How to Value and Resell Perfume Bottles and their History by Dr. Lori 

I'm not surprised at all by the fact that Dr Lori used to wear ESCAPE perfume, since this is a very nice scent! This was very well known and some people wore it in the nineties in my country, Argentina, as a "good taste" perfume. And, about the AMARIGE, I remember having fallen in love with my Geography teacher from 1st year in Secondary school, because every time she walked between us in the classroom, I smelt it and I loved that sweet scent very much. Of course, that was such an impossible love story, since I was 13 and she was in her 50s...

I have learned so much from you already Dr. lori! I am like a sponge when it comes to what you have to say! You are an excellent teacher, very knowledgable and can I just say...... I would love to sit down and share a bottle of Red Wine with you! Oh my! I used so many of those perfumes! And oh my part two I threw away so many bottles! I saved them for years and finally decided to “ declutter”. I had one shaped like a Jaguar that I almost held back but nope, out it went. I still have an Avon bottle, To a Wild Rose, that was my grandmother’s favorite. I open it from time to time to remind me of her. She would have been 126 tomorrow. Great video!

I truly enjoy all of your programs. Learn so much. I have two bottles of Guerlin,Shalimar, my sons gave me years ago. I never opened them or used them. They are 3oz plus , sealed, full, and in original velvet box and outer paper box. I never knew they could be valuable. I checked on EBay and was amazed how much a few people were asking. $300. to $600. and even empty bottles. I then found your program on perfume and realized it might be true.

Really opened my eyes to the value of my HUGE collection of perfume bottles. I have the Red Lauren you used as an example and was Happily Surprised. , 🌸 Looks like my collection of at least 50 or more could be worth a nice sume of moey. Thanks for this Dr. Lori. I actually collect and use the juice. I have a beautiful bottle of Chanel No 5 about 40 years old and it smells divine. Stored in a cool place and in the box. A well kept vintage scent will sell for HUNDREDS. Many contain ingredients now considered allergens but when they change these ingredients the scent changes. Caron, Dior, Chanel, Guerlain. Mmmmm. They don't make 'em like they used to.

My favorite perfume is also ESCAPE! Been wearing it for over 20 years. LUV it!

I happen to have some metal powder compacts from my grandmother. One is monogrammed and in a box from her local jeweler. 👀 I also have a little ring of hers that flips open and has a mirror for reapplying lipstick. 💙

I buy old perfume for the perfume, have a lot, and I wear them! My most favorite ones are Avon-Occur, Moonwind, and Persian Wood; and Coty- Emeraude, Lorigan', and LaMaint, and Loves Baby soft, Skin Musk, and Shalimar are other favorites!!!

My father gave my mother a very small bottle of Chanel no 5 for their wedding 1956 my mother never opened it and it is still in the box.

I can't wait!! I have some old perfume bottles and some still have the perfume and powder in them.

In high school I used Ambush, Tabu and Heaven Scent. Now mostly Design. Wish I had thoes early bottles. How lucky that you get to travel to Russia!

I’ve sold a lot of vintage perfumes in the past. It always sells for me, and sells very well. I recently found a powdered perfume in a ceramic box for $4 at a flea market, it’s really cool and it has done very well on eBay in the past. I’m keeping it for my collection though. I absolutely love it.

have a cute small Avon bottle , it's pink and have 3 gold looking legs on the bottom called Heres My Heart cream sachet, it's empty but can smell the cream, the lid has a picture of a lady with a tiara on her head. I love the way it looks

I have a lot of Evening In Paris bottles. It was my Mom's favorite perfume. I have a small square one with a metal cap that is perfume. I have a small one with an atomizer. I have a couple of the bigger ones that have the sloped edges and not square...and one that is gold with a gold cap and all!

Lauren & Blue all of my favorites. 2 years ago, I saw Blue at Kohl’s. After I got over my childish glee. I bought my favorite scent. I continue to go back when I need more. I’m still on the hunt for Lauren. One day, I know, I’ll find her.🙂

Years ago our family drew names for Christmas. My sister in law stated that whoever got her name she wanted White Linen perfume. Her grandmother got her name, she got white sheets.

Hi Dr Lori, I've had an obsession with old vintage bottles and have collected quite a few as well as complete box sets and some Lalique and I. Rice. My favorite is the very first Dior , bottle still sealed and original box.I'd love to see more on perfume bottles as some are quite a piece of art. I'd love to figure out how to send pics, as well a mystery framed poster of a gorgeous Hollywood actress that's driving me nutts,lol. Anyway I'll figure it out. Love watching , thank you for all the tools to help those of us appreciate the talent and workmanship of the past and love to collect them and learn about the history.

In my high school years I used a variety of perfume. Father brought me Madam Rochas from Paris and I liked Cachet. Then I found Youth Dew by Este Lauder and it works so well with my body chemistry, it has been my main perfume since the 80's.

Lauren was the first perfume I wore and is still my winter scent.....should have kept my old bottles!

I have a bottle of Avon Mesmerize that I got from a thrift store. Bought it to resell but I loved the scent so it's now mine and I use it all of the time. I also have some that look like small tester bottles and they kinda smelled different but the daring soul in me said try me...I did and the scent once applied was actually very nice. So those also became mine 😂

The L' Air Du Temps, (Nina Ricci), was my Mother's absolute favorite perfume.

L'Air du Temps translates "current fashion". I have some perfume that is around 100 years old and it doesn't smell bad at all. Spring Lilac in an art deco bottle with the classic cicada stopper (looks awful but smells fine considering its age); and something in an antique-ish Guerlaine baccarat bottle (a little dark but smells incredibly intoxicating).

I have tons and tons of Avon bottles some still in their boxes, some still have the perfume in them but are a lot stronger in smell.

Dr. Lori! I I'm so glad I watched this video! I have an early '80s eau de perfume bottle of Lauren. I am a reseller, so about a year ago I decided to look on eBay to see if it was of value and found that it was. I am an honest seller, describing my items accurately for obvious reasons, and so I was honest about the fact that the scent no longer smells like it did in the '80s, but that it does still retain some scent (the bottle is nearly full, and I got it for a gift in the '80s because it was my favorite). It sold fairly quickly. However, when the person received it she emailed me complaining that the scent was bad. I pointed out to her the description saying that it does not smell like it did originally, but she was unhappy so I reluctantly accepted its return. How could a perfume that's nearly 40 years old possibly smell like it did when it was new? This seems highly unlikely. So my question: Are people buying these believing they're going to smell as good as they did new, are they buying them with the intent to wear perfume that has turned, or are they just buying the bottle? Your answer to this question will help me decide if I'm going to bother relisting it. Thank you in advance for your help!

One of my favorite perfumes is Midnight in Paris by Van Cleef and Arpels - the jeweler. Well, they had the nerve to stop making it, and now my half-full bottle of MiP, that I bought new for around 25 bucks, is worth several times that. I'd have to lose my head to sell it though since I love it so much lol.

I remember taking my baby-sitting $$$ and buying my mom Evening in Paris (at Woolworth's) for Christmas. Also, in my neighborhood, several girl friends made a pact that we would chip in and buy a bottle of Shalimar perfume on the sixteenth birthday for any in our group. I still have my original bottle :)

But I do have a lot of the miniature perfumes. Are they worth anything or worth collecting? I keep them in a cabinet because they look so pretty. I worked in the fragance business for 20 years. As sellers working for the the companies and not the stores they gave you free bottles all the time, I have an extensive collection as we use to trade each other (in the business) and not only do I have the large bottles but I have what are called minitures, I have a ton of those. I have those in a curio cabinet. I wonder if you ever made a video about the minis. Also I have a whole bunch of channel 19...(I hate that scent) make me an offer. Full size bottles

I had a couple 1940's atomizer bottles that had separate tops (the main bottle had a screw top) where the rubber had seriously deteriorated on the attomizer. top I threw them out. Now I'm wondering if I made a big mistake. I still have the (full) main bottle.

Really appreciate your historical background of items when talking about them. I find I am having an easier time looking at an object for value when applying this logic as a first step.

I'm like you I've wore Chanel No.5 for over 40 years and love it in fact that's the only perfume I've wore because for some reason some fragrance gets stronger on me the longer I have it on. My question is since the bottle hasn't changed in so long how can you tell if it is old or a new one?

I love your show. Your vast knowledge about practically everything is absolutely mind boggling. I would like to know how I go about having you look at two 10 cm X12 cm pictures. I have spent hours on the internet trying to find out what they might be but the only thing I have found out is that they were framed by a company called Phillips that opened in 1907 in Toronto and closed in 1962. I believe they are in the original frames. I have no idea what drew me to them but they just said buy me. I paid about 1.50 USD for each of them.

Beginning in 1935 until 1960 my mother started collecting “tiny”, medium, perfume bottles (one a lamp, a telephone, lady with skirt) but are sitting in a China cabinet in the sun 😢 & some have that gold trim & that cut “real crystal” but have no way to even begin to know what worth, which are to far gone. Wish ppl understood how sun, humidity effects glass objects. Ty.

My mother has over 1000+ Avon bottles that she has collected over the years. I am now cleaning them out of her house and getting ready to sell them on Ebay because I do not know what else to do with them. I do know that with restrictions on shipping liquids through USPS can be problematic so I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and dump the perfume out? I would say that the majority of the perfumes are at least over 40 to 50 years old and honestly smell awful to me. Does it reduce the value of the bottles without the perfume? Sorry.....the bottle says Tiffany on the bottom. The bottle is about 4 inches tall....what I always loved about the bottle was it's covered with gold metal and a great gold lid... Is it unusal or worth any thing ??? I really enjoy watching you on u tube...
