A thousand "thank you"s Good sir! I've been putting together some junk CB radios for the Boy Scouts from a bucket of yard sale mix and match. I couldn't figure out why 2 of the radios just wouldn't work right. I had no idea that the hand mics weren't universal. 20 minutes after watching your video and taking notes, all the radios are working perfectly. Thanks again, and a thousand times thank you!
During my junior year in high school, 1977, I managed to pass the exam for the Second Class Radiotelephone Operator's License (now "GROL"). I was the only kid in high school who cleared $200.00 per week "peaking/matching/repairing, and replacing blown finals". It was a good way to meet women, too! Do I ever miss those days! Should you ever have the opportunity to purchase a Hy-Gain CLR-2 Ground Plane Antenna, grab it, as there was never a better antenna than that skyraker!
Thanks for a very helpful video. I have a Fanon Courier mobile CB with a non-working microphone, if a picture is worth a thousand words than your video is worth a million.
Thank you it helped me I should of watched it last week one of my cb radios isn't working now after trying to wire up a microphone just bye guessing. I wired up a 5 pin microphone last night to a realistic cb radio that was fun
I have done it a different way, but I have to admit YOUR way is better, thank YOU, but I still use MY way 50% of the way to find Receive and Audio using the Mic that comes with the Radio, and if there is no Radio I check remaining Pins to see which one is Audio and the last Pin is then Receive, or find which Pin is White to denote it being Audio, but I have found not all Radios use White to denote it to be Audio..... Finding which is Receive is easier when using a Multi-meter and using Ground Pin I check which will give ME a 0 Reading and the last pin is MY Audio... In any case thank YOU, I did learn something new, Thank YOU!!
well iv had a few older radios that the mics would not interchange with i may invest in more mics and change the wiring to match each radio ...good video ill your video and go back to it when i buy some more mics ... thumbs up
So in this case, the radio was able to go into TX mode via the small, series resistance of the mic insert. It would be a good follow up to further educate your audience on such a scenario with a diagram. This understanding only helps people figure out the mic wiring, sometimes without doing the radio test because you identify the small, but larger resistance of the insert (most commonly wired dynamic, moving coil type mics, never put a ohmmeter on a crystal mic element).
I’m having problems rewiring a K40 Antenna and the main reason is that I can’t seem to take the Antenna apart. I would love some help. Thank you. P.s. yes I love your videos very explanatory and easy to follow.
Need to know how to wire an Icom SM-8 desk mic to a Radioddity QT40 radio. I think the QT40 is same as Cobra 4-pin radios. Pins on the SM-8 are: 1) MIC IN 2) 8 V 3) Up/Dn 4) N/A 5) PTT 6) GND 7) MIC E 8) N/A Cobra appears to be: 1) Shield & Common 2) Audio 3) TX 4} RX So from top to bottom list: 6 --> 1 ? ? --> 2 5 --> 3 ? ? --> 4
Great video. I just bought an Astatic 878 DM pre amp desk mic and it is a 5 pin plug wired for Cobra & President and I have an RCI 2980 WX 4 pin radio. I did buy a plug adapter but still not working properly when I key up. Carrier on AM but no modulation. Is it just a matter of rearranging the wires on the mic plug? Thanks
Do you have any videos similar to this but explaining how the PTT(push to talk) button works inside of a microphone? I'm trying to fix/replace the mic cartridge on a whelen 295hf100 siren but i wanna make sure my wiring is in the right location on the PTT switch. I've looked on google for any wiring diagrams for my application but haven't been able to find any. Thanks for the help.
Mike, I really enjoyed this video and learned a lot. My project is to replace the microphone on my Harley which has a 7 pin plug communication plug (including L and R speakers for the helmet. I have trace the microphone to 2 of the pins and the speakers to 3 pins (I believe to be a L and R and a singlar ground). The next step is to determine the ground (Common) and the TX and RX (I would think that the one of the Microphone pins is the TX and the other a common. Do you have any material or sugguestions to help get this figured out? I'm basically going from a 7 pin receptacle to a 4 pine plug (or vice versa depending on how you look at it).
I have a multi meter, but what could I do if I don't have them other type of meter? I have 5 mic's that I need to test and or wire up for a different CB brand, but same type of 4 prong
hello..i need yr help..i have a dnt cb radio cp4012 and as a mic connctor uses an 8 pin din female on the radio..i cant find a microphone for this..what do you recomend? what mic shall i use to havve a 8 din male adaptor??? thanks in advance.
Greetings Sir! I have 2 mics and I want to use them in my RCI 2950 radio, the first mic is an Astatic 575 M6 (6 wire cable: shield, red, black, white, blue, yellow) and the second one is a Cobra CA-71B (5 wire cable: shield, red, black, white, blue). How can I wire both of them to my radio?
I have a few Mics that Key up but no Audio, do YOU know how to test to see if it is a wiring problem, or if the Condenser Mic part is faulty, or need to be replaced???? I did check the Wiring which seems OK but still no Audio when I key the mic.....
Very impressive, I trying to learn how to do some of this stuff. I have a Old City Fone SS that is not talking and sometimes the key is sticking, what do I need to do?
