Northern Tier 2018: Crew E072718C, 100 miles. Those doing NT pay heed to this video; exactly how we did it, every time. FYI Kevlar canoes are now standard at Sommers/Ely base, but the debate continues as aluminum canoes are more stable in rougher waves and wind. Also, pay the extra fee and do the Canada/Quetico side - you'll see no crowds and have your pick of campsites. Thank you to the original video poster.
Actually, the reason for not beaching the these canoes if not because of the LNT but because of the fact in BWCAW (or northern tier as BSA knows it best) there a lot of hard granite that can tear up the canoes. Yes not all spots are rocky but there plenty of area's that look like it's just dirt but it's actually very thin layer of dirt and solid rock underneath it. Been there in '05 and '07. Fun place to be in. :D
