wow! I totally missed this. A bunch of coaches most of the times teach the weave in the same generic manner --- bend the knees, dont look down, keep the eye on the opponent. These may all sound basically correct but Coach Tom described the essence of weaving. If you study the best weavers in the game, like Toney and Frazier, they weave just like Coach Tom described.

Tyson and canelo don't they weave at the knees, I think there is a time and place for both though.

Duran also. Benn also used to bend at the knees, even for a "taller" fighter.

@@Ash-so2sr Tyson rarely ever weaved with the knees in a real fight. In most of Tyson's defensive highlights, he took a "bow" (bend at the waist) when rolling punches.

When I first started i was inspired by the peekaboo style. And while nitpicking all the best characteristics from various old time fighters I noticed Joe Frazier and I was so amused by his technique. Tried to incorporate it and I got immediately told I was weaving the wrong way and I that should stay straight while bending the knees without putting my head near the opponent. 2 minutes later in the same sparring session I got hit in the face by a left hook because I weaved like they told me to and heard them say: "you're too easy to hit". I was like: 😐🤨

Think of it this way. If everyone is trained the exact same way on how to weave/punch through the amateur setting then everyone know how somebody is going to respond or counter move. They are now predictable. But if you do something different and get good at it. Then you will give everyone else fits as they try to figure you out in a fight. 3 rounds at 2 or 3 minutes to figure your weird style. All the while you are see a variation of what is taught in the majority if amateur boxing gyms across North America. For you it would be easy peasy.

That type of weave combined with foot work sets up nice angles of attack from the sides. I can see that kid weaving under the punch and blasting a liver shot while his opponents arm is still hanging in the air.
@liamhickey434

Two problems with weaving like that is in amateur boxing you would get a warning for dropping your head from most referees and the other thing is that your much more open to uppercuts when you are looking at the floor

Watch and listen to Coach. When Coach weaves, his eyes are on the target, NOT on the ground. The old saying is you go where your eyes are fixed. You look down, you go down. Keep your head up as Coach does.

Great lesson as always. As you have already explained in previous videos 📹 you shouldn't stress the quadriceps too much, otherwise you won't move anymore. It's essential to bene the legs with the butt a little back and make the U with the torso. I'm learning a lot from your great videos. Thank you coach💪👊🥊🥊

Here's what I try to do fwiw -- at short-midrange defense primarily against hooks: bend the ankles, bend the knees, bend the waist, eyes on opponent's torso (not on the floor). Don't lean forward. Maintain a strong base with balance but keep legs soft and fast. You know you're probably doing it wrong if you can't counter punch or lose balance. At edge of range, or in a short-midrange offensive don't bend so much at the waist, chin tucked but eyes on opponent's shoulders -- more of a head's up roll. This is what Tyson, Mayweather, Toney, Canelo do/did.

Depends what you trying to do. If you stay in place and not move your feet then yes, but if you do it the traditional way and move your feet then no they cannot lean on you. Also depends how fast your roll out of there. Many things come into play depends on what you trying to do.

0:27 if you just let your hand rest on top of his neck you can very easily control him and put an uppercut on him ... This technique is to me high risk for uppercuts and stiff arming someone like what Floyd did to Maidana where he would just put his forearm on top of his neck when Maidana bended by the waist, again useful but really can create difficult situations and the boxer must know what he is risking.

Ok let me just say something, greats like Chavez and frazer did this weaving bending at the waist but if you watch other great boxers like canelo and Tyson they do it the other way by weaving by bending at the knees, personally do what suits you best but overdoing this bending will cost you highly if they set you up for an uppercut If you do boxing to Compliment mma or kickboxing this technique is high risk low reward.
@denisesayers8520
@denisesayers8520 2 года назад
Not so sure sbout that. My husband taught our son to bend at the waste. When they are going hot and heavy my husband can't hit our son. He will miss on 3 hooks and transition to an uppercut but our son will dip/ weave and do a slight pull out of range and hubby will miss that too. It's an art of predictive punching and my husband know what our son is going to do as he taught him the trick.
@Ash-so2sr
@Ash-so2sr 2 года назад
@@denisesayers8520 for sure the style is doable frazer and Chavez used it to great success, I would say if I works for him then great keep doing it. But next time the kid does that ask whoever he's sparring with to simply throw a punch and then just leave his forearm on top of the neck of the person who is bending down at the waist and tell them to put his weight on him , and see what happens..
@denisesayers8520
@denisesayers8520 2 года назад
I agree with you that bending at the waste in kick boxing and your gonna get foot ball punted in the face. I disagree with your analysis for boxing. In theory it makes sense that your gonna eat an uppercut in practice it is harder then you think. Yes you can hold the head down which is an illegal move in boxing but he also taught our son to roll out of that. My husband was a competitive boxer in his day.

If you step at everything you do. You don't telegraph. You just control the range and then you load. If you load without footwork you will send telegraph. You are predictable. Your opponent must feel your feet moving and never see your punches. .........
