In case anyone watching this is wondering whether or not to pick up Sam's rig, the answer is yes, you should. After breaking it and not understanding what went wrong, I reached out and Sam got right back to me with the problem solved. A+ support!

For all Octane Users out there: To use a specular material don't forget to check fake shadows in common tab of your material.

@@SamTatoCG Hi Sam, using latest XParticles & C4d I seem to have an issue when swapping out the Geometry.. It fails to stick. I realise that things have changed since you created the rig and I am a bit of a newbie with Xparticles. It works with your original scene just fine though so seems odd it breaks with another model. If you think this is an easy/obvious fix I would appreciate any tips. I could try it with an older version of XP but thought I'd see if this could be more of a future proof type rig. Thanks in Advance.

@@DeclanMcGurry Hi, is the model animated? If so I have a workflow for that in the manual. If the model is using deformers I have a workflow for that I can email to you. Shoot me a message over email and I can look through your scene to see what the problem might be.

Can you make a tutorial how you actually made a Rig like that with Expresso? I would love to be able to put the most needed functions into one place, especially with X-Particles where sometimes the needed parameters are scattered around so many different tabs, so it would be awesome to have that all in one place. I would also pay for that!

The xpresso is a simple setup, just setting up user data and connecting the ports, if you search for a tutorial on user data you should be able to figure it out!

Great plugin and great work Sam, worth every penny. I do struggle with the animation part. When i put the rig into a animated rig, it offsets when it moves. Like its lagging after. Why is that?

So I just bought this rig, but discovering it might not work with translucent materials like glass? Did not expect that we cant stop it from emitting on inside of a bottle or glass model, since we have no vertex map option or polygon selection??
@SamTatoCG

Thanks for picking up the rig! What I do is make a separate object with only the outer polys and make it hidden for render.

Nice one! I would totally buy it, just one question. Does the particles stick to the surface of a animated mesh? I'm having a detailed soft surface model with animation that would look amazing with droplets.

Hey there, the current build does not work with an animated mesh but I created a version that does work that I created for another customer. I just haven’t been able to update and distribute it yet. If you end up buying it shoot me an email and I’ll send over that version!

Very nice, What about a flat surface, like the lid of the pan. Please advise me, thank you
@SamTatoCG
@SamTatoCG Год назад
If you would like kinetic particles to spawn on flat surfaces you can either uncheck "consider slope" or you can adjust the actual slope values inside of the slope_negative and slope_positive emitters under Object - Topology - Min and Max Slope. Email me for more clarity if you'd like!

I picked up both your can models and your x-particles condensation rig. When I replace the default cube with the can and hit play, I no longer see the particles. I'm sure there's something simple or obvious I'm missing here. Please advise. Thanks!

Posting the fix here for anyone who runs into the same issue - The distribution of particles is driven by the c4d material named "XP Static Droplet Distribution". This needs to be a standard c4d material to work and it looks like it was replaced with an Octane material.

Hello @samtato... I just bought your rig, amazing!, However, I can't seem to make it look soft and subdivided. I already tried using RS Tesellation tag on every drop geometry and/or turning on Tessalation Overide to the Static Emitter Rs Tag... but it still renders Low Poly. Any suggestion?
@SamTatoCG
@SamTatoCG Год назад
Hey there, thanks for picking up the rig! Are you talking about the static drops or the kinetic ones? The static drops are found under the utilities folder. They are already pretty subdivided but you can subdivide them further if you'd like. The kinetic mesher is the mesh for the moving drops. Shoot me an email if you need more help!
@jcspotlight_design
@jcspotlight_design Год назад
@SamTatoCG Tks for your reply. Yeah, I'm talking about being able to apply RS Tesellation on the droplets so that I can render them from very close without showing their low poly structure. Subdividing the original droplets would not help as it would drastically affect the performance. This is an urgent problem, as I'm on the edge of my delivery... would you mind tell me how can I effectively contact you?

@@jcspotlight_design we can talk through sam@samtato.com
@SamTatoCG
@SamTatoCG Год назад
@@jcspotlight_design I will say though hopefully you have the drop generator turned off so that your viewport performance isn't affected. RS is taking care of the drop generation at render so you don't need the drop generator turned on. Apply the RS tag with tesselations turned on to the droplets found under "drop_geo_generator" they're named droplet_01 and soforth. Those are the droplets referenced in the RS tag on the "static_emitter". I don't have a problem getting extremely close using this method so let me know if you have issues.

Hi Sam, can i add custom objects to the kinetic mesher? like if i wanted to create a custom particle trail , or add a cutom animated droplet geometry to one of the kinetic trails?
@omerariely
@omerariely Год назад
and another question - can i mesh the static droplets to create a more complex condensation look? Thanks
@SamTatoCG
@SamTatoCG Год назад
@@omerariely Hi, If you'd like to spawn custom objects along the trail this is easy enough to build. The functionality isn't built directly into the rig but can be added to the system if you know how to use xp. Let me know if you'd like help on that. For the Kinetic Mesher question, I'm not sure you'd want to add custom geo to be meshed because it wouldn't look right. If you'd like, send me a detailed email about what you'd like to achieve and I can help you through it. Yes, you can mesh the static droplets but this setup isn't meant for that, there is one particle per droplet so if you meshed it you would just get a sphere for each particle.

When I cache, it looks different than when I just go ahead one frame at the beginning. I'm using my own painted map (PNG) in the distribution material. Could that be causing the issue?
