How To Very Easily FIX A BROKEN SPARK PLUG WIRE!!
In this video I fix a broken spark plug wire on my 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. I decided to check the condition of my spark plugs and got through two on the passenger side just fine. When I went over to the driver side the first plug I pulled broke. So, instead of dropping $100 dollars to buy a new set I decided to fix it.

Thanks so much! I'm used to stripping and soldering wires but that is not what is needed here! That conductor wire is so tiny you can't strip it out of the black covering. My plug had pulled off my coil wire (copper plug sticking in the coil) and it's a prestolite on an old boat and the auto shops don't seem to carry it. Mine broke just like yours, leaving some black silicone inside the copper part. Your video saved me! I just cut more insulation off the big outside and folded back the tiny black covered wire under the connector like you showed. Got it clamped back together. It's running great.

My Jeep Wrangler #6 spark plug wire kept popping off whenever I'd hit a good bump. Pulled over on the freeway as I was half way to picking up my wife from the airport. Took Super Glue I had in the glove box and put a few drops around the rubber boot and popped it back on the spark plug. Been running good for a week, lol. I did order a new set of wires and have the tools in the Jeep to fix it should it break while driving and of course have a roll of Duck Tape...... Thank you for the informative video, added a pair of needle nose to my emergency kit, lol

I 👍ed because I enjoyed it 'at least just a little bit'! I've spent a coupla days trying to fix a strimmer. Seen all the videos. Turns out there is something wrong inside the 6" ( ?) of ht wire. It's moulded into the coil, which are cheap enough but a) the principle of the thing, b) month by slowboat from China. Looking at doing a splice but didn't realise how THIN the one strand of wire is inside, and DELICATE! Even your one has its own private insulation!

Done this many times in the past minus the grease. One time a repair shop claimed they had to replace a bad plug wire and replaced it with one with a plastic boot that ended up cracking my spark plug in half. Had to buy a new spark plug and I replaced their plastic boot with a rubber one from an old set. Yeah they replaced a wire from an almost brand new set.

awesome vid , probably it'll work for my motorcycle , i made the mistake twice, technically a 12 v whatever should be ok BUT it fries the starter solenoid i can get used or aftermarket cheap, so next i have old carbs i clean over and over , this time spotless mostly BUT i find two funky spark plug wires (big 4 cylinder) so i realize the messed up running has been a short and not running probably the both wires same time but i think it'll get me rolling fast/lol i saw the vid a while back but i went legally blind a spell , very depressing and aging i guess anyway i got projects all over now i can see but i'm out of shape from the ordeal still , it's been awesome though i had faith and learned alot about the temp state but man imagine i'm 40's , 75-80 year olds pull rvs, boats still i felt old a moment /ranting thanks for the vid i'll try to update if it works for me, i think i have to buy two entire coils used to get the boot and maybe i should study aftermarket , it's good to learn to test the coils too (i'd need to look up ...i have a pilot valve driving me nuts , the idle jet breaks and the carbs are as much as a lower mileage motor but with no carb rack or airbox needed for correct performance if i went back from slide valves ......

I am not sure if it is ok to use this as a permanent fix. I had to do this and it worked well. But don't forget that by shortening your spark plug wire, you will also lower the resistance. A lower resistance means that more current is generated, which in my case seems to have killed my ignition coil.

Any sugggestions for divorcing the crimp from the plug? They’re not rusted or corroded but they are freaking married for eternity haha. I have the spark plug pliers, have tried twisting the wire and the spring coil, I’ve tried turning it in a wide circle, but so far the only way to get it is to eventually tear the rubber part, pull the coil, then pull off the crimp from the plug

The factory assembled part failed and so once you re-do it, it will fail again! The only way to avoid failure is to pull the boot back on brand new leads, apply some super glue and put the boot back in place. Wait 12 hours and then install. They’ll never ever fail!

I pulled enough computer, telephone, speaker, and coaxial cable to go to the moon and back to Earth ten times in my lifetime. Some of it went into conduit and some of those conduit runs were maxed out to their limits that would fit inside. When that happened, or long before anything close, we lubed the cable as it fed into the conduit. Not the same as spark plug wire jacket, but still probably has the same issues, not certain. NEVER, EVER, does anyone who pulls wire for a living, from electricians to computer cable installers, never do we use a petroleum product to lube cable/wire. I mean never. If you buy it from electrical supply house, it's nicknamed "snot". It's wire pulling compound. Kind of thick and slimy. But if you need to do this in a pinch without any snot or time to run to a supply house to obtain some, there is a commonly available substitute. We use dish soap. Palmalive, Dawn, etc. It slicks up wires and makes them slide. Why NEVER do you use petroleum products? Because the petroleum product and the insulation on the cable are both petroleum products. The oil will eat or soften the insulation on the cable. Won't show up until some time passes, but you'll wish you never did that, I bet. Never did, myself, nor saw anyone do that. You just don't lube electrical cabling with petroleum products, period. Dialectric grease is still grease? To be on the safe side, and I always try and avoid adding more trouble to trouble I already have, I would advise you to use dish soap to lube the spark plug wires when sliding on or off the rubber boots. I could be mistaken, but it wouldn't hurt to use soap and avoid the potential of making yourself a problem down the line using Dielectric grease. I always use dish soap, myself. Just some friendly advice.
