Epic Kites, a family owned company, began with two simple, but extraordinary goals.
The wing craze has taken the kiteboarding industry by storm, and we’re excited by the versatility this new sport offers. Winging has deep roots in windsurfing, kiteboarding and foil boarding. We’ve taken great care in designing, developing and testing the EPICWING. In creating the design brief for the EPICWING, Dimitri Maramenides drew from the knowledge of his 22-year windsurfing career. This vast experience in windsurfing and kiteboarding has given the EPICWING a very robust set of performance characteristics that the test team has been thrilled with. Our Australian based wing designer has been working tirelessly to ensure the very best performance. We’ve been testing the EPICWING in Australia, Europe and the U.S.A.
The EPICWING comes in 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7-meter sizes.
The wing has two long stiff grab handles on the strut for increased grip. This enables easy hand movement up and down the strut while always maintaining control. For easier water starts, we’ve included a soft handle mid strut. Additional handles closer to the leading edge offer stance and grip variety as the rider manipulates the wing. One tester recalls, “I just tried the 5 meter from brand x and then the Epic 5 meter and I just can’t believe the difference. It had so much power and stability. The water starts were super easy with just one pump I was up and riding on a foil. It’s also very easy on the arms”.
Another EPICWING tester excitedly claims, “I can’t believe how high I jumped in such light wind on the 7-meter. I might have to ask my wife to get me one for my birthday”. This, and other first hand accounts can be found in our testimonial video section.
“I was trying to do some tacks on my [competitors] wing and had a hard time. But as soon as I jumped on the 6-meter EPICWING, I was making my tacks 10 out of 10 times. The performance is just incredible. I am getting one this week,” commented another tester.
Clearly people have been impressed with how powerful the wing is, how user friendly it felt and that tapping into the depower felt extremely natural. Others commented on how well balance and full of energy if felt. But one thing they all spoke of was the fact that they wished they’d tried the EPICWING before making other purchases.
The wing itself has a powerful shape delivering smooth low end power. The shape is largely responsible for the stable and controlled performance in both overpowered and underpowered conditions. We use a medium aspect ratio to provide that grunt and it also keeps the tips of the wing from catching the water. Our entire wing is well built with generous protection in key areas to prevent damage.
Like all Epic products, careful attention has been paid to quality, durability and detail. This is critically important when manufacturing a balanced wing. A well balanced wing allows for a predicable and intuitive feel.
One of the most unique features of the EPICWING are the small transparent panels. These windows easily allow you to see where you’re going without obstruction. To give the perfect view, and provide maximum safety, the windows have been placed on the lower portion of the wing.
To make rigging quick and easy, you’ll find a large inflate/deflate valve on the leading edge. The one pump inflation system also has a large diameter deflate valve on the strut. All this gets you on the water faster, and makes pack down a breeze.

Don't forget to try the wing out on a big empty parking lot with a longboard skateboard, landboard, or Rollerblades!

As someone who is considering learning to wing, thanks for this - top tuition video as always👍The main attraction of winging for me (as a kitesurfer/foiler and windsurfer) is surfing swells whilst flagging out the wing. As confirmed in your video, waterstarting a small board looks pretty challenging in flat water but how the hell do you do it in waves!?

I am happy this video helped you. It took me 3 months to make it. Waterstarting on short boards is very easy if it's windy. I am working on a new HOW TO video that will show you exactly how to waterstart on a short board using the WindSurfing method. 👍

thanks Dimitri for this brilliant video ! After Windsurfing/Kitesurfing/Kitefoiling and a Corona hold back 2022 is going my Wingfoil kick off season. What I did understand today is, that I will be ending up with 2 boards as in my closer spots I do have both types of wind - low and gusty and strong and steady. To be honest, I did use a sinker windsurfboard in Capetown back in 2002/3 before Naish brought up a 6m Boxer to let me access high wind kiting. But the waterstart is so close to what my muscle memory still has filed that I´m already stoked to giving it a try. With 78-80 kg alive my choice is going 95 or 105 l for southern winds at Lake Garda together with a 6m wing - coming from Moses 633/Groove skate and mostly 8m in those conditions. If you´ve got any comments or advises I´d be pleased of course !! Have a good & healty season 2022 ! Jürgen

Jurgen, if you decide to get only one board then I would recommend to go with 85 to 95 liter board not bigger and use a bigger front wing foil in order to plane in 8 to 12 mph. Now if you decide to go with 2 boards which will be the best thing to do then I would recommend to get your light wind board to be (85 to 105 liter) board MAX and then get a smaller one to be (45 to 65 liter) board. Now if you leave in a place where the wind is around (12 to 20 mph) then a 75 liter board will be perfect. The problem is that you have too many choices and only you can decide what to do from the experience you are getting from being on the water. For example: Yesterday it was 5 to 7 mph wind here and I wanted to test the new light wind wing called the GHOST. So I went out on the GHOST "X" 7m in 5 to 7 mph with my 65 liter board and the AXIS 999 front wing. I had a hard time to plane because my board was too short and was sinking. So I could not get onto planning. So went and took my 95 liter board and the ARMSTRONG front wing foil 1500 and immediately after few pumps I was able to plane. Some pictures are on my FaceBook page. So in very light breeze you need a board that has a lot of volume so it won't stick to the water much compare to a small board.
