A note of caution using so much vinegar in your washing machine - vinegar can eat / destroy rubber seals like in the drain pump and washing machine seals! Good idea to do a 'normal' load of laundry after those using vinegar.

@@homemakingwithdenise thank you for the video! It helpd me a lot! Also, I hope I can give you a tip also: I remember that my grandmother always ironed and gave a short steam to all laundry, even to underpants and socks. I remember asking her why she did this and she said that ironing and steaming would kill all remaning bacteria and fungi, clothes and garments would smell great for a long time and also wouldn t smell as bad when they get dirty. I started to use my granny s tip also and I think she was right. I hope it s not my biased oppinion 😬 P. S. The laundry which you are not allowed to iron, I give them a good steam.. Take care, you are a wonderful person!

What do you think about putting vinegar in fabric softener? I also just put a rolled up Tin foil in a sock so as not to scratch the dryer and it worked! My husband’s a mechanic and it’s kinda like my life long journey to get his clothes clean. Sometimes you just have to throw them out and start over. I’ve tried everything. We have speed queen top of line and it doesn’t matter.

Any tips on how to wash dusty clothes? Our backyard is loose dirt so my husband's clothes are dusty all. the. time. He sprays off with the air compressor before he comes inside, but that doesn't do anything it seems. We have a top loader so after I do one load, there is a bunch of dried dirt at the bottom of the bucket. I do two loads, the first load with pre soak. I think they're clean so I put them in the drier with drier sheets but the white drier sheets come out light brown! I am stuck on what to try! Any advice would be very helpful!

I’m glad I found your channel! All of my roommate’s clothes look like this or worse, leaving the washer stinky and greasy, transferring onto my laundry. I try to do his laundry when he’ll let me because he won’t pre-treat, he doesn’t even sort them, just scoops everything up and drops it in the wash without checking pockets/unraveling socks, etc.😅 I just woke up to him doing laundry, so I’ll have to try and clean out the washer again before I can do a load of my clothes. Any suggestions that might help my situation with the dirty washer? This house smells like a garage since he started a never-ending motorbike project. He wears through 5 outfits a day. This is just laundry talk lol Cleaning up after him is a full-time job 🤦‍♀️🤣 Thank you again!

Is there anyway to remove stains once they’ve set from the dryer? I have issues with little annoying grease stains on my clothes, my husbands work shirts too! I’m washing my first load now and I wish I watched this prior but not to freight! I’ve got some vinegar. I added baking soda “ soil love” stain remover, really good stuff and it’s only 1 dollar! And I used tide. I had them on pre wash but turned that off so they can soak. I’m looking forward to trying this method. Thank you so much for sharing & I just loved the cuteness of you & hubby when you were folding his jeans. Goals! We’ve been together our whole twenties so far 🙏🏽

Hi Denise, I'm a bachelor & I have to do my own washing. I pretreat my stains with Dawn & use a little table salt mixed in to agitate & scrub. I had no problems with that but, do you think that maybe to harsh on my work clothes? TIA.
@homemakingwithdenise
@homemakingwithdenise 2 года назад
Hi Saturday Sailor. I think the pretreating of stains with Dawn is great. That will certainly get them out. Rubbing with the salt might be a bit aggressive. I'd probably put the salt in the wash water or the soak water. It will help to keep the color in your clothing from fading. I've not heard one could use the salt as a scrub on clothing. Salt scrubs are great for exfoliation. The question is will it remove layers of fibers off your clothing. I'd rather a more gentle approach. Use the Dawn or use a combination of Dawn and vinegar as a stain remover and give it a good scrub but for daily care, use a mild to moderate laundry detergent. If the clothing is heavily soiled, like work clothes can be, try soaking them first and then a good wash on a vigorous wash cycle and a more heavy duty laundry detergent. Let me know if this helps.

Thank you so much for the info. My husband’s clothes are disgusting. In my experience, the excessive wear around the pockets are from them putting stuff in their pockets all day. He works on lawn mower and such. So, no leaning over cars or trucks as in the past and the material around the pockets wear out first.

@homemakingwithdenise
@homemakingwithdenise 4 года назад
Hi Sybil, thank you so much for stopping by. Good question. You could use Borax or Oxiclean...I do that sometimes but for this load, I wanted to use my homemade stain fighter of water, Dawn dish washing liquid, and vinegar. It's cost effective and works. I will use the Borax or OxiClean White Revive on white shirts and other garments. People have been asking for more natural products so I thought I'd give them that. In the case of soaking with Borax or OxiClean, I'd make a paste with the powder, pretreat the really bad areas, and then soak.

My washer is a plain Jane. I don’t have all of the fancy settings like yours. So what does someone with a plain Jane washer do? I got confused on the wash with vinegar, then wash with detergent. Do I let my washer completely wash with vinegar from beginning to end then start washer over and wash with detergent from beginning to end? I also don’t have a compartment to put my vinegar like you do. Can I pour the vinegar directly on top of the clothes? Also does the brand of detergent matter? Please help!!! My husband is a mechanic and you should see his clothes. If I scrubbed every stain I would be scrubbing for an hour.
@echoedinnocence
@echoedinnocence 2 года назад
The vinegar acts like a fabric softener. So wash your load on a regular wash and put the vinegar where you would the fabric softener. If you don't have a compartment for the fabric softener, you can buy a "downy ball" on Amazon and put the vinegar in the ball instead. Then once the load is done, then wash with regular detergent. Purcell is a good one to use for detergent. Hope this helps.

My granddaughter went to a public school that used shredded tires for the surface of the playground. When it rained the teachers still sent them outside and they got black stains all over their clothes. I’ve tried tons of different things and nothing has worked to remove it. I can’t tell you how many times I missed a Kleenex in my husband’s pockets, oh what a mess. He would fold them up in a tiny little square and sometimes I missed them. But back to the black rubber and dirt mix. We have several pretty pastel pieces of clothing that are ruined.

You can also get cleaning vinegar at Lowe's or Menard's and it will work just as well. Persil you can order on line or get it at Kroger or Walmart. I’m very curious to know if the clothes smell like vinegar after all of this?
@Kiki-uu6pc
@Kiki-uu6pc 2 года назад
Once they have dried in the sun - any smell that may have remained is gone.

So are you running the same clothes in the washer 3 times?
@homemakingwithdenise
@homemakingwithdenise 3 года назад
Yes and no. These were run on the pre-wash cycle which moved to a soak cycle and then I let it sit overnight. Next, I washed them with vinegar in the wash or detergent bin. this is to remove any residual odors and helps get rid of the whatever is left from the soak cycle. Then wash as usual with vinegar in the fabric softener bin. Now...you may think this is a bit much but if you are struggling with dirty work clothes, it works. Your other options are to have the residual odor or send them to a laundry service to get them cleaned professionally. Or of course, buy new clothing. You decide what is best for your family.

Most likely white vinegar. It's normally used in cleaning mixtures.

My biggest challenge: grease, hydraulic fluid Husband wears khaki jeans and white shirts while working on heavy equipment. HE washers just don’t seem to be doing it and it’s so expensive to keep buying more when they get too stained.

One thing I’ve found is to not let them get too far gone, when I’m at work and get lots of grease from the gun on my pants I’ll scrub it that night

The smell. I work around oil and grease and my clothes stink even after I wash them. I’ve tried stripping them in the tub and it worked but still didn’t get the smell out.

I just put my work jeans and shirts in the wash and the machine wouldn’t go past “wash” and the water wouldn’t rinse.... do you think my greasy clothes ruined my moms machine?
@homemakingwithdenise
@homemakingwithdenise 3 года назад
Hmmmm. I'm not sure what’s going on but you putting in a load of clothing should not break the machine. Try to trouble shoot it. Is the load too large and heavy? Take half the clothes out and see what happens. Shut it off then restart and see what happens. If that doesn’t work, something is going on that shouldn’t have anything to do with you throwing a load in to wash. You may need to call in a repairman if these things don’t work. Oh...try to Google the problem. Look up your brand of machine and see if there are any suggestions on what to do. If you can’t find any that work, call a repairman. Keep me posted as to what’s what.

My daughter rides horses with a drill team. Their practice uniform is white jeans and white shirt. They get super dirty “brown” with dirt. My husband spends an hour scrubbing them with nafta soap, oxi-clean, Clorox, and rinses with vinegar and washes them a few times and then hangs them in the sun. I have carpal tunnel, so I can’t do it myself. He has been doing this for 9 years. I was wondering if there is any tips you can give us that would cut down on the hours spent cleaning these every week. They are required to be clean and white. Thank you, I’m so glAd I found your channel, you are a treasure!
