Thanks, but I'm finding just using a light gauge wire works cleaner. I've gone as thin as 40 guage, but if just only slightly over twisted, it breaks. 34 guage is my sweet spot.
Great content and information, just found your channel and after watching a couple of your videos I’m a subscriber. I am new to the hobby and like you believe in saving money where you can because this stuff adds up fast! Looking forward to your Fly shop to opening soon if not already up and running. Very nice! I am a wire brush guy (pike are very hard on flies), and I suspect that many of the features of your machine would work for those brushes as well. I look forward to seeing you tie a few flies with your brushes. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Chip! Yeah, I've never caught or even fished for pike or any other toothy critter, so I have no experience to reference. I've used wire all the way down to a 32ga (which breaks way to easy). Wire (for me) did not have the elasticity; I'm not talking about stretch, because this thread doesn't stretch, and thinner wire doesn't have the strength to aggressively brush out the fibers; and the wire didn't allow me to take out the recoil effect without untwisting the wire. I will get the video up asap on tying with the wireless brush. Thanks again.
You have made a science out of it! Really great stuff. I've seen a lot of videos to make brush but this is the more or less perfect one. I still will prefer wire but a lot of tipps I will follow. Thanks a lot!

Have you ever thought about making wefts? Theres a couple videos on here of weft making, I have been hoping that someone would apply it to streamer materials, specifically craft fur. It requires the use of a sewing machine, which is something I've been trying to dig up online for quite a while now and nobody seems to have any interest in. Theres gotta be tons of tricks and new techniques waiting to be discovered in that realm... curiosity alone may drive me to try soon of nobody else thinks it's worth the time.
My wife is a seamstress and makes custom clothing. I've talked to her about this many times, just having been able to get her interested. I will show her your comment and what comes of it.
I made my own version of the original brush maker using an old fan motor-worked good but couldn't find the thin wire-i think i can use my own using your idea with thread-need help=on bottom thread my thread will be in a wood channel-anythoughts on what i can prepare the channel so the glue will not stick to the channel
Dunno if these would work for you, but when I was looking for thin wire for another purpose, I found metal guitar strings useful. Also stripped phone connection wire from an old fashioned landline might work.
@@FlyTyer1948 thanks, but the thread is working beyond my expectations. It stays together when I cut it and I can cut it with scissors. Pretty sure this thread is stronger than the wire as well.
Hello Mike, Love your brush machine. One of the best that I've ever seen. I also make all kinds of fly related ideas as that's what makes building flies as much as I like heading out going fishing. Anyway, still working at 69 but just had a stroke this August (an AVM). Got a long way to get back to work and would like to build myself my own brush fly. Is it possible to send me copies of your detail for building your brush machine ? Photo copies ? Any chance you have anything on a design drawing to help me move things around a little earlier ? This would be a great thing to work on at home while I'm getting my Dr and therapeutic person trying to get me going in the right direction. Thanks Mike

For a long time I have not been using wire, but thread. I used mild wax instead of glue, but I don't like that. Thanks for the Super Glue tip. Nanotechnology filament is very slippery, so I used Uni Big Fly filament. What thread would you recommend to use?
Where did you get your motor? I made something similar and it is run off of a small battery pack, but I would like to have some that plugs into the wall like yours.
Yeah that'll work out perfect cuz closest one that I can think of close to me is Delmar and Hopkins or if I go north is going to be mad River so you being a little bit closer will work out great
@@xplicitfishin braided line is slick and won't take the super glue as well as the polyester embroidery thread. Many furled leader makers use embroidery thread.
