True. I had to face off against 3 big black guys and i stabbed the first one who made it to me in the neck with the neck of a bottle. I ran to a police car and confessed and was arrested but luckily it was on video. But when i stabbed him every one else stopped instantly and it bought me plenty of time to get away. Id prolly be dead or close to it if i hadnt.
"Whoever wins the street fights whoever's willing to take it the furthest the fastest. You're thinking you're gonna box and he's biting you poking your eyes that guy's gonna win." LOL this is so true and no nonsense. Well said.

@Malus Like the writer above stated, he would have been dead if he didnt attack his attackers but yeah, try to live on Joe Rogans words when youre actually in real danger you cant escape from easily my man.
@Malus In my country, firearms doesnt really exists in plentyful and self defense is very much allowed so... Did you know that other countries than Murica' exists in the world with their culture and laws?
Best instructor I ever had said this for street fights : know yourself, know your opponent, know your surroundings , before making any decisions or moves
Your instructor was Sun Tzu? 😊 The problem being we never know enough about all three. As Clausewitzian “ fog and friction” and you’re in a crapshoot. Still it remains good advice. 😅
That’s pretty solid advice if you ask me. Most fights are caused my ego. So if you know yourself & what you are capable of doing you don’t really need to prove anything. Having self control & staying calm. Unless you have no choice to fight that’s different scenario
I don't think I've seen too many MMA fighters talk about street fighting with the slightest bit of bravado. They are keenly aware of the potential for permanent harm to themselves or their opponent. They have to protect not only themselves, but their careers. And you never know when an idiot hothead will pull out a weapon. And weapon or not, the legal implications can get nasty real fast.
this! before i was competent in muay thai i had a very different attitude towards altercations outside of a gym. with experience it totally changed. i avoid this shit at all costs. its good to know that i can defend myself properly against most people but things can go sideways always and for most of this "street shit" its just not worth it to risk serious injuries for myself or the other person. let them talk and look and act tough, i dont care

Eddie Alvarez did that recent podcast with Ariel and said he’s never lost a street fight. And he’s been in too many to count since he was a little kid.
Or you could end up like me! Fought back with a crackhead in self defence and split my knuckle open on his tooth. I am now HIV positive for the rest of my life 🥺
On 6th street in Austin mid 90's. I once saw a buddy of mine get sucker punched from behind. Within a couple of seconds the perp was on the ground in a full Nelson with a broken nose. It was one of the craziest things I had ever seen. My buddy was tri-state high school wrestling champ from Chicago. Btw The punch was completely unprovoked. The guy was drunk looking to hit someone. Terry actively avoided confrontation because he knew how harmful he could be in any given circumstance.
Genuinely sound advice and no one here is getting ahead of themselves. My Sabum always said to run away if you can, notably because growing up in my area, you would never know who was carrying a knife. If you know how to fight, then you shouldn't have as big of an ego as someone who doesn't.

For one-on-one fights without anyone interfering, a solid ground game is critical. Most guys freak out on the ground, so you take less damage and control the fight. The last guy I got in a street fight with wouldn't quit. I ended up arm-barring him. The guy proceeded to bite me on the calf, so I popped his shoulder out of the socket. I ended the fight there and spent the next 5 minutes helping him pop it back in. We became friends afterward, and gave him shit for years for biting me. Good times 👍🏻
Funny how all the professionals more or less say, “you really don’t want to do that.” The “not go to prison” part is not said enough. Good on Craig Jones.
@@gabrielsilvas692 thanks for the clarification bro, in that case im boutta head out and pop the livers and knee caps on some fools with my mean liver shot and low kick combo, that won't kill them so I should be problem free
Your biggest enemy in a street fight is the pavement: the first one to hit it loses, usually there’s no getting back up. Many of the techniques we learn in the gym (specially in grappling) goes thru the window once you hit a hard surface. Also you could roll like Demian Maia and it wouldn’t matter a bit if a second perp stomps your head while you armbar his buddy. I’ve seen videos of guys backpedaling and using boxing against multiple opponents and knocking them down one at a time. Striking looks a better alternative when you are cornered and can’t run away.
To your first point, I think judo would be the most valuable skill in a one on one fight. Even more so than wrestling because you can throw your opponent on the pavement without going to the ground yourself. For fighting multiple people I would go with boxing or Muay Thai.
So how do you explain all the street fights on RU-vid where BJJ was actually used effectively to subdue the other person? You sound like a boxer in denial.
The only videos ive seen of a person beating multiple people was boxers unleashing a machine gun blast of punches on the group before they could really react. Kicks and wrestling just leave you too vulnerable to being swept and head stomped by multiple people
@@stevewright6632 I believe you, but was thinking about defensive use of boxing, not for a bully KOing clueless victims. I saw a video the other day of a guy being chased by a group and he would stop from time to time to KO a guy (usually running towards his punches with his chin up) and them resume again running. He did that about four times until the group gave up chasing him.
From Dallas, TX here. Can confirm that you can go up to a cop, say you two are going to fight, and then go for it. The cop can just step in before it gets out of hand
@@alexandervitokov567 it’s not awesome. Fighting is and always has been a horrible way to settle anything. The lamest thing in the world is when person X does something wrong and person Y fights them because of it. Person X wins and all the sudden it’s over. The fact that the person who did wrong is also a better fighter does not take away the wrong they did. I’ll never forget in high school this kid and his girlfriend suspected another boy of stealing the girlfriends laptop . It came out from dozens of people they’d seen the boy with it. Anyway the guys fight and the thief wins. And because they fought somehow everything was supposed to be ok and the “beef” was dead The dude ended up admitting a few months later to it. Don’t think anything ever happened to him If you wanna fight just to fight whatever . But there’s an idea behind it that might makes right. It doesn’t
The discussion about what is a win is the gateway to ideas that allow for a more comprehensive understanding of self defence. If we step out of the win/lose equation it frees us to allow for outcomes that are not reliant on control and domination. This, in turn, allows for more fundamental principles about survival that can help resolve a situation.
I agree with his statement. The first person willing to maim the other person is going to win. Unless there is a huge skill difference between the two like one of the two is a professional fighter.
It depends on how good the other person is, too. If someone wants to maim you, but doesn’t have the ability to pull it off quickly, then they’re probably just going to make you angry enough to want to do serious damage to them. At that point the advantage evaporates.
Honestly, skill doesn't count for much if you don't see it coming and the aggressor doesn't give you a chance to recover. If you've ever been suckered punched, you'll know what I mean. No amount of skill and training can make you recover your wits faster than a couple of seconds, which is way, way too long if someone us really trying to hurt you.
Remember the famous mom quote: be the bigger man. If you show confidence and restraint and decide to walk away even though you are capable of violence. Almost everyone will respect it and it will be remembered as the time you let that guy live to fight another day.
Don't... just don't. If you can get away. Do that. Everyone gets to walk away. Your ego isn't worth getting knocked out or going to jail. This isn't a world you want to be in. Getting called a bitch isn't worth a life. Yours or theirs. If you can....get out.
I think the best thing is somthing like judo because ground game is not as important when you smash someone on a hard surface he just gonna pass out and you can also do it against multipol opponents
Best strategy is to simply get naked quick, nobody wants to fight a naked guy… If things still continue to escalate, slowly advance while doing the windmill and making strong eye contact. Im a pacifist and haven’t lost a street fight yet. Worst case scenario, the guy that was trying to fight you, tries to give you a mouth hug instead …so, that’d be a good time to run.
All the things you CAN’T DO in a MMA fight but sound like the exact kind of thing someone would do in a street fight: - Butting with the head - Eye gouging of any kind - Biting or spitting at an opponent - Fish hooking (act of inserting a finger or fingers or one or both hands into the mouth or nostrils or a person, pulling away from the centerline of the body) - Hair pulling - Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his head or neck - Strikes to the spine or the back of the head. - Throat strikes of any kind, and/or grabbing the trachea - Fingers outstretched toward an opponent’s face/eyes - Downward pointing elbow strike (’12 to ‘6 strike) - Groin attacks of any kind - Kneeing and/or kicking the head of a grounded opponent - Stomping a grounded opponent - Holding opponent’s gloves or shorts - Holding or grabbing the fence or ropes with fingers or toes - Small joint manipulation - Throwing opponent out of ring/fighting area - Intentionally placing a finger into any orifice or any cut or laceration of an opponent - Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh
Then you get Jocko saying, "that stuff don't work on me." He forgets hes a navy seal who loves combat while everyone else is just some average dude with mild pain tolerance where this will work on them.
@@kennethforman5265 Jocko is one bad MoFo but I don’t care how though you are: you can’t condition your cornea. Even he can be blinded by an eye poke. Look at all those professional fighters that have better pain tolerance than the majority of the population: once they got hit in the eye, they stop in their tracks disoriented in pain. I’ve been accidentally eye poked by a strike and it just sends a response through your body that says “stop whatever you are doing”. I’ve been kicked in the nuts before and I can’t tell you witch one was worse to recover from. The eye poke definitely more disorienting. You probably have to be full of drugs in your system to ignore this.
@@VincitOmniaVeritas7 exactly. I almost lost my right eye once, i had my teeth knocked out and surgically placed back in, and I been bit. All of those have ruined my day. The eye one made me want to throw up from the pain and I was in bed for a day or two from it. I've been love tapped in the throat in a sparring match. I fell to the ground and couldnt breath for what felt like minutes. Im above average at fighting and that shit took me out easily. An average dude whos tough but never actually been hurt in his life will get destroyed from most of this stuff.
It’s true you can call it mutual combat, and nothing happens unless a person is seriously hurt .. We will stand, and watch then break it up call it good you go this way, you go that way
I bounced for about 4 to 5 years 10 years ago, and I agree with the first guy. I never saw someone who was active in the local MMA circuit win a bar/street fight (total 5 instances). On the other hand I never saw a cross dresser (that's what they were called back then) LOOSE a bar/street fight (total of 3 instances). What the first guy said is right. Whoever is willing to take it the farthest is the one that wins. The MMA guys were skilled but restricted with the rules they were taught for the competition. The cross dressers were used to fighting against people trying to do them legitimate harm.
The only qualifiers for Mutual Combat in Texas and Washington state is that both parties agree and a police officer agrees to referee. You have to stop when the cop calls it, but That's it.
Run if you can, last time I got into a street fight I was stabbed and thank God I had enough situational awareness to twist my body otherwise I woulda been stabbed directly in the stomach Instead of the outer upper thigh
This is why I would never fight someone on the street if it can be avoided. The untrained yappy losers are the ones you have to be afraid of because of how insecure and fearful they are. Those are the guys that pull out a weapon or have 5 guys jump you and stomp in your head. They have nothing to lose.
Lex: what is the moster effective martial art for winning a Street fight? Also Lex: We can absolut define winning diffrently because you can also run away.
Yes, in mutual combat states you’re supposed to have a police officer there to be a type of referee and stop it from going too far. . . Otherwise there’s nothing to stop a person from claiming they were assaulted
Bill Wolfe is the last instructor of "REAL" no rules fighting...39 years Canadian military and 12 years Canadian cop (RCMP)...look him up Lex...this training is LIFE CHANGING...its about conquering fear thru repetition of an EXTREMELY fast/effective/violent real fighting system...go to "kick punch choke chat" youtube channel episode #93 and listen to the man himself...Bill wont be around forever
If you get into a street fight you’ve already lost something. Like best case scenario you have some cuts and bruised up knuckles the next day. But thats still worse off than you would have been not fighting
Played the big man once took on three lads causing shit. Was doing okay then got my head kicked when I was on the ground. Great lesson for a ego fueled untrained teenager. Never did that again..
Homer giving advice to Bart on how to fight - Homer: First, you gotta shriek like a woman and keep sobbing until he turns away in disgust. That's when it's time to kick him in the back. And then when he's lying down on the ground... Kick him in the ribs… Step on his neck… And run like hell.
In Canada, if two guys want to fight each other and they're in a park or somewhere where they're not going to disrupt anyone else, it's perfectly legal. It's a mutually agreed upon conflict resolution. It's as simple as if a guy says "I'm going to beat the hell out of you", and the other guys says "Oh ya, try it". Then it's all good to get to banging it out.
Good question. In a suburb or Toronto, about forty-five years ago, a former friend was walking home from a local bar. He was drunk and called out vulgarities at some other guy's girlfriend. A short fist fight ensued and my friend's head hit a curb on the way down. He went unconscious . The police and ambulance were called as he received a concussion and required twelve stitches to his head. The police summed it up as poor judgement and the idiot was lucky he didn't die, and no charges were laid. That former friend only last until his mid-thirties as he died from a different misadventure of stupidity.
First, I'll say there's no black and white, all encompassing answer so,let's run through a few scenarios. But before we do that, let's establish the universal goal in street fighting: survival. There's no rules of engagement so,understand 1st and foremost that ANYTHING is on the table. The second goal is to NOT go to prison. You want to neutralize your opponent to the extent that you can safely exit the situation and, hopefully that doesn't entail having to kill the mf or permanently disable them. Don't exceed necessary force because that's when jail can potentially enter your paradigm; i.e. kicking or continuing to strike someone who is defenseless (unconscious). Now,if it's 1 on 1 and there's nobody that can potentially jump in and you just want to get out of the situation alive, I'd have to say BJJ. If there's a chance of being jumped or you're fighting multiple people from the start, basic boxing skills + proper footwork (stay moving, avoid being surrounded and going to the ground at ALL costs) can be extremely effective. In the event that multiple people are attacking you,it can be reasonably assumed that you're in mortal danger. That would be a great time to combine boxing skills with dirty tactics, such as some quick, stiff throat jabs and if opportunity presents, take your four fingers and hold them almost like how you would cup them to swim, but more pointedly and very tightly together, with your thumb offering as much support on the side of your index and peck at their eyes. The tight formation will maximize your chances of making contact with the eyeballs,as they're such a small target AND,your fingers will be supporting each other and greatly protect against breakage. But please know, that's gonna be among your last of resorts because it's just not a viable plan of attack. It's definitely something that you can turn to when you're losing stamina and you fear you may gas out soon. Sorry that was such a long response,it's just that I've had a fair amount of fights in the street and I feel like it was an extremely complex question. But ultimately, avoid street fighting as much as you possibly can. The potential ramifications are WAY to severe for it to be worth it. The only situation an intelligent person should ever street fight in is from a position of self defense that you cannot REASONABLY escape or avoid. Pride or ego can NEVER qualify as justification for taking such a MASSIVE RISK.
I agree with what you’re saying re: boxing and multiple opponents, and will add that the goal when fighting multiple assailants should always be to create a safe escape, either by convincing your opponents that continuing to fight you is a bad idea, or by finding an unstoppable method of transport. In that case, being as ferocious as possible is your best bet, as the faster you can overwhelm one of your opponents, the weaker the threat and the more persuasive the argument against continued engagement becomes. Most people aren’t very good at fighting as part of a team, and tend to trip over each other a lot - they’re also not usually psychologically ready for a full-blown attack, which is why they’re fighting in a group and not alone. If you can maintain heightened awareness in this situation, then you should be able to make the right decisions. Of course, if it turns out that you can use some aspect of the environment to your advantage, then it’s possible you’ll be able to fully overwhelm all of your assailants, but that’s not a smart bet to take in most cases.
What is the best attitude for a street fight …. A small bit a skill and the right attitude ….. and more lose you shape the more violent and dangerous u become ….. training to street fight and small a knowledge trumps every combat sport
In winter time a good judoka can fck some people up. Ive seen a black belt flip multiple grown men on their head in succession like they were toddlers. Effortlessly as well. They were all drunk but so was the black belt. It was impressive to watch.
I’ve unfortunately been in a few street fights, these are your choices. 1 de-escalate and walk away. 2 king hit and run. 3 square off and box, adrenaline will be surging and time will slow down but you will have options. Adrenaline will increase your wide vision to assess threats, but greatly diminish any fine motor skills. 4 honestly unless you are excellent at bjj don’t go to the ground, my fights have sometimes been 15 attacking 1, getting tied up on the ground not only makes you a target but allows the attacker to justify a savage attack “because they are helping their friend”. 5 use confusion, say you know the person, or you need to be somewhere, or that you’ve seen them at their work, or you know their family - this will break their aggression and is very reliable. Enough to walk away in many cases.
Perhaps the most important factor is this - if someone is really good at doing something to someone (e.g) a boxer punching you or a BJJ guy leg locking you (like Craig Jones) it’s going to be really hard to stop them from doing it to you. Of course if you are armed you can more easily stop a skilled fighter from doing whatever they want to you, also if your friends are helping you this will also help, but this is not guaranteed. I’ve been in hundreds of street fights, including dealing with people armed with all sorts of weapons, having all round skills has made it easy to deal with these idiots…….fighters don’t start street fights because they have nothing to prove …..except those embarrassing moments when fighters fought one another outside the ring.
Best martial art to win a street fight? No such thing. There's no rules. Let them have the W. Especially if you are unarmed. You have legal worries to consider.

Problem is the majority of street fights are not one on one. People are far more likely to get into street fights with mob mentality. People that can actually fight and aren't scared of fighting that agree 'lets go outside' and fight are pretty not as common. Also martial arts can actually be a hindrance in a street fight, you being a fight put up your guard and expect a fight like in the ring etc. Sometimes guys come barrelling at you with their fists swinging like in cartoons and you get caught because you're not used to fighting untrained people and you end up on your arse thinking 'how the fuck did that happen.'
