Very informative video, the only thing I would add is it's OK if you want to keep your linemen belt attached while you are hunting. Arborist always have 2 points of connection. If it makes you feel safer just leave the linemen belt attached .

Also dont be afraid to climb with more then just a linemans, use your tether, a safety line, a 2nd lineman, anything that makes you feel safer. The whole need to be up a tree in 3mins just rubs me the wrong way, safety over maybe missing or scaring a deer

It's worth noting that a prussic tender makes the standard prussic significantly more user friendly and you can make them out of cordage which makes them extremely affordable.

I love that someone finally said it! Use your tether as second lineman belt when going around a limb. This just shows the veracity you get from a saddle. Try going around a limb with a climber.

I am an arm amputee missing my right arm. I just received my complete Tethrd setup and climbed for the first time. I absolutely already prefer this over hang and hunt or my climber. It is extremely easy for me to hang the predator platform over a hang-on stand. Very comfortable. I am able to shoot compound bow 360 degrees and since I am missing my arm, turning to make off hand shots is super easy for me. Thanks Tethrd.

Fall protection i have always been taught to be above yourhead to minimize fall impact and potential breakage to the tether. My cousin feel 30 feet from his tree stand because of no fall protection. Broke his back and he had to re learn hiw to walk basically. Well he lived his life on the edge and hes dead now from a motocycle accident st 34 years old. I might suggest to describe the Tether as being attached to the tree by, "Running Eye" verses the common industry description of, "Girth Hitch". I believe this to be a proper or more correct / accurate terminology. I appreciate your very educational youTube podcast. thanks for your efforts. If A tether were to be "Girth Hitched" to the Tree, maybe there would not be a need for a "castration band or Celtic Knot"? I hope that this idea does not come off as being a know it all. I am grateful for your obvious experience and knowledge.

I ordered the 11mm tether and lineman's belt from Thetrd today. In looking at the specs I see the tether is Brown/Orange and has a 5" factory-spliced eye and 2 carabiners, and the lineman's belt is Green/Black and has a 2″ factory-spliced eye and 1 carabiner. Is there any other differences between the two besides color of rope, size of eye, and number of carabiners? Why is there a difference in the size of the eye, why is 5" better for a tether and 2" better for a lineman's rope? It is helpful for us to understand why our gear is designed the way it is.

So do you use that ropeman1 for your tether?
@jeffsalsieder640
@jeffsalsieder640 4 года назад
Does this make sense? When you select your tree it should be apparent by visual inspection that you will have to negotiate one or more limbs. In that case you could rig your second lineman's belt before you start up the tree, keeping it attached to the harness but stowed in your sys hauler. Two benefits: 1) Eliminates one rigging step from an elevated position, 2) Eliminates the possibility of dropping the second rope. I welcome your thoughts.

One problem, when you have to climb over branches if you don’t pick a bean pole tree you’re are going to have to disconnect lineman belt and reconnect and would be momentarily unTethrd......
@lubob3
@lubob3 4 года назад
Good point. The last thing you want to do is to be untethered, even momentarily! The solution would be to have a second lineman rope to pass around the trunk above the higher branch BEFORE you disconnect the first lineman to pass it higher too (without overlapping the safety line you moved up first). I used to rock climb and, I have to tell you, the use of knots and ropes I see in saddle hunting videos is not sufficiently detailed to prevent accidents. For example, it is true that, on branch-less trunks, you are always connected to the tree by the lineman rope, but I can assure you that if your foot slides down, first your face is going to hit the tree, and then both your face and your privates are going to be roughed up while you slide down the trunk. Look at hunting accidents stats, folks! After being accidentally shot with a rifle, the fall from a tree stand comes second. If you are going to safely use a hunting saddle, be absolutely clear about, and practice, how to go up, how to secure your belay, and how to get out of the saddle and climb/rappel down.
