Thank you this will help us immensely this year with no bow thrusters. I remember being pinned against the bank last year but know what to do now.

A midship cleat makes spring line docking very easy on small vessels provided the dock has a cleat in a workable location.

It's a good video but really, if you are going to put the effort into making one about spring lines, you should make the effort to wait until the wind is strong enough to demonstrate what really happens. In these conditions you could push the boat off with your hands. Add 20 knots dead on the beam holding you on, put a boat 2 meters in front and back, make one of them a catamaran with a 30' beam, and it would be more real world.

I have to agree with you 100% about having too much line. One winter my wife and myself went out for the day and stopped for lunch. I have already told her twice the stop using that line that it was entirely too long and she would not listen. As soon as we were finished lunch we made our way back to our boat and as I was ready to pull out I heard her yell something but by the time I heard the words and my hand what onto the throttles it was too late. Let me just say when she does something she does it right. She took out both props sorry there wasn't even a chance of getting back to our home dock on one engine. Fortunately I keep scuba gear and one of the crew cabins since I do not hire crew. The unfortunate thing the water temperature was 40 degrees and all I had was my heavy wetsuit. Let's just say a half an hour later I was finally done and we ended up having to go back and to the restaurant so I could drink some hot coffee and by that time it was already dinner. So the Lesson learned if you have long lines on your boat anywhere hide them. Also if you own a drysuit and you are planning to take your boat out in the winter make sure your dry suit is on your boat or buy a second one to keep on there permanently. That's a decent description but you need to say whether you're in forward or reverse just to say it... and talk about which way you're steering.
