And thus ends our leathercrafting journey together! Go now, and craft on!
This was a lot of fun as a change, but I for one am ready to get back into making costumes and outfits. Like I said in the video, if you've made something along with me (especially a costrel) please show me!

This whole series is so cool. I want to make one now lol. Might actually get me into leather working instead of just watching you do it. 😂

Thanks for the kind words! I wanted this series to be something approachable that you could make along with me, so let me know if you do end up making one yourself 😁

Ahhh! I haven't seen one of your videos in forever, and what a coincidence that I recently started leather craft!

One day I'll have the space to actually make one of these T.T Anyway after the Wax Fun and the Messy I'd say that choice of word was very fitting--

Yeah, a non-zero amount of my apartment is dedicated to my leathercraft, and I still need to take over the kitchen lol. And thankyou, I'm glad that my juvenile jokes landed well 😌

Just to follow on from my last message.....tried this technique, don't have a heat gun so used my Sassenach Sue's hair dryer on full blast. Together with warming the canteen up in the oven then using the hair dryer, and the double boiler, this worked a treat. The first bottle looks way better. In the process of doing the second one, then i'll try it on one my Sue bought for me and seal that. really helpful video, so again, thank you for sharing.

My pleasure! I'm really glad that this was able to help you; I had similar problems with my first costrel attempt years ago so thought I'd pass on my tricks. Thanks for sharing that it all worked, I'm glad the heat gun had enough oomph!

@@Cxizent The second one went great too, so pleased with the results. they looked messy round the stitch lines on the outside before, but now they are sealed all over and no messy stitching. They are all ready for my next Jacobite style hike on camera. Will use this tip whenever I make a costrel now. Going to follow your costrel series when I get some more leather and will do a link to your videos, if that's alright. Really more helpful than you know. Thank you again for sharing. Davey.

Thankyou so much! Up next is getting back into making costume pieces, I've got a couple of things half made in my study at the moment that I can't wait to show off

Very useful video, thank you for sharing. I made some leather canteens, but the previous videos never mentioned anything about putting them in the over to impregnate the leather, so they don't look too tidy. Going to use your technique and see if that sorts the bottles out. The double-boiler, think that will help no end. Thank you again. Kindest regards, Davey.

Double boiler and oven... you mean microwave and heat gun right? I have also been known to stab a lump of beeswax with a fork and just use the heat gun. I miss making armour.

I thought I'd try to show the "proper" way to do things before getting my heat gun out lol. It is seriously awkward to break off a chunk of beeswax

Why wouldn't you waterproof the leather before you stitch it together?
@Cxizent
@Cxizent 6 месяцев назад
Food question! Several answers: 1) The leather is HARD after water proofing, so you can't really shape it or stitch it easily B) The leather needs to be wet formed before it's water proofed, and that's much easier to do when it's all in one piece, and finally iii) You want to waterproof the seam, too! If you waterproofed two pieces of leather and then just stuck them together, the seam would leak

Or my favourite hobby: pretend I'm gonna take up a new hobby and watch people do Saudi craft repeatedly with no real plans to take it up
