J.K. Rowling has so of her outlines and first rows in a book I think it’s called “a history of magic“ I have it but I don’t know were it is other wise I would tell you the name. But it stamped on the cover with the British library because it’s samples of the pieces and stuff that are in the Harry Potter exhibit at the British library
Something that helps me evolve my idea is to imagine it as a movie in my brain, I am a very vivid visualizer so I just try to see if it is worth writing
No one will but it will slow you down a lot. Editing uses a different part of the brain than drafting does. Think of "Don't edit while you write." as advice rather than a command. :)
[ Wanda ] imagine your story backwards. Unfold your story in reverse. Ex. It’s a murder mystery, you have a dead guy. The police are around the body. Who is your dead guy, what was he doing when he was killed, what brought him to the location of his death. Did someone call him for example. Who called him, what information did they offer to draw him there. Did he previously know the caller to trust the info, was he betrayed by that trust? If so why, etc. etc.... I guess try and visualize it as the closing scene of a movie and imagine the scenes that led up to that point... good luck!
Nothing but Giant Trees this is where an outline can be a great tool. It’s like a road trip guide. If you want to go from Seattle to San Francisco you could jump on the I-5 and head south, but that wouldn’t be much of a trip or a story. Lol so you map out interesting places you’d like to see along the way, restaurants you’d like to eat at etc. the outline doesn’t give you all the details, it’s just a general guide to help you get from chapter to chapter. Also I find that when I get stuck, I free write and often times it breaks me through a tough spot. I find free writing with one of my characters in mind is particularly helpful. For ex. What’s my character’s favorite color? Where’d he/she grow up? Did he/she have a favorite pet growing up? Once I start detailing that character, ideas start popping out as to where to go next. It works with scenery and locations too... at least for me... I hope it helps! Keep on writing!

I have 2 minor ideas but 1 BIG idea I've been working on for years-an epic fantasy novel that follows multiple protagonists as they explore a world inspired by my favorite childhood fantasy books, movies, and games. (Skyrim, GoT, Dark Souls, LoTR) I finally got over editing-while-writing, which made the process so slow that it took nearly a year to write 20,000 words out of a goal of 300k! #HappyWriter

I’ve written a lot of it but before I completed the actual writing I began to edit my lines...... so I’m half way through line editing and I haven’t even finished the full structure yet! It makes me crazy when I try to think of writing ( I have 5 kids too.... just wait and see how much they do for writing past 6 months of age.. yikes) and now i realise why! I'm currently writing my first novel, have been writing it over the last year. I have my idea, protagonist, antagonist, and side-characters and setting. HOWEVER. I cannot find a decent motivation for my antagonist. I find one idea, but then in writing it does not feel so good. So I struggle with this. I'm on my THIRD draft for my novel. I currently have about six different ideas for my novel or continuation for like, second books haha. But for now I've stuck to writing fanfic. #happywriter
You're halfway there - literally and figuratively. You've already nailed the problem: plotts rise and fall on the motivation for the antagonist. For me, that's the hard part - especially for genre fiction.
Same situation, I'm sticking with fanfiction instead because I can't make original characters to save my life. I have a writing buddy now though, they're very good at making OC's and brainstorming.
1. Idea - stick to the most exciting idea 2. Brainstorming - to come up with the STORY 3. Outline - planning the story 4. Writing - TIME TO GO HOOLO!!! 5. Motivation - a reason 6. Editing - tape it up then, stick it 7. Keep pushing - that's how you were born, your mom kept pushing to give birth 8. Celebrate - novel, BOOM, it's out! FLY!!
Congrats on ur baby and ur best friend’s baby due dates. And I have several ideas but mostly I want to try and focus one story at a time (the ideas are for the different books in the series I’m working on it right now). It’s a YA paranormal fantasy book with a bit of romance in it. love ur videos so much Vivien Your videos really help me out and yes I suffer from self-doubt and thinking my writing is bad and that I should give up. Hello, I just wanna ask for advice. I'm kind of stuck at which time I'm gonna set my history-inspired book too. I have 3 book ideas! One has an outline (thanks to your help from other videos), and two that have character and plot notes ready for an outline. Definitely most excited for my outlined story though for sure 😊 The idea has been in my head over a year and has all the details down, just need to start writing! I’ve started my first novel. I trashed 5 rough drafts and it’s super hard but I am LOVING IT. My only problem is I keep thinking about other ideas. I haven’t even finished the first book yet and I already have ideas for 2 sequels and 3 spin-offs so oof. I’ve really enjoyed world building right now and I feel like I have a lot of these. I also need to a top writing on Notes lol

One way I stay motivated to keep going with the same story is by creating playlists, etc. Playlists full of music I think would fit, animatics that inspire me, aesthetics that fit, etc., and when I feel unmotivated I go through them and it basically gets me excited to write all over again. Also, what I do when I just feel like I *have* to write that other idea, I find a way to incorporate it (usually by making it a story for another character, or a myth that's part of a religion, etc.) into the story. Not only does this help to get it off my mind, but it also helps to really build the world.

Daaaaaaamn!! That is actually great story. Mine is a warrior that did a favour for a king to go take back something important from the king but it was stolen by bad guys. So the warrior when there and sneak at there hide out and manage to took it but didnt manage to escape the bad guys caught him. And was been hostage, a girl saw that and she told everybody from her village but no one believe her so she decided to save him. She manage to save him and quickly went to hiding spot. The warrior didnt thank her cause he was embarass that a girl save her. Then she was like "fine" she was about to walk away but then she relies that they were lost because they were looking for a hiding spot the warrior decided to help her go back (cause the bad guys might know her face already) to her village and then thats where they started the journey and of course they fall in love while they are in a journey. I actually want this to be a anime manga but i decided to make it as novel. This story pop out in my mind because of Way back home cover by funguypiano there is one part that made me cry then i thaught about a sad ending so i decided to make this story which it may or may not have sad ending. And ur story i think is really great cause ur showing people to accept the diffrents in the world so it could be great lesson for the society in this world!!
Im thinking about a light novel of a isekai and i have a few conflicting start-up ideas and also my character is the top gamer and also the son of the top technology researcher which focuses on VR Tech and also has siblings and thinks of games as only games and doesnt mind ruining players (this is just a thing to help) First: the main character dies and goes to another world (common level,zero start) Second: the main character plays a game and goes to another world randomly (kinda common,better start) Third: the main character plays a game of VR then uses account transfer to move his top account to a better version of the game but instead gets a transfer error warning and diff world ETC (first idea,overpowered start) Fourth: the main character finds a random game CD and plays it on VR but cant quit (second idea,unique with a bit common,unknown start) Fifth: the player stumbles upon his father's top secret VR invention right when his father died as the top developer of tecnology and tested it out but apparently you cant quit until a full gameplay has been done and a day in VR equals sixty years in VR also has life support (third idea,too complex,too rare,potential admin good ending) Plot would be that the VR emtions isnt his own or he feels his character emotions instead of his or he just shows more emotion and changes slowly change's his view of the AI and felt love then something bad happens and he desperately tries to revive her since its a game there must be a way right? Then the ending i havent decided yet. Too complex right? I have also developed a few completely different after-start which i thought to myself to just write in different novel's since theyre idea's. Althought i dunno i lack tactic when i write so its painful to read for most but has a good story and always conflicts my brain cells against each other.
i have a dissociation problem where whenever im angry i go to a different world and i come out of my body kinda, i realized recently that the places i go to in my mind and whatever my mind makes up, i can turn them into novels. ive always loved writing but ive never been able to get over writers block, now i know how to. :)

Hi Vivien, a lot of what you said hit home. Especially the 'don't edit while you're drafting'. Oooh! I am so guilty of this. Also a pantser and suck at outlining. That's why I've gone back to basics, story structure, plotting, outlining etc. I have 18 WIPs. Yes. That many. None of them are finished because I edit while writing, get sick of it, self-doubt creeps in and then I get up close and personal with Jimmy, Jack and all his alcoholic little buddies. I'm currently working on the outline and character profiles for my debut novel Alter, which is about a grieving couple struggling to reconnect after losing a child at birth. I've set a quarterly goal to complete them by the end of March and start pages April first. Alter will have a sequel, perhaps be a trilogy. Then, I have the Aftershocks - a series about women support group for those who were molested/sexually assaulted, Jonesing - a series about a recovering addict trying to build healthier habits but can't escape her past, MUSE/Porcelain - a series about an artist with a complicated history and the courage to create, Mikellah - an untitled series about a girl with two disabled brothers who strives to be one kid her parents don't worry about yet has her own just as legitimate problems, and an action/adventure novel idea about a conman turned magician showman whose daughter is kidnapped. Outside of that last one, I clearly write dramatic fiction. I hope the synopsis of my first doesn't create any stress. I currently have five story ideas but Haleakala already writing one of them and am so excited to finish but just don’t know if I ever will. My main idea that I’m currently writing is basically five friends go on a camping trip in the woods and then find a cave that they’ve never seen before and decide to go explore. As they travel deeper through the cave they go back in time and find an ancient evil lurking that is connected to a crystal’s power. They have to find a way to stop it before it can take over the world.
I live on a secluded farm that doesn’t have WiFi and we don’t own a computer. I’ve been writing a story BY HAND about a young girl who kills her little brothers. I’m only on my 1st draft, but I have 1/3 of the book done!
I feel much better knowing that there are other teenagers my age or around it that also want to write. I always felt like I was a bit weird for wanting to write or having all these story ideas in my head, always sitting quietly in my mind all my life. Looking at the comments gives me a sense of closure I never knew I needed.
I personally issues with the timing. It took me six months to finish my book. It's called God's destiny. Due to work and stuff, it felt like I would never make it, but I did. Thanks for helping me pull through.

I have one world i'm building on, with 2 series. In my head they are at the size of MCU My only problem is, I keep changing my outline, and it never comes to anything else than writing notes.

I ve never written a single book but have tones of ideas but not enough time to write them all. I am planning to write my first story more as a writting practice.
