My kids and I really enjoy your channel. My twelve year old found a .925 sterling silver necklace for $3 at the thrift store on Saturday. She was so pleased with her find!
Can't wait! I have a few Native American pieces from Ortega's on the Plaza that I'd love to know the value of....I have to hurry up and get things organized so I can get some appraisals done!
I had a piece that was marked 925 , and was marked with the British silver mark and the mark for the Caribbean! It was an Olympic medal, I found for a quarter in a grab bag and sold for over a hundred !
THAT was a truly helpful lecture on silver. Thanks so much! While I enjoy your other videos with guests, this was a nice deep dive into one subject. Hope you can make more of these kinds of videos in the future. Thanks!
Dr. Lori I Love you. You preach jewelry fantastically I found a what look to be like a gold bracelet at a second hand store I took out my loop and looked inside no makers mark anywhere but then I looked on the class just like you just said in your video sure enough it said 585 which everybody knows is 14 carat I paid a whopping $5.95 for that item it weighs 5.9 G and I was awfully happy to pay that for it. I love hunting for jewelry.
I bought my 12 year old treasure hunters loupes for their birthday. I made them watch this video with me! Good thing is all the nice sterling we find will be mine!
Very Informative, but sheesh....she scares me. I feel as though I'm on trouble and being yelled at...she would be a good cop, or principle, or stern mother you wouldnt want to piss off. 😳
Dr Lori and staff: this was a great information packed video. Lots of refresher info for me and a little new too! My oddest place to find the fineness mark of a piece was inside the bail! I had looked and looked for at least an hour. I knew that it was too nice of a locket to be costume: the pattern on the heart was engraved not stamped or molded in. So as a hail Mary I did a google search and by chance found one like it online. I looked at the photos and one showed the purity mark inside the bail, which is also where I found it on mine. That little locket was 18 K white gold. Im very glad I found that mark so that when I did sell it I could show the buyer the proof!
I’ve been buying costume pieces Ben Amun, Weiss haven’t paid over $20 mostly about $10 for anything . I figure they have to be worth more then that. I also have Avon pins from late 70’ early 80’s when I sold Avon. Are they collectible?
I answer many questions. I may refer to another video because I know some viewers may not have seen that video and they want the question answered too or I may not have the objects with me to fully answer the question with visuals which I know are shown in the other video. If I am going to answer the question, I want to give the best answer I can with visuals. If that best answer happens to be in a video, that's why I am referring viewers to that video.
Ooo I like the San Marco. I don’t have one of those. Thank you Dr Lori you made my thrifting experience awesome. Quick story: When I was a kid I remember my mom wearing jewelry and it always shined. When I turned 16 she brought me my first sterling silver bracelet and I was so happy. Now, I’m 46 and have 100 pieces of sterling silver. I give my family silver for gifts and I have kinda made it a family thing. The cool thing is 90% of my silver came from the thrift store. Every time I find a new piece I feel the same way when my mom gave me my first bracelet. HYPE. 😆
Just because the clasp says gold or silver, does not mean the entire piece is real gold or silver. I found that out, the hard way. Paid for silver, only the clasp was real...
Thanks you! Mother in law cleaned out some of her jewelry and passed down lots of Mexico (Texaco?) silver pieces she collected from her own teenage years in Southern California. I actually thought some of them weren’t marked but looked more carefully with your jewelry loupe and found them! Learning so much and passing that knowledge on to my little nugget. Thanks again!
I have a bracelet that I have not been able to identify as far as the pictogram and the one I have has A rams head I’m not sure haven’t been able to find anything on it to identify the maker
Thank you Dr. Lori. GOD Bless you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. You have a GOD GIVEN TALENT 🙏 and I LOVE when you assist others to evaluate whatever item that was brought in or found. I've had the pleasure of seeing you on The Curse of Oak Island and in Georgia at Studio 63 auctions. Your endless supply of knowledge is AMAZING 🙏🤗 Thanks again for sharing. It's greatly appreciated.🙏❤️
@@DrLoriV Absolutely 🤗 I certainly will. I just wish my husband Angel Eyes was here to enjoy seeing you ( we saw you together on The Curse of Oak Island and at the auction in Georgia) but GOD needed him more 🙏 so now he has his Angel Wing's 😇🙏 We talked about your knowledge on so many different things long after seeing you on whichever show. We didn't watch regular tv but show's that we could learn from and some with differing ideas of how Earth came to be or how we came to be. There were some really funny moments with some of the ideas..LOL And we also loved archeology which is why The Curse of Oak Island is part of the reason it is such a great program,a BLESSING at least to me 🙏 I learn history that wasn't covered in school and see objects that I (and my husband) would wonder how in the world did the people make that when they didn't have tools like now!! And to be able to touch them, WOW!! I'm sorry for such a lengthy response but I really wanted to know YOU were and are a BLESSING and APPRECIATED and I just wish I could have had YOU for a teacher in school. LOL. But I get to learn from you via wherever you show up and it's ALWAYS A BLESSING 🙏 Thanks again Dr. Lori and I will definitely be sharing ❤️🙏 MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY NOW AND ALWAYS 🙏
You're Laurie. I have a question for you, I have a charm from Germany. I'm told that is from early 1900 or before and it is marked point 99 ni got. This about 2530 years ago and I was only charged like $8. It's a shoe which I'm assuming. Was a charm for a cobbler or a cobbler's wife. I love the piece.I'm happy with it, but is it true? What I was told about the point 99 that that was only used in germany and around nineteen hundred or before
Thank you Dr. Lori -- I really enjoyed your video. I wonder, is a magnet is a good way to check for silver content? Also, I have a navajo made ring that is silver and turquoise stamped STER and just learned this is the same as .925. Do you have any comments on that?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Downloaded this video for future reference. Enjoyed it immensely, so much information in a clear and understandable presentation! So very helpful. I'm just a hobbyist collector. Maybe one day I'll be willing to share my hoard of treasures.... Probably not today though but so nice to know more about what I have. Any helpful sources of references for the different markings?
I found a ring that only says "950". I am not sure if it is sterling or platinum. I took it into a pawn shop and they said it was platinum, and then I took it into another shop and they said it was silver. How can I tell the difference?
I can help identify and value your ring. To send me photos of it, use the form on my website at www.drloriv.com/find-values/online/online-appraisal-form/
Hello, first time at your channel. I'm a polymer clay artist. I have got a question and I know it may sound a silly one. I will incorporate sterling silver in my polymer clay jewelry. Polymer clay cures in the kitchen oven at 130° - 175° Celsius degrees depending on the brand. And usually I cover my creations with baking paper while being cured in the oven. If sterling silver is part of the whole design and I have to put it in the oven (NOT MICROWAVE) together with the polymer clay at the temperature 130°-175°, will this cause any problem? Thank you in advance for your help.
You are a hell of a great teacher! I’m just getting interested in antiques and vintage. I bought your recommended loupe and have been watching your videos incessantly! I’m a 75 year old woman. I’m going to Egypt and Israel next week and am wondering what I should buy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Kathy

Dr Lori helped me out on a video call with my silver. My Old Pawn necklace marking had worn out. I highly recommend a video call with Dr Lori. One smart cookie 🍪
I come across a candlabra, the hallmarks are Sterling, New York, 81 1/2S and some Starr maker.... does that mean the whole thing is solid sterling but lower grade than 925? First time getting one so I never seen it before : )
Need to see it to verify what you really have. Send me photos at www.drloriv.com/find-values/online/online-appraisal-form/ or schedule a video call at www.drloriv.com/find-values/from-your-video-call/. See how on my website.
Hello, Dr. Lori, good video! Do you know any information on artist: Carl Smith-sketch of old St. Luke Church, D.Gribble- watercolors paints, Amil Buntes-sketch of the Old Bishop Palace, Liz Rogers-Sparking Pepsi watercolor drawing?
What does a date indicate? Example: “Pat January 10 1863”. With hallmarks of Frank Wallace, pre Gorham. ?? Have spent a few years trying to figure this out - happy to have found you!
You recommend that jewelry box and then a link to your website showed up but when I went there I for shop my affiliate links or anything. And it's like perfect timing for me because I was just wanting to buy some mobile and here you are telling us about the best one and I trust your judgment. So can you put a link in your description boxes straight to the jewelry box?

I found a beautiful 80s-90s that looks like silver and is marked 925 BUT I think a coating is coming off and it looks more red. WTH? Do you find the 925 being abused?
I bought a moissanite ring with 4 bands. The original price says $756 got it for $456. It says it’s sterling silver on site but there’s no 925 on it. Instead there’s an AG750 on each band and the ring color is silver. What does it mean? Thanks
I know this isn't subject, and I'm late. Recently bought a rug Turkish rug. Have a tag from distributor. Can you look at the tag and tell me how I can find out more information.
Very helpful. I have the loop but still have a terrible time finding marks. 👀 I did find a Lisner mark but cannot remember if it was the brooch & earrings (your favorite, I know) or my set of 3 pieces? Duh. I definitely need your help. Working on that video call. Thanks for your time!😁
Hi Dr Lori! I just saw your video and i recently bought a bracelet from the thrift store. It say 950 and it looks like it might be sterling silver! But it looks a little yellow could that be something of value that i have. It only say 950 no mark or name.
I have a problem. I bought a supposed solid sterling silver necklace however, the necklace passed the magnet test on the chain but not the clasp. It's stamped Italy has a stamp on the clasp with a circle and x inside. I don't have a loop the check for 925. If the clasp isn't 925 but the necklace is can the company still sale it as solid 925? I'm highly allergic the nickel so I have to make sure. Also, will rhodium plating pass the magnet test if the chain is not sterling silver?
You need the loupe to check the metal marks. Yes, be sure before you wear a metal that may spark your allergy. Pieces should be marked properly ... depends on the company if they are.
I have these son Marcus bracelet is sterling silver and I'm looking for the necklace I had them in 14 karat gold but they stole the whole set I was so depressed but I found a Marcus bracelet but it's in silver
Thank you for a great video--as usual!!! When you showed the necklace with 925 on clasp (San Marco?), it reminded me of a bracelet I bought in a lot. It had the tiny 925 as well, and the clasp was not magnetic, but the rest of the necklace was magnetic. No maker's mark. Can the 925 sometimes mean silver plated? It can be so misleading:( Looking forward to your next video:)
I have some nice bracelets, chains, rings that say 925 or sterling silver, but they don't tarnish, what keeps them from tarnishing? And then I have pieces that have the same mark as the others and they begin to tarnish after one or two days of wearing them, why?
People use my online appraisal reports to help them sell. The reports include a location where a similar piece sold and for how much. This helps answer your question for a specific item. One person used my report to help them sell a plate for over $1,000. They bought the plate at a yard sale for $1.
I have a couple necklaces with a hang tag that looks like a dog head (Terrier maybe) and a bone 🦴 under it. Very reminiscent of the 80’s and what I wore in high school. Enamel appearance and hearts! Still searching for info ❤️
