A pressure washer should not be ran for no amount of time without being connected to a water source. You can purge the system with an air compressor but dont purge by disconnecting the water inlet and letting the pressure washer run. Damage to your pump will occur.

Just a few steps are necessary to winterize a hot water pressure washer. 1) Run an antifreeze solution through the unit. 2) Flush out the excess water and dry the unit. 3) Run a pump saver solution through the unit.
