"No Makeup" Makeup Look For Film = Color Theory + Le Maqpro Palettes - Makeup By Shannon Marie Recap:
Hi, my name is Shannon (Make-up By Shannon Marie) and I'm a licensed esthetician and make-up artist living in LA! Today I wanted to give a lesson on color theory for make-up artists. It's so important to be able to use color theory when you're designing a makeup look on an actor for TV/Film. We're going to be using some of my favorite palettes from le maqpro and Terri Tomlinson's rescue palette and flesh tone color wheel! I hope you enjoy it! :) #makeupartist #makeuptips #nomakeupmakeup
I hope you're doing well and I'll see you in the next video!!

omg THANK YOU for this. a MUA once did a no-makeup makeup on me armed only with a bunch of these little palettes and i couldn’t believe it. In ten minutes I looked like I’d just come back from a month long health retreat five years ago. I’ve tried to replicate the results with a stila palette but it’s not as good and I had no idea what I was doing. I’ve looked at other tutorials but they all went too fast and used too much makeup, but now I have this one I’m going to come out of quarantine looking 26 again. THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for this video!! - I’m going to cry, I finally feel like I’m “home” watching you mix the exact shades and really dig into and apply color theory. I’ve been using Seint makeup, and good for the people who could get it to work but I spent a lot of time, money and effort trying to get it to work but it always looked bad. I can see now what I really need is to be mixing my own colors. Thanks for this video! Will be checking out more them 💖💖

Someone needs to pick up my jaws from the floor. I've watched this entire video for a gazillion times already and every single time, it never fails to make my jaw drop. Now provided, I'm not even that interested in doing makeup for other people(yet), but this, nothing has sparked my interest in makeup artistry than this video. I'm literally just beginning to get in to makep(I only have tiny pouch for a makeup kit), but the usual ig and yt makeup tutorials here on youtube has never really inspired me to use makeup(they even scared me off of makeup). Who would've thought there was this side to makeup!! I found Angie Di Battista here on yt, and now your channel and I was just blown away. I mean if that's not the most perfect no makeup makeup look I've ever seen, then I don't know what is. Art in general has always fascinated me. Just the idea of using the least amount of products to recreate things you see in real life is just something I'm drawn towards. I was saving up so much money to buy an expensive foundation off of Sephora before I learned this whole new world of makeup. I mean I want to learn how to use makeup anyways, why not learn how to use it and have fun while I'm at it. Question though, did you go to a makeup school? If not, did you use any books or dvd's when you first started, if so is there any you can recommend? Lastly, what do you think is the most essential tools/products a beginner makeup artist should have in their kit?
@MakeupByShannonMarie
@MakeupByShannonMarie 4 года назад
Hi Rice Bunny!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a sweet comment, it's so nice to meet you!! Makeup is SO fun to play with, I'm still amazed at all the different avenues/careers/styles of makeup there are! I love watching Angie's channel too! Great questions! I did go to makeup school back in 2014 but also worked in retail for a really long time! :) I still love all the books from Bobbi Brown and Rae Morris... there are so many great tips in those books! However, it's really amazing what you can learn from other artists. I recommend you find an artist in a retail setting (maybe a Senior Artist in Sephora) or a freelance artist to take a lesson from! Sephora actually offers classes and most of them are free!! Those are great because you get to play with a lot of different products and work with a bunch of different artists! As far as essential tools/products for a beginner, that's such a great video idea! I'm going to add that to my list!! Hmmm, I've got to give that some thought because every artist is different and will have different priorities/needs in their kit. Let me get back to you!!

this is the exact makeup look i’ve been searching for for years, whatever makeup they do for those netflix teen dramas set somewhere in the midwest where all the girls wear tumblrfied 90s fashion, i love it so much. my problem is that i have huge dark spots on my chin and lots of redness on my cheeks and around my nose so its hard to look natural because i have to pack on concealer so im gonna have to buy a huge concealer and corrector palette, something cheap though like from coastal scents. rn im broke so imma have to improvise by just lightly buffing some sheered out foundation and concealer on my problem areas

Hi Shannon, I'm a new viewer and I love how you talk about makeup! I actually got the Flesh Tone Color Week this week, but I'm having trouble using it on myself, lol. I was wondering if you'd be able to explain how to use the color wheel on different skin tones a little further (I'm South Asian). Or how to use the color wheel to find flattering blush/lip colors. I totally understand how difficult that may be though, so no worries if you can't! Anyways, you have a lovely channel and I look forward to watching more videos! 💖

Question: why the color theory waxes as opposed to using foundation/blush/etc.? Loved this video! So educational!!
@MakeupByShannonMarie
@MakeupByShannonMarie 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching Shawna, great question! Using color theory for a no makeup makeup look will give you more of a natural "real-like" skin finish. We have so many different colors on our face and sometimes when we use one foundation color to neutralize everything... it can look too heavy and flat! It's not as practical for a consumer, but for a make-up artist it helps because we can use one palette on many different skin tones/skin conditions.

@MakeupByShannonMarie
@MakeupByShannonMarie 5 лет назад
Hey!! Great question, I've actually been getting this question a lot, I think I'll make a separate video about them showing the difference :) Really the only thing that they have in common are the colors, haha! I love them both, but use them for different reasons. Once you feel the two side by side, you immediately see/feel the difference! MaqPro - medium coverage (but covers everything with color correction :D) needs to be lightly worked into the skin I love this for concealer under the eyes, no makeup/makeup looks/natural makeup Sian Richards - full coverage (40% pigment) glides on sets quickly, but can be used dry, with a fluffy brush or activated with moisturizer. I love this for any and all :) if I use it for foundation, I'll usually mix it with Le MaqPro LIQUID foundation and it's AMAZING.. I'll use it for pimples, or any long film day, tattoo cover etc. (12+ hours)

This was a very insightful video for someone like me who wants to slowly get into professional makeup artistry. Can I ask though, as I have worked on film as an actor, how to set the face properly so as to not make it run under the hot lights? It was always something I wasn't sure how to deal with and your video doesn't have you set your face with any kind of powder. Thanks for the video either way and I cannot WAIT to apply it in real life!

Hey Angie! Thanks for the question - it really depends on the person/situation! I like to use the Laura Mercier powder on a puff and press it into the skin and then as far as keeping it matte, I’ll use a combination of blotting papers, puffs and every once and a while a mattifying gel! The black opal powders are also really good! 😊 hope that helps!! Keep me posted if you have any other questions!

It's funny cause I thought the right side was with makeup because the left looks more natural, haven't seen real people in sooo long, I've been binging on shows haha, you did a splendid job!

Love your videos. I'm a makeup artist in Redondo Beach. You don't have to set the fard creme in any way? Would you ever need a mixing medium, if so what would you use? Thanks.

That's awesome!! Thanks so much for the comment, I will sometimes set it with a little translucent powder on hot spots if the actor is oily. I know MaqPro does make a product called Maqpro Makeup Mixer but I've never tried it! I usually just sheer it out on my palette and apply in thin layers :)

Omg, great video!! I’ve been looking for makeup like that for so long! You look great, healthy and naturally beauty (which you ready are, with or without make up). Do you recommend any other brand or product? Lemaq is not easily found where I leave :( would you advise that kind of make up (cream) for someone with oily skin? It’s not that oily though. Just a little

Hey Beatriz! Thanks for the comment. You can definitely use a cream foundation on someone with oily skin, just make sure to lock it in with some powder and apply in thin layers! Hmmm, Ben Nye has some great corrector palettes too! Is that available where you live?

Wow I love it! Is it possible to recreate this look with the Sian Richards palettes? Can you get a "no makeup" effect with those?
@MakeupByShannonMarie
@MakeupByShannonMarie 4 года назад
Hey! Thanks so much for the comment Cintia! 😊 You can definitely get a “no makeup” look with the SRL palettes if you sheer out the product or use it when it’s dried down on the palette. That’s a great tutorial idea, I’m going to add it to my list of things to film! 😊

How did I just find your channel? You have such amazing videos and I love the concept of doing a lot with the tiniest amount of makeup. Although, "makeup" is too less of a word for what you do, this is rather "the art of painting people" because you're literally like an oil painter with your multiple colour palettes. Would like to see more videos of natural-looking no-makeup makeup. I was always curious how they do the makeup in period dramas because it looks so flawless and you literally can't detect any product even in closeup shots. There's a bunch of videos of no-makeup makeup tutorials out there, and they all actually use tons of makeup and by the end they don't even look like themselves anymore :)).

Hi! This was INCREDIBLY helpful. Apologies in advance because this will be long. So I have problematic skin (acne from medication I must take that also makes me very red, and regular acne), I honestly don't know my skin type because it used to be very oily, but ever since the lockdown it seems to be doing it's own thing (age? I dunno, I just turned 32). I was looking into buying a green color to cover my redness/acne and then a...yellow? salmon? color to cover my dark circles under my eyes. However, after looking at the price, I realised for good quality, non-creasing makeup, it's practically cheaper just to buy the petite PP01 (I'm very fair and cool undertoned) and the MAQpro Corrector/Lip/Cheek Petite Palette AI1 because then that'd allow me to use any color corrector without having to buy an entirely new one, solve my foundation matching issues, and I'd also get the bonus of cream blushes and lips. I can't tell if I'm getting in over my head. I studied graphic design so I know colour theory. I have made my own powder foundation from iron oxides, so I already understand that concept of mixing red/blue/yellow/white. Do you think this will help me achieve a natural everyday look that will most importantly hide all of my acne and look natural? I don't want it to look caked on which seems to happen with all the foundations I've tried, even only applying the smallest amount and really pressing it into the skin. I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed because I'm realising I'll need sponges and a spatula (and whatever else comes with using these creams?). However, if this will save me time and money in the long run, it seems like the cheaper option. Thank you for reading my essay in advance! There's really no RU-vid videos of people using these types of palettes so it was so nice to see it in action!!

Hi littlebrite! Thanks for the comment, yes I've use them for oily skin too!! Sometimes I'll prep the skin with a little bit of the Face to Face Matte Anti-Shine, just depends on the oily-ness :)
