see what's hard and how technique develops. Thanks Noah for being such a great sport, this wouldn't be as good without you.
another night learning new tricks. had to run back into house today as I'd watched your vid, gone to tie the hitch and managed to muck it up. rewatched and now am a blake hitch user. at least for a few days of practice.
Very cool to watch. I’ve been climbing for quite a while and while I’ve used a zigzag and other systems I’ve always went back to a double over and under taught-line hitch. Makes me feel of a different era but it’s what I started on and love. Less is more. Although I do love the line tending ability of a zigzag. It’s not relevant to me on most removals.
Thanks Bino and Noah! Tending slack towards my torso usually feels easier than pushing it away (maybe I have too much beach bicep?) I'm thrilled there is a no-tech method via the sliding bowline knot. I'm digging this idea for adaptation to longer ascents and for faster hand-over-hand tending for the return trip on awkward limb walks.
Does anyone have any ideas or tips on making the pulley with accessory chord run smoother? I was having the same sticky problem the last time where the pulley wouldn’t pull the blakes hitch up whereas the first time I used it it worked fine.
With that rough bark... it had too much friction when he was trying to go up. The rope wasn't sliding over the crotch. Needed a friction saver and he would have had a lot less trouble. :)
Your lighting is ruining Your video everything is shadowed. It looks like a silhouette. I can tell you are doing a good video but it is almost useless because a person can't see clearly. I think if were standing on the other side with the camera it would have worked out better. You need the sunlight on the back side of the camera person to make things more visible. Because this video is terrible. All your good information is so hard to see.
