Anthony, thanks for sharing the workflow! to the problem of not being able to use content-aware fill on a smart object: you can copy the smart object layer, rasterize it and then apply the content-aware fill. You can also mask the filled-in parts so that you can always go back to the smart object layer and make adjustments to it

Anthony I am so very glad I found you. I have been sitting here all morning trying to find out how to get my photo back to LR after merging them... and not been able to do so. Discovered my file handing was not set to always .. so hopefully got it right now. By the way am new to PS and am trying to learn about it. (Hard). I live in the bush in SA on the boarder of Kruger where I spend most of my time. Am now trying to learn about wild flowers and using macro merging them. Just see that my tiff file is too big to send back to LR so going to start again and put into a PSD file.
Hi thanks for making this easy to follow video. I have a problem though which is that my images, after editing in PS and saving them, are no longer automatically showing up in LRC. They used to but I can't figure out why it's stopped. Any idea?

Great video Anthony. I always learn something from you. It would be quite helpful if you can make one telling us which other photoshop adjustments cannot be done on a smart object.
The only problem that I occur is if I originally open a picture in Photoshop there's no way to send it directly back to Lightroom. Without exporting it to my desktop. Then reopening it with Lightroom. Now if I had a picture in Lightroom I could send it to photoshop edit it save it and then it saves it as said picture in Lightroom at that exact moment but if the picture didn't start in Lightroom then you're kind of screwed
Hello. Thank you for the video. I am having trouble with the slow saving when bringing back the file to Lightroom. I have tried only with adding one layer, no filters, no changes, to see if ti takes long and it does as if the file had a bunch of layers. Is there anything I can reset ? Thanks
Thank you Anthony, more brilliant information. Also noticed on importing back into LightRoom the lens correction option is greyed out though I took your advice and set a preset to do that on initial import.
this feels like super important topic. I have mostly used PS and decided to try LR ... very powerful but this video made me feel those are not well integrated to each others. That dialog at the end where there were 3 copies ... probably needs better explanation ... I am now wondering ... should I do everything in photoshop or not ...
i have a weird issue where the edits are being saved in the original folder where the image is in. so if i have 2 pictures in a folder on a ssd that i put all folders in just for light room pictures. i also have a separate ssd for the light room catalog. if i start working on the 2 photos and i edit them with light room and Photoshop and other software it saves every edited photo in the same folder that the original is in. so if i edited a photo 3 times i have the original photo with 3 edited photos of the same original. i thought all this info was saved in the catalog, im so confused .
Where do the PSD files automatically save to or can you save the file anywhere? If yes then will it automatically reimport to LR? In Classic on a PC it seems to work but on LR Mobile on a Mac they don’t auto reimport when I choose to save my Photoshop edit in a specific location.
Thank you for this video! I am doing exactly the same thing, going from Lr to Ps to remove branches with the Content Aware fill tool. However, when I return to Lr, all the colours of the edited image are off. I can't figure out why this is. I would appreciate any help offered!
Hi Anthony I like your videos about photoshop I’ve delayed learning about photoshop I thought it was to completed but I saw a video on stacking an I didn’t find it that difficult but I do have difficulty once you I’m in photoshop I don’t know how to get out of photoshop in photoshop stacking you said click photoshop icon but do I do that every time I want to leave photoshop or can you recommend other videos that will help me thank you
So, Anthony if you send it over a smart object what would you use to delete the branches if content aware is not available. Clone and Stamp? Erase Tool?
Hi, great video. Imported photos from Lightroom open up zoomed in (even though it says 25% at the bottom left, it looks almost 50% zoomed in), can't see the whole picture as before. Any suggestions?
hey guys, at first thank you very much for this video! Helps me a lot. I am still confused though what I should to with the original file after Lightroom created the 2nd file (TIFF in my case) for me. Isn't the original RAW-file useless from then on? I mean isn't it just senseless using my disk space because I actually wont work in the original file again? Until now I have always been too scared to delete a single original RAW-file because I always had the fear I would make a big mistake by doing so. Can someone help me out how to handle these data? Thx a lot and a nice christmas time!
My Lightroom Classic Preference Dialog Box is not the same and doesn't have the same options and tabs. What would you suggest to be able to access these features?
Great tutorial Anthony, I couldn't find this much info on Adobe support. Generally they have poor instructions and tutorials are not so hot either. Has this happened to you. It's happened to me a t least a few times. I use CC for both LR and PS. On the return trip to LR, Photoshop does not let me save the editing i've just done , instead it wants to save a jpeg (I don't know where that goes) and not sent it to Lightroom . I've had to remove the program and reinstall it. It seem like a glitch. It's really frustration when you hit the save and a save dialog comes up, not just sending the image back to Lightroom
I can to round trip from Lightroom. Can you please help? I am in Lightroom, and I say “edit in photoshop” and it opens in photoshop. I edit in photoshop and hit close, and it prompts me to save. I save it and I snap back to Lightroom but my new photo isn’t there, and the edits I did in photoshop also aren’t there. Any ideas?

My hopes were up as I've always used TIFFS and the file sizes we laughing at my storage. I tried using PSDS instead and the file sizes are exactly the same as the TIFFS. Original NEF is around 50MB and TIFFS and PSDS are around 250MB. Any advice?
My Tiff file is too big. Changed it to PSD file and when I close PS it-comes up asing me "SAVE ON COMPUTER TO CLOUD DOCUMENTS and I have no idea what to do can you help me.
How do you do this with elements? Every time I try and switch from Lightroom to E19, I get a message that editor in elements can’t be opened. And then, sometimes, when I try it again immediately afterward it magically works. Any idea what’s going on?
What would happen if one created a new layer above the smart layer and then did the content aware fill sampling all layers? Is that possible? I'm not by my computer right now so can't test this idea yet 😅
Googled a bit and seems like content aware needs pixels. So a copy of the smart object, turn off the smartness on the copy, content aware and then mask or whatever you like so that only the "filled" part is showed from the non smart layer. Would need to be repeated if you edit the smart layer in ACR, but you kinda get both features 😊
Does anyone watching this know where the actual .tiff file is saved to? I imported a lightroom catalog onto another computer and the .tiff that was edited is in the catalog, and can be seen in the library/develop module but it won't load since it can't be located, which I find odd.
Couldn't you just technically export a TIFF file from LR and edit in PS? Then if you need to make adjustments in Lightroom, just re-export the image again with the same name as the previously exported image and it should relink the new image in photoshop with all the new LIghtroom changes???
With the new changes Lightroom & Photoshop has made.. it is not the same with the CC version to this new current 2020 version. I"m having issues with the newer version getting my edited photo from photoshop back into lightroom. Can you assist?
same, i press save and it doesnt show me a copy in lightroom. its in the original folder saved as a copy in my folder. but not in my lightroom catalog. dont know what to do
To me this is very confusing and makes me not want to use LR..Why not just got to PS use camera raw there and you can do everything...To me PS is the superior editing tool...but it sure makes keeping up with your files more difficult in PS. So what happens if you strictly use LR for cateloging and culling images and then go straight to PS to do all of your editing and then back.. do you still have so many steps ???
