Once you borrow against your BTC you no longer collect interest on that BTC. It becomes collateral for the loan. Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

I’m debating borrowing against my BTC on Coinbase to use that buy more crypto's. It's 8% APR and I believe I'll have no issue paying it back but if the price of BTC drop significantly, your collateral isn't as much value anymore and you need to add more collateral... so the volatility scares me cause when BTC drops so does all the other alts...

You can borrow up to 50% of the value of your btc with high rate 8% . And you are risking to lose your btc. So you save a little tax to lose the whole thing. The only sane strategy is hold your bitcoin

It’s not little tax but rather 25% - 8%. You are essentially saving 17% tax saving per year, which is amazing especially if the Bitcoin continues to go up. Your appreciated value itself would be sufficient to pay off the borrowed amount.

Mark, Can you maybe answer a question thats on a lot of peoples minds I think? How can we manage the crypto taxes to pay off school loans? like if your bitcoin is worth 20k and you owe 15k in school loans how do you manage that without incuring a tax burden? How can we make a tax free (or reduced) plan to get the school loans paid off?

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN how to borrow against your crypto. I spent so much time and still don’t understand. So I own bitcoin and take a loan out say from block fI for 10,000 in bitcoin then with that loan money I then what? I don’t understand the term borrowing against your crypto like what is “against”

it literally means you borrow bitcoin. let's say i borrow 3 bitcoin = about 100 k dollars. now i do have to pay interest of 5% on it but lets say bitcoin goes up 10% every year. then i make 5% = 5000 dollars and use that money to fund my life. eventually when i want to pay back, i pay back the 3 bitcoin. so basically take a long position. i would not advise it. and this clown boomer thinks the interest rate on his funds will exceed the interest rate on borrowed bitcoin. don't listen to him. take out a mortgage if you like leverage

Against means if you can't pay off your loan you forfeit your crypto. It's you against the banks.

What could blow this up is if BTC suddenly falls and the exchange, broker...etc margin calls him. He better have the money for the margin call or they will liquidate him. Adios BTC!

Lost me on something. Funding a Ross incurs pretax charge. You did not mean fund a Traditional IRA ?

Funding a roth does not result in tax, it just doesn't result in a deduction like funding a traditional IRA would. Therefor if you fund a Roth with loan money, your income/tax does not increase. If you sold crypto and funded a roth, you would pay the capital gains tax the year you sold it.

I have a question, i am in the UK. I have an account with lets say 1 BTC plus other crypto assets. I borrow against only my 1BTC at 25% basically locking up 4 times the amount i borrow. the loan has zero interest for 3 years ( nice one i know) . I have although other crypto assets in my account that produce an X amount of income in the year 20/21 and my total income from interests is lets say 2K. total i borrowed from my 1 BTC is lets say 4K so locking up 12K as collateral. with the amount i borrowed i bought more BTC. do i pay taxes on the income received in 20/21 tax year? some says NO because the amount of the loan ( expense ) offset the income i received. Some say YES because the only expense from a loan is the interests on that loan. in this case i have been offered a zero interest loan. I AM CONFUSED!!!! can your wisdom help???????

He cannot make "Roth" via Solo 401(k) as you described. He can contribute up to about $6k/yr toward Roth and not $14.5k (depending on his income level). You don't explain the limitations of funding Roth IRA. From there one loses the interest in following the "logic" b/c the facts do not confirm your "logic". Sorry to say, but this is BS.
