1:55 that is amazing advice. When I’m playing I tend to disregard my opponent and try to think of something new, but it’s important to see how consistent your opponent is in returning a particular shot and if you can exploit that. I appreciate it Nate, I’m a 3.5 player and that advice worked like a charm when I hit today. Keep up the great work 🙏
thanks for this feedback! I plan to release more of this type of content. Feel free to let me know if there are strategies, tactics or game styles you have questions around
Great video, it's good to see the thought process during a match. I think in connection with your distinction between correct strategy and correct execution, there is a classical trap where players change their strategy at crucial junctures in the match for really no good reason at all. That happens to me: I am ahead and suddenly I drop the topspin shots and go with slices, losing the lead. I also found that players fall into certain patterns. For example, my main opponent always tries to pass me on the net when I attack his forehand, but lobs me when I attack his backhand. Knowing that, I can basically slow down my approach to the net in the latter case and expect an overhead. Micropatterns like that probably exist for many players, myself included.
Yea great points. Patterns are a HUGE part of tennis. Understanding what patterns you use effectively and being able to identify patterns from your opponents is critical if you want to advance as a player
@@natestenniscomeback1486 Is there actually a way to recognize them during the match? I spend hours afterwards to analyze the games - it would be cool if I could see what's going on during the game already.
Hey Nate! Solid commentary. The title says path to 4.5 but you already seem like a solid 4.5 😁 I also just got back to tennis last year and it’s been super fun. Where are you located? Ps. Just subbed as well 👍👍
Hey J! Thanks for the support. I am a 4.5 borderline 5.0 The goal for my channel is to help other players get to be a 4.5 by sharing mental and tactical strategy tips Glad to hear your are getting back into it, i live near Cleveland Ohio.
@@natestenniscomeback1486 ah I am moving to washington next year so cleveland is a bit far 🙁 But I will definitely hit ya up whenever I visit Cleveland haha. Good luck with your progress!
Strategies have a lot to do with your own strength and weaknesses and your opponents strengths and weaknesses. Serve and volley can work well as a surprise tactic, but generally not well against a strong returner.
