If you want to get good at calligraphy, it takes quite a bit of practice. I'm no calligraphy master, but I've done it long enough to know that it doesn't come easy.

Esencially not, but this kind of wide rulers are more stable and helps to make parallel lines easier.

so the calligaphry alphabet is different from the normal alphabet? So in stead of abcd.. it's ambg? no uppercase? no numbers? no punctuation?

two things i don't understand... the when he "marks off" the 5 nib widths with a second piece of paper and marks it off on the other side too. i have no idea what that means?? i don't know what he is marking or see what's happening. if it's just to mark where to put the upper liner, then why not use the ruler instead of this second piece of paper? wouldn't that be easier? also what is the purpose of marking off? what is its function? second thing i don't understand is how he said don't mark the nib widths like he did w the marker if you're using big bc it will smudge, but didn't he end up doing that with the scroll nib and ink? he used the ink and nib to create the height anyhow. how should one create this nib width measurement on a letter you want to send? i don't think having that marking on the letter very pretty. and should the paper be totally parallel to your chest? or is the paper also at an angle? i read something about having the paper at 90 degrees when writing, what's that about? thanks to anyone who answers 11 years later lol

Thank you for the video but I actually do not think those are humanist early Renaissance letters at all. Also, serifs in calligraphy are not 'additions' but they result of the brush or pen's strokes. And surely that is not the way they are drawn in a minuscule humanist style. As per the specific examples you shown, all the letters' construction is plain wrong. The g and the seriffed m are seriously questionable. In a nutshell, this is a video about what NOT to do in calligraphy. I do not intend to offend anyone but this video cannot be considered a tutorial in calligraphy.
