In this video we look at Mark 2 (MK II) and how to set it up and use it. A lot of people were telling me they hare having issues with the MK II not sharpening square. I will show you the methods I use to sharpen square with the MK II.

Remember to lubricate the roller. Mine got seized up and stopped rolling and gain multiple facets.

Have you ever heard of Nano Hone Sharp Skate? I found the site by accident, but it is from a company that was started by a guy that worked at Shapton USA. The Sharp Skate looks different. I wonder how well it works.

Thanks for the video! Do you know the distance between the marks on the blade carrier at 3:04 are measureed at? Seems like the 1" and 2" marks are pretty close together.

It is 1 and 2 but not 1" and 2". They have the marks set for the iron width so it centers it in the jig. Thay is just a reference so you know put it here for a 2" iron. Hope that helps!

My MK 2 honing guide had a bad roller that caused it to cut a crooked bevel: they sent me a new one.

Some folks should take a breathalyzer test before sharpening. If they fail it, then they should not be allowed to complain about un-square blade edges. 🍷🍻🍸🍺🥂🍾

One additional note; if you use the secondary bevel knob, be aware that it only lifts one side of the roller, so if you're relying on the roller, things aren't going to be square -- concentrate on your pressure on the blade, basically.

Are you referring to the micro-bevel knob? Because it offsets the entire roller on an eccentric axle, not just one side. I use it all the time and the micro-bevels are always perfectly square and even across the width of the iron. Or maybe I'm just completely misunderstanding you.

Sorry Allan I have to agree with @Wintermutt here. It shifts the entire roller not one side. You may notice that the micro bevel isn't a perfect line all the way accross. It will ether catch up with itself or things aren't dead square

@@BatCaveCreations Interesting. Back when I bought mine, it seemed that everyone had that the issue that I described with the micro-bevel, and that was the received wisdom as to the reason. I chalked it up to a learning experience, moved on to the L-N honing guide, and pretty much never considered Lee Valley as an option again in my tool purchasing. Any no, this is not the Mandela effect, I can look through the forums that talked about the issue at the time, and still find those discussions. Starting to wonder if we were all just dealing with a bad batch or something. Will have to find where mine is and look at it more closely.

oooh that would be a horrible choice on Veritas to make it so the entire roller doesn't move. I am going to reach out to my Veritas contact and see what they say!

Our contact stated this is a myth they are aware of. He stated: "The axel in the roller is off center, so when you change the knob the entire wheel shifts. its eccentric. The parallelism is maintained when you adjust the knob." / I asked if past models were different and he stated nope, the wheel mechanism has changed but it's always maintained parallelism.
