Thanks Bino! You make this look easy, I need to work on transitioning from my climbing line to lanyard and back again. I always seem to get a little nervous getting off my main tie in point.
Ive taken to using 2 half hitches to tie my terminal end because its so much quicker when coming out of the tree from a high tie end point to untie (so my clip doesnt get stuck when i pull the rope out).. im usually going up in a few trees per jobsite so it saves some time and mental power.
That's good info. For the past 3 years I've been sending comments to these guys out there that don't use climbing ropes & have a linesman rope with a foothold that they call a climbing stick. It's a big thing out there & I have to call it "a linesman or lanyard" for them to know what I'm referring to. They r wearing a saddle so everything u did here they could do without these sticks which I wouldn't call safe. A linesman is not a life saving device if it has slack in it really isn't safe. Every 🌳 u climb has a different figuration & not having an anchor up 25 to 30 feet up gives u more maneuverability & safety. I use a split-tail but a self tending style. I put a closed looped English prusik on the other side. I always keep a half hitch @ the height on my split-tail so the tail end stops on the prusik there then I complete my self tending hitch with a figure 8. It's the best of both worlds. It's open so I can advance in the 🌳 from one union to another. If I have never climbed the 🌳 b4 then this is your best option. I actually use a hack where I carry about 35' of paracord that I attach to a 12 oz. Petzyl throwbag & do my advancing with this. Some of these 🌳 r not the best when it comes to branches u could throw your line into. These people I'm trying to reach have been taught something from those who know nothing about arborist gear. What's worst is that suspension trauma is a real thing just like drowning in 🥶 water where u have no training on what to do. Many that use these methods don't carry paracord with them that u can leave up in the tree after u rapell on a line which is 9mm or better. They simply pull down there line & leave nothing there to connect to when they want to come back. This year I'm making paracord presets @ this time. I get my throwline up & hook to the tag end of my climbing line when that goes over the union & starts coming down the tag end goes through the large sewn loop. Just above the sewn loop is a clip that I attach paracord to. I can now put my throwline away cuz on the other end of my paracord is the tag end of the climbing line. So when I pull down right above the large eye everything comes down & I have both ends of the paracord that I simply tie around the 🌳 for another climb. This is SRT style which with my CT Roller hand ascender is used with a 8mm eye to eye above my rapell device which gives me redundancy. I find this to be excellent since it is self tending while it makes me feel like I'm pulling 20 feet up the 🌳. I have a long climbing line which is 9.5 mm super static which has a small sewn line on one end ➕️ a large one on the other. So the line is multi-versatile either way. It's amazing how involved this equipment is. As soon as u encounter something different it gives u more options to get a job done right. Have a 👍 week. 😅
