Makeup Artist and Educator Terri Tomlinson explains what The Flesh Tone Color Wheel does and how to use it. Like all color wheels, The Flesh Tone Color Wheel follows the rules of color theory. For color classes visit @
Thank you for the feedback. I am not able to make them deeper without losing the tone in the brown. The ring of shades is meant to be a visual reference for seeing the variation of tones in deep skins. A skin that is deeper than the ring of shades can still be found on the wheel, as we are looking for similarities in undertone.
@@TerriTomlinson I agree with John. Maybe even a note in the video about darker skin tones that aren't on the wheel, what to do etc. if that's you. Thank you for posting this video and listening to feedback.
I love this tool, but I agree with John. I wonder if a future version could have another ring for the deepest skin tones? Truly a great tool. This is just a universal issue that is slowly correcting in makeup.
You know what else would be good. A set of cards that are all those colors that you could hold up easier and then on the back is the corresponding color on the wheel.
@@colorcreatecamera Right. Or even like a light, medium, dark set you can buy. I mean, we all kind of know where we fall on that scale. LOL. I'm like 2nd in usually on foundation brands, meaning I'm going to be light.
@@TerriTomlinson Oh, I'm not a makeup artist. I am a teacher and maybe that's why I liked your presentation. You're a good teacher. LOL. I did buy the wheel though. My friends and I are on body typing and coloring kick. Body typing I get I can see that well. Color, not so much. This tool will help me.
I just discovered you and received my color wheel today! Absolutely fascinating to me as I've always struggled with color! I was draped as a "True Summer" but never really thought I had blue undertones. Surprise I am a light red-orange!! I am delighted and it explains why blue green looks so good on me, also my fav color! I am soooo thankful to have found you!
OMG! I FOLLOW YOU ON TIK TOK NO WAY! you're a queen I'm so happy you make youtube videos I'm so curious what purple undertones would look like and I'm interested in what my undertones is
Totally. Help mix flesh tones faster. Or imagine being a makeup artist. You pull this out, hold it up and can make sure you're really using the proper colors for the client.
On your short video about brown eyeshadows you demonstrate how to find the undertone. Should I be using a brown eyeshadow in a complimentary undertone to my skin which would be opposite on your color wheel? Or should I use a brown eyeshadow with the same undertone as my skin? Would you please explain further how to select the proper colors in terms of eyeshadow and blush and lipstick? Thank you.
To me it is a mix. I like to use colors that compliment my eye color for "pop". And then colors that are either analogous to my eye color or if you want a very natural look, analogous to your skin. Have fun with it and see what you like best.
Wow this is SO helpful! I’ve struggled to determine whether my undertone is “peach” or just yellow. Turns out, I am a yellow-orange undertone which is really just another name for peach! Idk why I never put together that peach actually has yellow in it...but it all makes sense now! Also I struggled to decipher undertone as I go from being tan to pale...because they each look so different. So seeing the yellow-peach shades in their lightest and darkest forms, is a giant help as well.
You can purchase it at most pro makeup stores in the USA and from Makeup101.com. I do ship internationally but do not have a retailer in India yet. For other international retailers please check out thefleshtonecolorwheel.com. Thank you!
I'm so glad it is popping up! I do not have a retailer in Canada at this point however am working on it. You can purchase and ship internationally from Makeup101.com, CameraReadyCosmetics.com and Alconeco.com.
Excuse me, I am new to color theory, but does this mean that the wheel does not include the tones? I think my skin is a bit grayish, so I would need a color wheel with tones also, I believe, otherwise the pure hues available there will not help me with my skin, but maybe I am wrong.
Hello. I'm not sure I understand your question. The entire wheel is made of tones except for the ring of pure hues in the center. No ones skin is gray -we are all brown. You might be seeing cooler tones, but not gray.
So will this help me finally determine my undertone? I'm turning 50 soon and have been skin matched for foundation so many times and have been told something different every single time! And still haven't found one foundation that is perfect. When Make Up Forever just came out with their camera foundation matching tool I thought that I would finally get an answer but they give 3 closest matches and they were light skin with neutral pink undertones, light skin with a hint of peach undertone, and light medium neutral with a golden undetone. How on earth can I have a neutral cool pink/peach/golden undetone? I am more confused than ever! Will your tool be able to help me? I am at my wit's end!
