What is the part number for the ABS ring you used? I’m about to order a pair of 9N hubs and the Epytec adapter ring. Do you have to take the current one off before fitting the Epytec one?
Hi. Sorry, but google is my friend. Looking at the link, I have a question about the part. At 4:50, I am interested in the size of the part. Thanks for the reply! Thomas
I bought a Golf mk3 VR6 rear beam today with the stub axle and break carrier, no brake calipers, no disc brakes, no inner & outer bearing, etc... (I'll mount it on my mk2 Golf btw) Next to it I found a Polo mk3 GTI (6N2) rear suspension with just the brake calipers missing. As I looked closely, it's the version where you can bolt on directly a brake carrier without a need for an adapter like you use. I think the OEM numbers are 6N0 501 117 and 6N0 501 118. Do you think it will bolt on the mk3 rear beam? if so, which disc brakes & caliper & carrier combination will work on it? I'll buy it next time if so. Or I'll just bet on it and buy it and will look for disc/caliper/carrier combination later 😂and share here the results (might take some time though)
@@ceciliosalmeron2371 there are offset differences so you can't put mk4 r32 rear discs and calipers like he does. However you can fit Polo 6N2 gti stub axles with Polo 9n hub & bearing to get 5x100 since the 6N2 are 4x100. Beware of brake discs since there are two types 232mm and 230mm with different offset (9n and mk4 ones are pretty similar). you need the 232mm one (1JE 615 601 or Ate 24.0109-0174.1 409174). You can reuse the 6n2 brake carriers (maybe the mk2/mk3 ones too but I can't say). You can use the mk4 brake calipers with corresponding mk4 brake cable + adaptation. Those are in-depth investigations I've done about this topic at that time. I didn't try fitting them yet since I paused the project and didn't buy the polo 9n brakes & hub + bearing + mk4 brake discs, but I've bought the polo 6N2 gti stub axles with brake carriers though. But I spent quite some time making calculation of the brake discs sizes and offset on ATE website and I came to those conclusions. TL;DR you need to double check my claims
You say TT rear calliper but what age? I have bought a Jetta and read brakes look identical to this and I have been struggling to figure out what calliper is on it to replace (sticking)
I think I say in the video all mk4 platform cars, mk1 TT, Seat Leon cupra R, Audi s3 Golf mk4 R32 and 2.8 V6 as well as maybe the odd Skoda. mk4 platform
Hello mate I am currently in the process of doing this conversion on my mk3 golf vr6...I have got all the parts...the only thing that I'm struggling with is....how do u put the abs adapter ring onto the hub??
@catana bogdan hello mate I actually completed this conversion on my vr6 a few weeks ago....so basically what u have to do is order mk3 abs ring adapter from epytec...the ones that you have on the polo rear hubs..Will bang off with a chisel and hammer....and then u lightly bang the eptec adapter ring onto the hub and then put the abs ring on...I hope that helps
@@rcboyztoyz6804hi, do you have a link or part number for the ABS ring and hub you got? And when you took the old ring off the hub was it a pain in the ass?
@joeboycott147 hello mate....it was little while ago.....as far as I can remember the abs rings weren't that hard to take of...they just hammered off with a chisel....
4x100 front disk from VW UP! Has same specs as rear r32 disks in 4x100 bolt pattern, therefore can be used in this conversion. VW P/N for disks is 1S0615301
With 312's it wouldn't be too different over a std mk4 platform cars running 312 front and 256 rear, it become's more of an issue on lighter cars like at the rear of mk2's with no ABS and people not setting and adjusting the rear bias valve spring tension on the rear beam right. On this mk3.5 with 312 front, 256 rear, ABS and a half decent set of 205 tyres brake so so well.
@@RestoDesignsnando you can use polo 6n2 6n3 gti stub axel this ones have mounting holes for the stock rear calipers you only need some adapters foor the s3 calipers then but you can buy these by epytec in germany. you keep the stock track wide this way.
@@rkstuntz5278 Very turn, unfortunately those are almost imposable to find second hand and VW discontinued them years ago. They also came on the Seat Ibiza 6k2 cupra 1.8T 20V
@@rkstuntz5278 can you elaborate on which adapters are needed because I already have Ibiza stub axels. Edit: I believe I found adapters on epytec but that set up requires W8 Passat caliper carriers.
Hi there, do you mean the bias valve that it near the rear beam? If you have ABS then no need to, but otherwise yes you make a good point, due to the better braking you may need to adjust the valve if the rear brakes start locking up.
@@mechanicalmanny494 There will be a spring type thing that connects the rear beam to the valve, It will be held in place with a 13mm nut & bolt, you loosen that and you'll be able to adjust the amount it moves which adjusts the brake pressure going to the rear brakes.
@@RestoDesignsnando hi again I have the same calipers you taken off mk4 aluminium vented type plan is to get some cupra r rear carriers and m12 bolts to widen it to fit vented like in your video great swap
Hello Resto Designs, I am trying to locate the parts but all I find for the Polos and Ibizas as you mention are different in appearance. I have a 1997 MK3-VR6 and I have an issue with the stub axle. Got one form an Ibiza 6L with the only issue that the ABS sensor does not fit .... Can you please share the part-numbers for the stub axle on the video? Many thanks Also, can you share your facebook link? The one I get on here sends me to a place in Portugal. Is that you?
@@janne3639 I have a 1997 3dr VR6 and I have installed the brembo 323mm fronts and now am about to do the rears. After my plan is to do headwork and cams and have a street/track car. Send me some pics of your car korsou@hotmail.com please. What are your plans for it?
If I wanted to add vented to the rear of my mk3 Gti (more for show than anything else) is it as simple as removing the disc/bearing and replacing it with a TT hub? And replacing the callipers discs pads and carriers? Oh and maybe shaving the dust guard? Or will I need to do the stubs as well?
You'll need a way to bolt on the calliper carries as on the mk4 platform cars they bolt on to the rear beam/arms if it's 4x4. That is why you need plates like these ones.
@@RestoDesignsnando any idea when will they be back in stock? Also do you know will the break lines (both flexi and steel the one pices ones ) off a 3.5 will be a direct fit onto a mk3 axle and the rear axle flexis thanks
Hi sorry about the late reply, hopefully in the new year. The mk3.5 rear axle is the same as the mk3 one, so the hard lines & flex ones are plug n play.
@@RestoDesignsnando perfect I found your fb page I'll drop ya a mail on there so when the adapter kit is in stock you can give me a shout straight away thanks if that's cool with you
I ended up getting my kit from creation motor sport, you if you have abs you will also need adaptors not shown in the video to mount your abs rings onto the hubs. I got Mine from epytec. (I think they do the disc kit too)
Just use the Polo 6N2 4 lug bearing, but you'll have to de drill the discs, or try your luck with a set of 256mm front discs, but I think the disc offset is different.
If it's a mk3 GTI 16V VR6 then no the standard 23.5mm is ok, if it's a lower spec mk2 with a 7" servo and 18mm master then yes upgrade to a 9" servo and 22mm or 23.5mm master cylinder.
Reason I ask is, I’m building a corrado with 312mm brakes at the front snd standard 239mm in the rear and I’m wondering what servo and master cylinder to use
@@stevenharpervw OK this mk3.5 cab also has 312's up front, servo and master (23.5mm) are standard with ABS and works really really well, I think most Rado's are 22mm unless it's a late VR6 with ABS then it'll most likely have a 23.5 one as std.
