Glad I could help! Thanks for commenting. The synchronize folder feature is really good to know about.

@@naturemikephoto I agree, a good and valuable tutorial to keep track of. Finding edits and syncing/fixing folders. I need to find more info about “Export > Export Locations” though and the options there in. Should I export to within parent/original folder (why are you setting specific folder instead of Export to original folder?) and add to catalog making it easier to compare, or should I export to a main “export bin” (like Joe Allam does it)…advantages and disadvantages. Ok, I watched your “How to export photos from Lightroom Classic ” video, you Export to “Mikes Exports” on the desktop.

I subscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud recently and intend to use Lightroom rather than Lightroom Classic. I noticed you’re using Lightroom Classic while I’m using Lightroom, which doesn’t sync with Photoshop after the editing. Could you please advise?

great video! Thank you. But is it just me or do we not have the 'editing options' 14:00 dialog box anymore in 2024? It just opens in Photoshop as the original lightroom file. Is there a way to bring back the options dialog box? Also notice it says 'Refresh Folder' instead of 'sync folder' now. And it doesn't bring up the dialog box it did in the video showing any files that aren't sync'd. That's a shame because having that box is really helpful. Any thoughts, please?

Hi, are you sure you're opening a file that has been edited in Photoshop and saved with layers? This dialog box only appears when you're heading back to Photoshop, you will not see it if the file has not been edited in Photoshop before. The dialog box is still part of the latest version of LRC. If you do not see it, you are either experiencing a bug or you are doing something wrong such as trying to open a file that has not previous been edited in PS. To start i might try to restart your computer and see if that fixes the issue. Hope this helps.

Also, I just checked on my version of LRC 13.3 and when I right click / control click on the folder it still says synchronize folder. Are you using a PC by any chance? Some times there are slight nuances between mac and pc working in the software but as far as I knew, the PC version also said "Synchronize Folder." Lastly, make sure you are using LRC and not LR

Thank you! Now the problem that I have and I can’t find any solution to is when I’m done editing in photoshop and I want to quit or close photoshop the window pops up asking me save, don’t save, cancel. My photoshop looks like it doesn’t know where to save the files in order to synchronize with Lightroom. When I click on save photoshop opens up another window asking me where to safe and what format. I tried many variations and every time I save it the photo doesn’t go back to Lightroom. Not sure what am I missing here..

Hello, if you hit "Save" you should not be getting a dialog asking about file types or where to save. PS should automatically save in the same folder that the original file was in and it will save the file as a TIff or Psd depending on the preference you have set. Tiff is the default. Keep in mind if you do anything in PS including turn a layer on or off after saving PS will ask you if you'd like to save when closing. It's very important that you are opening the images from Lightroom Classic and leaving Lightroom Classic open when editing in Photoshop. If you close Lightroom, the files will not get synced. Now, there are times when the files do not get synced properly for due to some sort of bug and you have to do it manually by Control or right clicking on the folder in LR and choose "synchronize folder." This typically happens when using "save as" and saving multiple versions of the same image.

Thank you for you response! I still have that problem, every time I try to save and exit photoshop would ask me where and in what format to save, so I have to manually select and hit save one more time, then the photo syncs in Lightroom CC. But before I was able to just click command+ save and exit photoshop and the photo would be send to LIghtroom CC but now seems like photoshop wants to ask me every time where and how..@@naturemikephoto

Hmm, that's strange. I'm not sure why that is happening. You might want to go onto the Adobe Photoshop forum and see fi you can find an answer there. If you get the problem resolved, I'd love to hear about it.@@mkborisov

are there any particular settings you have to select in either lightroom or photoshop for this to work. i can send pictures to photoshop from lightroom no problem, when i save the picture it does not transfer back to lightroom.

Hello Greg, there are no settings that you need to change. As long as you are loading a photo into Photoshop from Lightroom and leaving Lightroom open The photos should go back into Lightroom automatically. Are you using Save or Save as? Make sure that you have your sort set to capture time this way the photo will show up right next to the original RAW. Alternatively you could set the sort to edit time and the picture should appear at the top or bottom of the folder depending on which direction to sort is set to. If you still do not see the photo in Lightroom check your hard drive and make sure it’s in the folder that you expect it to be and if it’s there it should be in Lightroom. Keep in mind if you use save ass more than once Lightroom will more than likely not sync up that second save as and you may have to manually sync the folder by right clicking the folder on a PC or control clicking on a Mac and choosing synchronize folder. Let me know if this helps and if you get it working. Please excuse any typos as I am voice texting on my phone

@@naturemikephoto thanks for the reply, I think I figured it out....I was watching and then pausing to try and do it myself..after watching some more of the video I realized I was in the all synced folder and the pictures were being saved in their actual folder

@@naturemikephoto Hey there, thanks for the video! Any tips on how to navigate this with the new LR and PS 2023? As above I have no problems importing LR --> PS, but when I save (or "save as", I've tried both), I don't see anything up in LR. I actually don't even see a folder synchronization option that you show in your video, which I thought was odd. Would really appreciate any insight you might have, thank you!
@naturemikephoto
@naturemikephoto Год назад
@@chitbhanusingh7389 Hello, You are using Lightroom Classic correct? The 2023 versions are exactly the same as in the video. You should be able to control click (Mac) or right click (pc) on any folder to synchronize it. Make sure that you are in fact clicking on a folder and not a collection. If you click on a collection you will not see the synchronize folder because it's not actually a folder.

I found your tutorial when working on a photo book in LR Classic with scanned photos. Sometimes when I edit in PS I find the wrong photo is saved in collections folder I am using for the book. I have to try and find the edited photo. Don't know if it is relevant but I also have Adobe web and the instructions I am following imply that it is automatically saved to the book module. Would the synchronize folder apply here?

Thanks for your comment. I understand that the name might fool some people but that is not what it is intended to do. I have a lot of clients that get tripped up switching between the two pieces of software so I created this video to explain the in’s and outs of the process.
