the pin HAS to install with the wings in the horizontal position, push in, then rotate to the right. First time I did this, it didn't seem to work and the pin would fall out. The inside was now in the vertical position. I used a small flathead screwdriver to rotate the inside 1/4 turn counter clockwise to get it back to horizontal. Then I tried again and was able to push it in to "lock" and rotate 1/4 turn clockwise.

Hmmm, what if you accidentally lock a door with privacy pin engaged, or kiddo locks self in room how do I pop the lock open from the outside of the door? There is no hole in the outside handle. Thx for your help.

I have done this 15 times, even used a different =handle kit and lock pin IT WILL NOT click in!!!

It's too bad the locking pin does not actually install as demonstrated in the video. When you push the pin in, with the "wings" in horizontal, the door locks, then I turn it 1/4 turn to the right and the pin falls out. Nice looking product but it doesn't work. After having other failed Schlage products I should have known better....

Out of curiosity, did you resolve the issue? I'm encountering a similar thing... the 'click' happens but then upon turning the knob, the pin launches out of the slot across the bathroom (or against the knob in place). Feels like there's supposed to be an in-between stage on installation.

how do you remove the privacy pin altogether. i put it on first by mistake before the face plate.

Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. If you need to remove the privacy pin, simply rotate the pin to the left until it stops (about 1/4 turn), and then pull the pin out. You may need to use pliers, but be sure to reinstall the pin cap first, or use some other material to protect the finish. Let us know if you have questions. Thanks, Jenny.

@@SchlageLocksOfficial hi there, my father installed the locks without adding the privacy pin and today I tried to add it but now the pin is stuck and the little circle isn’t facing upwards,...I think I was supposed to put the pin on before installing the handle, right? Is there a way to remove the pin, I’ve tried using pliers but that didn’t help!

Bought an awful schlage bath lock. Sounds like a gunshot when you open. Got locked out and now realize they gave handle without the hole to open! Removed outside knob. Still won't open. I'll have to wreck the door molding. Very poor locks. Never again.
