Looks great ladies! For those willing to do this, you can also do it on the cheap with a bag of calcium from L's or HD. I did it with a 2 part water, 1 part lime mix and it is more opaque than Kerri's, but still shows some of the underlying variation in the brick (ours was ugly concrete gray). You can thin it out according to taste. It's super easy and adds so much interest. If you hate it, you can power wash it off before it totally cures in a few days. Good thing, you can paint over it if that's your preference, or you can tint it according to taste, as well. You'll be so proud and you will save thousands of dollars.
@@araina5896 No. Every 5-7 years is the durability from what I've heard. But the repaint will be much easier and quicker. In the interim you might have spots that need touch up like I have (eg. window ledges where rain runoff hits) which is super fast and easy. Just make up a small batch and slap it on. To me it's totally worth it.
Just happened to watch your video because it looked different .. group of ladies doing exterior paint. Didn't watch it in the middle, and sound was muted on my laptop. Then jumped to comments. Here I found the best part. Your responses were so genuine. You didn't pretend to know all. Will watch your other videos during Christmas holidays.
I would love to hire those ladies they did the whole side of the house and didn't one drop of paint on the clothes they were wearing that I could see and they were wearing black WOW I have had a painting business for 39 years and never stayed that clean but you did a nice job
I’m over my brick and I love this white wash it’s beautiful Does it matter if the brick is that horrible reddish color brick? What paint was that you used ?
I love the look. ❤ Great work Ladies! However in 30 years someone will 'uncover the beautiful brown brick' 😂 and try to get rid of the white, haha. It's like we always leave work for the next generation so they won't get bored😂😂😂
Another question...my house is 1960 red brick. I’m thinking I may need to use a white with a slight greenish tint to neutralize the redness or I’ll end up with a pale pink house. Perfect for Barbie but...
Loved this video!!! Thank you so much for the information. Can this be done on new cultured stone? The mortar is wide between the stones. Several of the stones have a deep orange color.
I am planning on whitewashing my home, and this is the best tutorial I have seen!! I saw you said to use exterior paint. Any exterior paint would work? This is fabulous!!! 🥳
I bought a 50lb bag of calcium lime at the big box for $50 and did our 2000sf home and only used half of it. My formula was 2 parts water, 1 part lime.
Just curious I’m doing my first white wash and I’m a professional painter but I’ve never done brick painting aside from just completely painting it interior jobs. Why can I use a 4 inch roller or even a 6 inch or larger well that causes an hour affect and then come back with the brush after I roll it or have my guy brushing it as I’m rolling it on with the same mixture?
I love this! You still get variation it's not all one flat color which I detest. Could you add a bit of gray or any color for that matter and still get variation? Thanks for sharing!
Hi Tiffany, the only prep we did was making sure the house was pressure washed and clean. As far as how long it will last, we did parts of this house almost 3 years ago and there has been no change whatsoever. I would guess that it would last for many years to come since it has been so durable, but it hasn’t been on the house long enough for me to say for sure.
you showed the front of the house that looked great , so I really wanted to see the "after" on the front . However, on the side the white wash looked great but not the aged antique white siding . what was the name of paint , no one mentioned that?
We actually put off taking the picture of the front of the house because the landscaping still had not been done and then we completely forgot about it and we posted the video, sorry about that. Also, the color of the siding looked antiqued in the after pictures and I have no idea why. It is white just like it was in the before pictures but somehow it looked dirty or antiqued in the after pictures. I wish there was a way to add in better pictures so you could see but I can’t change it now. If you join our Facebook group, let me know and I will try to get some good after pictures of the front and the side so you can see it. As far as the paint color goes I don’t remember offhand and I’m having a tough time finding the can but when I do I’ll comment back here and let you know. Thanks so much for watching!
Because brick is so porous, you can use house paint like we did and it will stick. I’m not sure about the white wash products you are referring to because I’ve never used them, but I would assume that they are meant for particular types of surfaces where waterwd down paint would not adhere. Hope that helps! If you read the can on the products that you’re talking about, you should be able to get a little more information as to what they’re intended for
I wish I had a good answer for that. It was actually done over an extended period of time. I started the project by myself and stopped for a while and the three of us completed it.

How many years will this last? I ask because I called our local paint store and they suggested never watering down paint for an exterior job. However, I don't want a solid colour or to lime wash.
We just used the same house paint that we used on the siding and I didn’t pressure wash it immediately before but it hasn’t been that long since the time that it was pressure washed.
In my experience I would highly recommend being pressure washing the brick first and then waiting a few days if necessary but generally you can get started right away we even use pump sprayers and keep our break wet not dripping but just moist where the pores are soaked up and then we roll it and use brushes to spread it out. But that’s just our method everybody has their own we also start from the top and work our way down it’s just a good general rule of thumb for brick work when you’re mixing 50-50 of water.
As far as I know, this finish cannot be sprayed. It needs to soak into the brick and it requires the brush in the water to push it around and into the pores of the brick.
You can spray it with a 513 tip about 18" to 24" away from the wall and use a clean soft shop broom or a nylon 4" brush for smaller spaces with extension pole to work it into the grooves.
I see all the comments and everyone is saying paint . Do not use paint on your brick reason why it lowers the value of the home and the brick does not breathe . Use a stain
Closing on my house tomorrow (gonna flip it) and my realtor said I should whitewash it, to help it resell faster. I guess whitewashing ugly brick is in style.

I first started this project 2 1/2 years ago on a small section the very front of this house and it looks just as good as the last section that we just completed. It’s shows no sign of wear whatsoever. Probably due to the fact that the brick is so porous and the paint literally soaks into the brick
I would think so but without knowing if there was any type of sealer applied to the stone, I can’t be sure. Brick is porous so that really helps it to stick.

White paint the outside of the house with a roller is faster and adds another 100+ thousand when selling cause it brightens up the house like cement rendering people are doing now
You really wrecked the bricks, these bricks already had a designer look mixing dark and light bricks. White washing I think is more for dirty and bland bricks, rather than clean and designer bricks.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. The great thing about opinions is that everyone has one! LOL We LOVE the whitewash brick and all of the neighbors thanked me for making the neighborhood more beautiful, so I guess its just how you see it. Wishing you Much Joy and Happiness!!!
I love the white wash to that brick! I am anxious to do this to my old red brick from the late 60's. So glad that this video was available. I think that brick was too much of a contrast before this was done and it really improved.
From my experience, yes, you can first do broad application with a roller, but then you will definitely need a brush to spread it and fill in the joints and holes.
