Hey I tried to start woodworking and pyrography (wood burning) and started using rotary tools. I fell victim to one of the biggest mistakes you mentioned in a previous video, I lost confidence in myself and gave up. Luckily, after a day of watching your videos (a solid year later), and seeing what and how you do what you do, I'm happy and excited that I kept my old rotary tool. I need to grab a flex shaft apparently, but I'm definitely getting back into wood carving with a power tool, and you're definitely to thank! I'll almost definitely look into getting a new rotary tool maybe a Stylo too, and a wire tip wood burner. Awesome videos!
Hey there! Glad the videos are helping! Please don’t put unreasonable demands on yourself when you start carving...or in life. Have some grace on yourself, it takes time to learn. Apply yourself and have fun with it :)
I've been watching other carving videos on RU-vid. Can I just say that your a much better teacher & Carver. Seriously you bring a real professionalism & joy to this. I just keep ending up coming back to your videos. Also my grandmother was a professional artist & even she couldn't draw a perfect circle. A circle is the hardest thing you can draw. So thanks for showing this because I suck at drawing. Definitely plan to use the carbon paper trick. I've also been tracing my wood pieces onto scrap paper just so I can practice doing a drawing/design on it without having to worry about messing it up. Or wanting to figure out the drawing pattern before putting it to wood. Definitely need the circle thing. Yet another item to get for my wood working bin. Oh well I'll get them little by little & they're pretty cheap.
Great video! I just carved my first Celtic knot. I started out with traditional woodworking tools and finished with my Dremel. I wish I had seen your video before I attempted it.
I am really enjoying your instructions. I have hand carving for a lot of years and really enjoy it now i want to power carve on beer mugs that i make. hand carving does not work well on hard woods. I am watching all your videos all the time to learn more and more, keep it up it is really helping ,thanks again Julien Lamarche
Excellent as always, I've picked up so many little tricks and made it through my first few projects. Seen the parts I need to work on like steadying my hand, a surgeon I am not. Been a digital artist and network engineer, so even drawing with a pencil is something I haven't done in many years.
Probably not a good idea unless you want all that evil trapped in your guitar. Kind of what dream catchers do, they catch and hold on to bad things like bad dreams...
Not sure how many times I've re-watched these videos but you are a great teacher to this old guy! Ha ha ha. As a "classically trained" cartographer, maybe try using a French Curve instead of free handing. Can make drawing a whole lot easier. Also, can you use the quick change chuck on the classic Dremel & it's extension wand (can't remember what it's called)? Thanks!
Haha thanks man! I need to use my French curve.. I haven’t done that yet. I may break it out this weekend! Yes I need to order more Dremel multi-chucks!
Matt....like all of your videos...you have shared and explained in detail the procedures needed to become successful in woodcarving projects. Thank you so much and stay safe and stay home!!!!!! Your biggest fan!!!!😀😀😀
That was awesome mate! (I feel like such a fool not knowing about fog proof glasses! Haha) You have such a great teaching style. This is a brilliant video for people just getting into the joys of carving. 👍😊👣 It's funny seeing this video now. I recently made a similar style necklace for my niece. Mine was made of stone though 😊
I've been homebound before we were forced to and found a new favorite hobby engraving. You really keep things simple and explain everything in detail. It is much appreciated by my novice brain. A few options I opted for a cheaper version(not cheap, survive on VA disability) but they are working so far! My Dremel flex shaft works well as I have been through two Stylo's in the past 9 months. I was wondering what the next step up in power has the approximate dimensions and portability of the Stylo would be that isn't that expensive? Thanks!
I have been inspired to give this a try. You’re a great teacher. I’ve got a dremel, diamond and carbide bits and basswood. I’m having trouble with excessive fuzzing. Any suggestions?
Hi Matt.... Since I've started using the pink and brown bits included in my accessory kit for my sanding needs and the results are awesome! Give it a try...
Hi with wood art if you can could you make a quick video on making a wood en charm with resin in it/with it :) I really enjoy the clear tips and trick's you give take care :)
For the outer design, you could measure exact lengths and put dots on several points. Then you could free hand from point to point as opposed to the whole thing. Should turn out cleaner and require less revision.
Cornelius, amigo que ha pasado, no has hecho más vídeos con cuchillos, un mango de buena madera tallada, con unas incrustaciones de piedras y resina.Algo para recordar esa bella época; Cuando iniciaste el canal. Un abrazo 🤗
New subscriber here. thanks for the awesome content. I got some questions tho. How long would you say your burs last and when would you know it's run it's course. Do you ever use the dremel to sand with or do you do most of it manually? Is there an upside to both ways? I bought the Dremel 3k, your opinion...would it be ok to carve with as i know it's a bit thicker.
quick question what are the best way to clean all rotary burrs can we simply just wipe them down with a clean cloth? and for diamond burrs is it better to water when carving stone or marble? i read that you should always add water but in some youtube videos that i'v watched didn't do that so is preference to add water when using diamond burrs? :)
I have seen in some of your past videos a turntable to place the wood on as you are carving. Is that something that you made or is this something I can buy. I really like to ideal. Also what would you recommend as a basic set of burrs to use when starting out. Thanks
I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. ru-vid.comUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.
Owing to lockdown i finally got time to pursue my long cherished wish to try wood carving...and this channel is the best thing that has come my way...thank you for your wonderful videos...beginner as I am to this craft i am seeking your advice Sir... Dremel as i understand is a name of a brand of rotary, so is there any other rotary that u can suggest instead of dremel not that I have any problem with particular brand but i am from India and there aint much option..or if u can suggest which is better brand(available in Indian market) that i can go for as i am planning to purchase my median rotary. Anticipating ur responses. Edit: I have two options available on Amazon: 1. Dremel 3000 (3000-1/25 EZ) 2. Homdum Multifunctional Mini Rotary Die Grinder Kit with Flexible Shaft and 350 Pieces of Accessories ...which one do you suggest for beginner?
Hey there! Glad to have you aboard bro! I always love hearing from people from different countries. I would suggest the Dremel since they are a bigger brand. You could easily get replacements. But if that is a little expensive go for the one you mentioned. Both of them will essentially do the same thing. Good luck with your new hobby! I look forward to seeing you around my friend!
I said this in another video about 5 minutes ago but this just looks low quality, is it because of using a dremel, or lighting, or cameras? Do you have any videos with hand tools?
Hey man, I'm new to this. , started making flags. When carving out stars I get fuzzy edges, how can I correct that, I am carving in pine wood. #105 tool
