Great video!! Simple and to the point. Helped me out as a newly saved Christian as of 10/27/18. My Brother gave it to me back in 1993 when I went overseas while serving in the Marine Corps. It is finally getting a lot of use since I now follow Jesus with every bit of my being. Can’t put it down, and it rarely closes since I’m always studying his word. Thanks again and God Bless.
Very timely advice! I recently bought one at our local used bookstore. Copyright 1964 BB Kirbride Bible Co. Has an 80 page concordance (yep, I need a Fresnel lens). Hadn't taken the time to take an in-depth look at it, so I do appreciate your "heads up". From what I've seen and what you said, this is definitely being moved from the bookcase to my desktop for easy access. Thanks for sharing.
The only problem I had with thin Bible is that the text tends to be quite small even for the average reader. I am somebody with poor vision so I require a large print Bible at least much larger than what is depicted here. Otherwise the Thompson chain reference Bible is excellent simply for its resources.
Pastor Waldron, Thanks for the great review. Always enjoy your reviews. The Thompson Chain Reference KJV Bible has been one of my favorite Study Bible’s especially many years ago when I was in Bible college. When I was pastoring and in Seminary training, I got the Special Centennial Edition, I believe it’s the 5th Edition of the Thompson Chain when it first came out. It’s still new and bound in its original Morocco Goatskin cover and prized by collectors. I was wondering if you know or if your earlier Thompson Chain Reference Bible (KJV) Edition has the section #4220 on page 1585 to 1588. Its the “Origin and Growth of the English Bible” section. It has the modern version and Alexandrian understanding and history. I am a KJV Bible and Received Text Bible believer as yourself. I remember very early editions when there was only the KJV printings. I am not sure when they put this section into the Thompson Chain and was wondering if you know that information of when they started to put this section in. My guess would have been when they started to print the NKJV and NASV of 1977 Edition, I believe that might have been in the 1990’s or maybe later since in the new Thompson Chain Versions. I haven’t seen any 1980’s printing of these versions but they might of had them but might not of been popular. I really started to see other Thompson Chain versions (other then the KJV) in early 2000’s and becoming more popular in the mid 2000’s and later into 2010 and now the ESV being newly available this year. I like that Church Bible Publishers has available the Thompson Chain Reference Bibles in KJV with their wonderful Calfskin in the regular mid size and large size 5th editions and printed and bound in the United States. So, if you know when they started to put these (4220 section) pages 1585 to 1588 into the Thompson Chain Reference Bibles, that would be great to know and also if the new ESV edition printings have an updated section including the ESV in their English bible history because the older doesn’t have it. Just curious. It would be nice if the Thompson Chain Publishers would have this section excluded in the KJV editions or the history up to the KJV since it’s a KJV Thompson Chain.
Thank you for the review. I've got the large print, but I've been thinking about getting a regular size. The large print is so big it's hard to hold in my lap and read comfortably :)
I've been using my Thompson daily for reading and studying, and I would just warn people to beware that he appears to be a Wescott and Hort guy. I've found that his outline of the Gospel of Mark stops at verse 8. Also, studying the worship of Christ on earth I go to topic 3922, and noticed there were some missing verses in the Gospels. Sure enough, the new versions change that translation in several verses (one is MT 9.18) from worship to kneel or bow down. These are the same verses the TCR leaves out. I think he was using the RV or ASV. I'm sure I'll find more.
Video needs to be redone. Whoever did the video photography didn't highlight the subjects mentioned by the speaker (not focused properly on the right numbers). This could be very disconcerting for a newcomer to the product. Pastor Steve is a great guide to the TC Bible, but the video doesn't match the right numbers and the subjects he mentions.
Pastor Steve. I have a Kirkbride 5th edition Thompson Chain its a KJV but its called the new chain reference bible. Could you tell me what the differences are. I cant fint much on google or RU-vid
Parallel Passage. “They are minor references prepared by a thorough revision of the old reference systems, and are not in the chains.” (From Explanation of the Margins, Text Cyclopedia and the Journey Maps at the front of the Bible.)
Sir...I just splurged on this Bible. Can you PLEASE...(somebody...anybody) tell me what the numbers are in parentheses???? I gave an example where the word ‘Creator’ in Genesis had a ‘(2)’ to a lady on here that reviewed the TCR. She kindly replied back with a video on Q&A and answered that it correlates to the ‘Best Methods of Study’ section because it is numbered 1-5. Basically she says... it’s a ‘legend’ that those are suggesting the type of study method to use with those numbers. Ugghhh...that doesn’t sound correct. If the numbers were just 1-5 that might make sense but even that doesn’t sound plausible. Reason being- I have the big/normal size TCR. On page 1114, Luke page heading: ‘Christ’s Agony in the Garden’ & in the margin chain section under ‘Christ Prayer in Gethsemene’-there is 2840 Importunity (24). I get the 2840 but what is the (24) in relation to? There’s also above that Keeling (14). I know there is a simple answer (and not the Best Bible Study Methods) but maybe being unfamiliar with this ‘study system’-it is the reason I am over-looking. I paid a good piece for this beautiful(Lambskin) Word of GOD. I would like to know all I can so it can help me as it was suggested that it would in self-study. I’ve amassed quite a few Bibles in search of one that helps me better in personal study. I don’t want to shelve this out of frustration because this maybe an important feature that I need to use but... don’t know how. I want to use it and I have been and love the chain method but running into this is bugging me sir. Please help Mr. Steve.
Hi, the numbers are subsections to the reference For example in Genesis 1 verse 1 in Creator #884 (1) The (1) there is a subsection of the topic found in Reference #884 Meaning it is Subsection 1 of the topic Creator found in Reference #884 which in my TCR Bible is pafe 1396 God Bless
