S Plan heating systems need to have a nice neat wiring center to enable everything from the plumbing up to work properly! I show you what the wires do and how the system works. The orange wire, white wire, red wire, blue and earth wire. We look at room thermostats, cylinder thermostats and loads more. Enjoy! We'll look at the Zone Valve or 2 port valve. This will also help you replace the zone valve head of a Honeywell valve, along with our other videos.

I just bought a house which has an f&e system with no stats or programmer. Just a time clock to turn on the heating which will also do the hot water. The boiler is in a boiler house which is built on to the house. I am planning on having a room stat upstairs and downstairs, a 2 zone programmer under the distribution board downstairs but where is the best place to fit the motorised valves? I will be able to run multicore cables for my connections. Loving the videos man!

Good neat job explained well. BUT ..... you should not have doubled up on the wires into the ferrules, you had enough spare terminals in the strip block. There is a risk of pulling out. Finally always do an earth continuity check throughout the system, especially if plastic pipes are involved! In fact do a video on earth bonding and why it is important. See any video by John Ward for good explanations and examples.

As an electrician I have sorted loads of these out for friends and family, plumbers come and change valves and cock the wires up, that and electricians who have no idea what they are doing in the first place leave S-plans in a total mess. Best solution is to pull every wire out of the wiring centre and identify everything wire by wire and reconnect each wire in turn, then prove the functionality of each channel and it's associated stat and valve.
@garethrendle3766
@garethrendle3766 4 года назад
bootleg ferules are great until you have to trace a fault on the system and end up cutting the ferule off to separate wires to test, then some will be too short to re-connect. there are pros and cons to this. You should also have brown sleeving on any Line conductors that are not already brown.

From the programmer you had the Brown wire as call for Hot Water and the Black for call for Heating, But you talk about a red wire for call for Hot water going down the white to the cylinder stat (common) and the yellow being the switched call for heat from the cylinder stat. In the diagram you have it labelled as red from programmer for call for Hot water. Confusing! lol

I have a problem where my Hive system was working for 2 years, suddenly when I request central heating then it lights up like it's requesting it from the boiler, but the boiler doesn't start up. It works when I request hot water though. Any idea what colour wire I'm probably looking for in my wiring centre? I can trace the 2 wires from my Hive unit that request hot water, or central heating, but I don't know what they should be connected to in the wiring centre. Cheers from York!

Great video you have made it simple to understand top man . There’s a little tip for coding of wiring . Where the red tape is used this should be brown as the wiring is the new harmonised wiring ( ie brown and blue ) . You can buy brown, blue , green yellow sleeving from the wholesalers . I have sometimes come across people using the earth and using it as a conductor as they have only run a 3 core to the cylinder stat DON,T. Run a 4 core then everyone is happy . That also applies to the room stat .NEVER USE USE THE EARTH AS A CONDUCTOR EVER . As per regs . Hold tight 🤪

Hi James. Here's a question for you.... I'm 37 now. Have been plumbing for a few years and am OFTEC. When I can justify the spend in a couple of years, is it still worth getting a Gas qualification? What's your opinion on Hydrogen boilers and how do you think the roll out will happen. Lay new pipes, or slowly introduce boilers that will cope with a blend and as boilers age and get replaced, upgrade to a boiler that can take a higher blend or is there going to be millions of boilers getting swapped out in a short period of time? When all this malarkey 😷 is over, let me know when you're passing by the Maids Head by the fens, I'll buy you a drink🍺.
@markgilder9990
@markgilder9990 4 года назад
Christian B Hough One of the gas boys told me that new builds after 2030 will not have gas boilers installed. But there are still millions of gas boilers that will still need servicing etc. Renewable energy seems the way to go with ground source heat pumps and solar etc.

Hi Thank you for your kind and easy to understand explanation. Would wrong flow direction of the zone valve cause problems such as boiler not firing !? I have a S system with a heating boiler only in one floor lower and the valves, pump and hot water tank in upper floor. I have changed 3 zone valves and a new pump, the boiler does not fire. I keep reseting the boiler, the indicator diode for heating becomes green but goes off again. It remains in stand by position. Any advise please !? Thx

I love this video, honestly I must have watched a million videos before this one, and no one says it as easy as you - finally got the confidence to try out my own wiring centre. Question: How would the wiring differ if I had two stats and valves for CH (one upstairs and one downstairs) and then one for HW, and my programmer could do them all separately? I assume if I doubled up the wiring from each stat to each CH valve as you said here, I wouldn't be able to do the separate controls since either room stat would trigger the boiler for the whole house and not separate?

Hi, Stanley twin burner , oil vortex burner and a wood fired stove to heat a 2500 square feet 2 storey house. Plumber has recommended a Multi Pod system. Downstairs has under floor heating . Upstairs has rads. I’m an Electrician but there’s no schematic issued by plumber.. The home owner wants the Stanley twin burner in the kitchen. With the condenser boiler outside as back up. There’s probably no need for both but the client wants what the client wants. Can any one out there tell me where to get a wiring system at a reasonable cost. The multi pod takes the three heat sources but only has one heat output. So the cooker and burner might share the motorised valves. Will I have back feeds ? I’d prefer a wiring system or control box to take care of this

Hi buddy. Love the plumbing vids. Just learning about how to plumb up my new build. Any chance you can share something about an air source heat pump with underfloor heating system? Cheers. H T!
