This video saved me the high price of a service visit. Super helpful. We have an older model Maytag dryer. Stopped blowing warm air. Heating element wire had broken. Most videos on replacing an element show the new models where its changed easily from the back. This was the only one I could find that shows how to change the older model from the front - a more difficult process but made easy with this simple to understand video.

With the help of this video, I have successfully changed the heating element and Thermistor on my Kenmore HE2 model 110.86572501. This is the third appliance I have been able to repair myself (washer and refrigerator previously) thanks to the videos your organization has produced. They have easily saved me about $500 in service calls and repair fees. Thank you very much!

Right, totally NOT required to remove the drum. Disassembly only requires bottom front cover removal, remove screw on can foot, disconnect a few wires, pull can out front and open can. Reassembly MAY require rear panel removal.

This is the best video I've seen on how to disassemble and reassemble a Duet dryer, and obtain the required parts. Is it always necessary to do the disassembly to this degree? Is it possible, for example, to replace the heating element from the front of the appliance without removing the front bulkhead and drum?
@Oak690
@Oak690 Год назад
The element doesn't short out when it fails, it opens. LOL!
@DirtRoadie
@DirtRoadie 8 лет назад
Mostly unnecessary! The title refers to simply replacing the heating element. But the video shows the steps for nearly COMPLETE dryer disassembly. 90% of what is shown is unnecessary. Laying the dryer on its back makes access easier. Just pop off the bottom front panel (held by two screws as shown), pop off the 6 wire push-on/quick-connects for heating element and thermostats. Remove two screws on the front support for the heating element housing and remove the support. Then wiggle the element housing a bit to free it (there's a rear clip) and slide it straight out. And removing and replacing the thermostats from the housing is MUCH easier when the housing is out. There is no need whatsoever for the steps shown in the video of removing the (1) top, (2) control panel, (3) front door panel, (4) bulkhead or (5) drum.

Thank you DR for the good advice. My husband replaced the heater element on our Maytag Dryer with no problems without having to take it totally apart.
@claytonw_cz
@claytonw_cz 5 лет назад
Yes, you are right. Complete disassembly is not necessary. On my Whirlpool I just removed the front bottom panel and removed the heater assembly. Unfortunately, to put it back correctly, I had to remove also the rear panel of the dryer. There is not enough space without removing the drum. Then remove two screws on the duct and connect with the heater assembly. Done.
@MysticBreakdown
@MysticBreakdown 4 года назад
ACTUALLY its not 90% unnecessary, maybe only to you. If your arms and hands are too big to fit in this area you will absolutely need to disassemble. Also, if you're not mechanically inclined, taking the drum out will be necessary because its kind of dark to see inside even with a flashlight as to what you're disconnecting and reconnecting.

Is removing the drum essential to replacing the heating element? It would be a reasonably tight workspace, but I don't see any electrical or mechanical necessity to remove the front panel and drum?

You can visually inspect the element for damage and test it with a meter for continuity.

Or you can remove the lower front panel, unplug the wiring from the components on the heater duct then remove the back panel of the dryer and remove the heater duct and separate the heater from the duck and reverse this process.

This guide was helpful for disassembly of my Kenmore 110879561603 dryer. Unfortunately, the heating element housing of my dryer is apparently a different model than the one shown in the video. I can find no easy method of removing the heating element (which I verified was broken) from it. Apparently I am going to need a new housing and heating element.

This video may be helpful but your element is different. It is sold as just the element, we do not have a video on it yet. www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-heater-element-5400w-wp3387747-ap6008281.html

Why do you need to take the whole dryer apart basically to replace the heating element?
@DirtRoadie
@DirtRoadie 8 лет назад
+kiltor2 Agreed. In fact, you don't. The video is helpful for showing the various pasts and pieces, and is a nice step-by-step description. But it adds unnecessary steps and is a great example of inefficient use of time. You would not want a repairman who bills by the hour to do it that way. On my Sears version of this dryer, all parts looked exactly like those pictured. If only replacing the heating element, just remove the lower front panel (3:04-3:19). All the other disassembly is completely unnecessary. The whole process is made simpler by laying the dryer on its back. And then jump to 7:06. You do have to remove the full housing for the element as shown, but it's only held by two screws (one that anchors the front support, the other connects the front support to the element housing) ) and a clip on top at the back. And rather then unscrewing the thermostats while the assembly is in place, just unplug the wires. The full assembly then comes straight out the front.

@@DirtRoadie Thanks for this tip, I myself am having to replace the heating element on my Maytag and I slid the heating element housing right out the front of the machine. Any tips on re-seating the housing into the back without taking off back panel? My parts come in tomorrow and that's the only part where I could foresee needing to remove the rear panel to get that little tab locked into the back vent.

I just changed the heating element on my Kenmore elite 110.63952102. After putting the element back in I found I have two wires not connected to anything. One is red and yellow and come from the same harness as the wire I connected to the heating element. The other is green and one end is connected to the frame and the other end is loose. Are they supposed to be connected to something?
@appliancepartspros
@appliancepartspros 8 лет назад
I would check the wiring diagram, without seeing it I would guess the thermal fuse or the high limit thermostat.
