This device has the most counter-intuitive interface I have ever seen. :-) Without your video I think it would be impossible to use. :-) I am currently working on a Meade LX-200 telescope mother board where the 5 Volt supply provided by a voltage regulator is indicating a short. (It gets boiling-hot!) The regulator is OK if I pull its output pin from the board. I am trying to find the short so wanted a power supply where I could set it to 5 Volts and use it instead of the voltage regulator to help figure out where the short is. I need to be able to continuously increase the current. Without your video, it would be very unlikely for me to discover how to do this! THANKS!!!
Hello, i have this psu, but the voltage i measure is higher. When i dialed in 3,7v it shows 5v on a multimeter. This destroyed a circuit. Is there any way to calibrate?

Lol, I bought this to start my colloidal silver journey and I have a degree in electronics and it was confusing. Seems like a great machine from all the reviews. Would you mind me asking you? Do you change your v&c settings on different batches to get different ppm’s or do you have a standard you go with. I ask because I have heard at lower current, you generate smaller particles. Not sure if that is true. I was always taught that the longer it runs, the larger the particles because the start sticking together.
thank you for your video. I've had this PS for about 5 years and have always been confused about how to set constant current vs. constant voltage. The manual that comes with it is very terse on the subject so your video made it clear how to use these.
Thank you so much for explaining and SHOWING how to set the crossover point between CV and CC. I have some BK Precisions and a really good 50A bench supply, but they are heavy and right now I'm doing some light work on single LED characterization where I need to set up quickly, reliably and use my KORAD as a portable- it's lightweight compared to the others, and mine is very stable. However, I read the manual 10 times and still couldn't figure out A) How to set the crossover point between CV and CC, and B) the 2-second, both-button push you kindly showed at the beginning of your video, so I could just turn the knobs freely during testing with out the digit placeholder push. You are a very linear, good instructor and I appreciate the time you took to freely share your knowledge. NOW I'm really glad I bought this power supply.
Thanks, I was charging a Li-ion battery and was confused what the meters were telling me (Voltage reading was lower than I expected) . This helped a lot :)
It would have no problem being used for LEDs, The power supply has more than enough voltage and amperage for LEDs and you can even play with some of the really large COB style (up to 30 volts of course) ones if you feel so inclined. If you are just lighting up single LEDs the unit might be a bit overkill, but it would allow room for future projects as well. I did accidentally destroy a red LED because I was messing around with my power supply and forgot to set a reasonable constant current... oops. :)
I set this for 30v 0amp it reads cv so i connect to my 12v battery I am desufating then i adj amps to 2.amp it switches to ca and the voltage drops to what the battery is at 12.01 What amp I doing wrong thanks
It would depend on what you would be using it for in terms of cellphone repair. For stand in testing to temporarily bypass the battery and attempt to get the phone to power up, it might work. For manually recharging a battery, it would probably work but you'd have to keep a close eye on the battery's voltage. It is a fairly decent power supply considering its price.
@@TinkeringWithTerrius There is a slightly more elaborate version of this device that has presets and more buttons for easier setup and a button to disconnect the load so you can set up the supply and then connect it to the load. Electronically, it has the same capability as this one. The bad news is that famous Australian reviewer/blogger/forum host and electrical engineer Dave Jones tested the sister model (3005P ?) with his lab grade equipment. It failed during testing. At one point it was outputting 56 unadjustable volts. At another point it was showing 5 amps but the voltage display read zero. The output was not shorted and it is not necessary to short the output to set a current limit with this supply. It also had some nasty voltage overshoot when connecting to load with certain current and voltage combinations. You can destroy equipment like that. I had high hopes for this supply but after seeing that video I will have to pass
Oh my, clumsy alarmclock interface :/ Why does not any brand create an easy to use voltage/current setting with encoder and proper number cycling acceleration!
I just bought one of these, no manual but very easy to use. I left it running with no load ,, 100mA limit at 3.30V on the device - which I verified with two different DVM. ALL OK. after 2 hours, I returned to my bench and found the device cycling every second or so - dropping to 0 and then ramping back up to ,my set voltage. Not impressed with this model
I'm trying to make colloidal Silver but an confused ass thi how to get my korad to go into constant current without my silver rods touching in the water. Do you have any idea how to accomplish what im talking about? I really need help if you have any advice, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for the info but you didn't explain enough about the protection we make mistakes sometimes what happens if wires are connected incorrectly of if we have a short why did you not explain that ?????
Mistakes happen, and with most bench PSUs, a dead short will only be limited by the quality of your leads that are connected to it, one of the few times cheap leads can save you heartache since they somewhat current limit it. If you wire something incorrectly, as with any power source, you will run the risk of damaging whatever you are powering. The only protection this unit provides is the ability to set OCP which will kill the output if a device draws more current than you have selected, you enable OCP by holding the current knob in until the OCP light comes on. Unfortunately as far as I am aware there is no protection to stop you from killing your components or destroying the power supply, though I couldn't/can't test this because it is my only bench PSU and I need it to stay in working order. :)
@@stevejosrph6065 If you set current to 0.5 A and you short terminals, current will be limited to 0.5A so that is protection. I think this one wont shut of, other models have shutdown when higher current or voltage is at place.
My Korad had famous crash issue even with the updated boards. I'm done with this Chinese junk. From now on, on keep on saving money to buy Rohde & Schwartz or similar high end equipment. Granted you can buy a complete lab with Owon or Siglent stuff for the price of just a Rohde & Schwartz power supply, but at least you don't have to worry about the equipment failing or, even worse, destroying anything hooked up to it. Chinese just can't designing anything decent.
also have this PSU, and it's a solid linear PSU for what it cost. I just have the EU KA version with no protruding sockets., and both P version KA and KD so I can use them with software, and get all the programming timed features and buttons that way. but I gotta admit, I really think Korad screwed it up with the interface on the KA, too many buttons can be a hassle, but too few is even a bigger hassle.. a few dedicated buttons would have been nice, even a load on, load off is usually mandatory. and I hate its CV and CC feature. STUPID DESIGN - THERE IS NO CUT-OFF BUTTON!!! You turn it on and it's live on the terminals, so you have to turn it on, set the voltage/current, then turn it off, plug things in and turn it back on again. Whoever thought this was a good design... Definitely was someone who wasn't planning on using it!
