The double is my favorite! I have 2 strategys where 1) I find a race where there is a single and then betting 4 or 5 horses in next leg and 2) finding 4 or 5 horses I like per 2 races and bet it that way. My average bet for a double is around $20.00

That seems like a sound strategy. Thank you for the comment.

Better to use 'dutching' I win every single day by dutching on horse racing. But you need to have a good knowlege of the sport!!

Some tracks are useing the no whip rule or light whip rule in the old days they use to tell you that the appritis does not have a whip as a better i would no bet a horse or race track that has that rule affect as of today they should inform the public which tracks are doing this to protect the better

I always loved the DD. 7/2 shot and a 5/2 pays $37. $30 double, you get back $555. Fun bet,and dont have to have a crazy big bankroll.

Yea the DD is a fun bet if your playing Saratoga or Kentucky Downs...you failed to mention the most important thing is that it's a good bang for the casual bettors buck if they hit the first race

This was very helpful. As a person who's a rookie new to the game this was extremely helpful I'm going to keep my powder dry for the Belmont and I'm only going to be betting doubles and exactus and try to get good at them. This was very very helpful thank you

In my opinion you said "avoid turf races",is a crazy statement. Why avoid turf. Turf generally has bigger fields,better pools and more exciting finishes,horses can come off the pace. Keeping the doubles only to dirt,naaaa. Totally disagree.

He said to spread it on turf & I agree.

Could you please explain what the difference is if you bet the fav in the first race vs betting the fav in the second race. If you only take one favorite, what difference does it make?

Hi Mark. I think it mainly comes from a psychological perspective more people will begin a Pick 3 or double, pick 4 etc by singling or including a favorite to be "on the safe side" Therefore you will have more tickets including those combinations which includes or singles the same favorites. The more tickets that have the same cominbations of horses(the same numbers) then the less it pays. For instance I was fortunate enough to hit the late Pick 4 at Keeneland last Friday on Future Stars Friday as part f the Breeders Cup. It paid over $3000 for 50 cents increments and $6000 for $1 increments. I feel the reason it paid that much is because I spread in the first 2 races of the sequence and found some nice longshot prices. The last two races were logical horses. Only one of the 4 races had a favorite win and that was the 3rd leg. I hope this makes sense but to sum up more people probably start their tickets and have the same combinations and use the favorite early on than those who don't. Thanks!

I love the DD. But I hate the 25% takeout most tracks have.

Yes those exotics bets can have high takeouts. I will have to check again but I think the NYRA tracks and maybe Southern California tracks have lower takeout % than some tracks. If you like to play and are good at playing doubles then maybe searching around for tracks with not so bad takeouts on doubles and focus in on those tracks. It might be worth it. www.nyra.com/aqueduct/racing/nyra-wagering-info This link might be dated. www.horseplayersassociation.org/2017Sortable.html Hope this helps!

I enjoy these bets. I have done pretty well with them.

Good to hear! I think they are one of the better and most underutilized bets in racing.

You don't know payoff until first race is ran. With your logic of it suprised you dont prefer exactas
@TheWarmupLap

Just like the exacta the probable payouts are known throughout the betting period of the first race. I find value in win bets all the time by seeing a horse who is bet heavily in the double but not for the win.

Awesome video ! Thank you VERY much from France AGAIN ! Here in France DD and vertical bets only represent 4% of all wagers so I'm completely new to this
