A quick video showing how to use the Yamaha Sideswitch controls. I hope you like the video! :) Filmed at our Shoreham Showroom eBike Sussex. www.ebikesussex.com
Thanks for the info, just purchased a Haibike Trekking 4 High 500. Have tried it out today and love it, found out a few of these things myself but found your video helpful 👍
I just got my Haibike trekking 4 and i have an issue with the pedal assist, it works fine for 5 seconds after turning the bike on but then after that it just doesn't work anymore. Any tips?
Lovely bike! I would recommend checking with the shop you got it from, and ask have they serviced it correctly initially. Sounds like a speed sensor error maybe. If you are local to our Shoreham store bring it down for a service. Hope that helps.
Hi, ive got a hardseven 6 and yesterday was the first time ive used it in the dark. When i turned it on i couldn't see the screen because it wasnt lit up. I noticed on the video that that one isn't lit up either. Is there a way to turn the blue backlight on and off? Cheers
Does this display have an internal watch type battery. The display on my bike is not working properly, dimly lit or doesn't turn on and I've seen where the Model B control has a watch battery but I can't find any reference for the Model A control.
No it doesn’t have an internal battery, it could be the automatic backlight feature that is not working. Perhaps take the machine to be serviced at your local Yamaha Haibike specialist.
I Have an haibike with motor pw-x3, can you explain me please how to use walk mode. I cannot understand the procedure because my english is so and so. Thank you for the video
If it has this sideswitch control you just hold down the button with an image of someone walking with their bike. The bike will then push itself along. :)
They come in a variety of lengths and should come with enough cable and a plug to go into the frame just behind the head tube. The bridging cable from the controls to the motor is normally separate and reused when the controls are replaced. It runs from The motor where it is plugged in up to the head tube area on the ebike. Here it is connected to the sideswitch controls.
Hi, i have a Haibike and i don’t understand why i can’t use the Auto mode or the last EXPW function. Anything helps./ I did the same as you, maybe i need to remove the battery or do some diagnostics from the computer ? Thanks.
Not all motors have the EXPW function or the walk mode or auto function. For example the junior size Yamaha models from Haibike and Lapierre. You should ask the store you purchased from to confirm the features your machine should have.
On the ODO screen hold down the up and down arrow together and the screen will flash km or mph. Scroll to the one you want then press and hold down to save it. Switch off and back on again and it should now be sorted.
Okay, this is from memory so excuse me if I get it wrong: On the ODOMETER screen press and hold both the arrow up and arrow down buttons simultaneously. Try it pressing the buttons closer to the screen and you may find it easier. Once you have accessed the screen kmph will flash, you can then singularly press up or down to get it to change to mph and back to kmph. Once it is on the one you want press the power off button to save. Hope this helps!
No although there are instructions online for opening the built in diagnostic system to clear down error codes as I understand it. We use the Yamaha dealer software though to reset the ebike after multiple faults (as it will likely shut down or have limited power). You could remove the battery, refit it a few minutes later and see if that helps. I have seen some errors on Yamaha resolving from battery removal and refitting. Best to take to your nearest Yamaha ebike dealer if problem persists.
Only works when lights are wired to the motor using the dedicated light cable (hidden with the motor wiring loom cables). Press for on and press again for off.
Sounds like you are on trip or odometer and not range. Otherwise it could be a software issue and you may need it looking at by a certified dealer with Yamaha diagnostics like ourselves.

It could be a screen failure, you can test this at your local Yamaha ebike dealer using their diagnostic tool. If it isn’t the screen it may be software related and could require an update once again that is probably sortable with the diagnostic tool the dealer will have downloaded in conjunction with their special dealer key.
Hi there, I have recently brought 2 kids overvolt's with the pw-te motor they have this display, the walk button doesn't do anything and they can only get assist if they stand and pedal there hardest if they try to cruse along they only get to 5 mph if they ride my wife's trek rail with the bosch motor they can easily do 15mph any ideas? Is there bikes set up wrong?
The junior e-bikes have no auto mode, no walk mode and are limited to 12.5mph instead of the normal 15.2mph. This is to be expected on a junior EBike and is not adjustable after market as I understand.
