how to WIN as the RIVERFOLK COMPANY | Root Strategy Guide 

I played my second game as Riverfolk Company and won thanks to your tips! Appreciate it.

I played my first game as riverfolk company and had regularly the zelda shop theme playing when i reminded the players of my premium-once-in-a-lifetime sales

I played them first time and they immediatly became my favourite faction(they really remind Haccans from Twilight Imperium). Best tip a can give is to be really crafty with your sales. Learn weakness of each race and play into them. For examle cats always struggle with number of their action so try to sale them bird cards to get more. With birds look what they have specific cards for their decree. Try to tell them that in case of turmoil they wont lose points by using them. Also help(and i mean really help) other factions plan their turn suggest moves they can do if they use your services. By doing that they will trust you and buy from you much more easily. Also it helps covering your own actions. If you do that correctly you can control entire board without anyone notice.

To play the Reverfolk well, you shouldn't expect from providing services. You have to think how to win this faction when no one buying from you anything in entire game. That is the tip, you build the first shop with five warriors in any clearing on the river, and you have to wait for getting victory point from warriors in Fund box collected between rounds. In the later game, when you have enough points, and with a lot of warriors in Fund box, just go to other clearings and starting build many shop as you can, that will help you get enough victory points for turning the tables.

It depends on the board and players, but if you manage to get some profitable early sales, I found it a viable strategy to just have your entire army sit on a single trade post and invest funds for dividends while recruiting a bit to gradually increase defense. The idea is that the post can't likely be destroyed in one turn. If you balance it right, you may be able to save 10+ points that way before people seriously move to lay siege to your walls. - At which point you can commit your pile of funds to move your otter ball around them and ravage their homelands for more points. Then finally spend all the warriors (paying attention to rule/suits) to put down a bunch of trade posts (which need no more defending as you are done saving). And if that is not enough, you can then finish on crafting cards even if they never let you rule another clearing again.

my favorite faction! Instead of a slimy car salesfolk though, I like thinking of them as (playing them as) the non-violent vendors in wartime... eeehhehehehehehe

Dominance victory by other players can be great for the riverfolk, if you can convince people to buy to help you stop the dom victory

This great advice. At first glance riverfolk don’t seem like a threat but with sams tips this could make anyone a rivermaster.

I've heard some complain that the Riverfolk are too dependent on others and interaction with players, but I feel like that isn't entirely true. I think there's an aspect of it. I do see how there's a balance to the interaction between Alliance and other players aiding / doing battle. I wonder if Riverfolk could be improved in that manner? I'm so new to the game though, I'm not entirely sure. But I really enjoyed playing the tutorial of the Riverfolk on the mobile app.

I still don't think I could win with them. The easiest way to counter the Riverfolk is to just ignore them and not buy from them. If players ignore you, you are guaranteed to lose as 2 funds per turn is much to little to keep up.

One of my strategy as otter is convincing other that i would always police the bothersome faction... Only if i got funds. Sometimes making everyone but one faction your costumers by wreaking one of the faction as an absolute enemy is a viable strategy, especially when that one got policed is WA or vagabond.

I once won by dominance because nobody was paying much attention to me and then I took them by surprise.Still took me awhile to win though. Set your service costs high when you have something that you know another player wants.My advice is three.

what happens when the vagabond may steal a card to the riverfolk compagny? is he stealing it randomly or not? same question for the card who allow someone to steal a card against a victory point (sorry for the grammar, my english isnt that good)

The AI chokes me out every game whenever I get a lead, by not purchasing my cards or services. Is this a viable strategy, on the physical board game?
