Can I ask a question? using fingered or fingered-on-bass mode how do I tell my SX 900 to play the style using Dominant 13 sus4 voicings like FMaj9/G - as so often found in gospel/soul/rnb type songs ?

Would it not be easier on the SX700 to make a multi-track midi and play along with it? No chord looper on the SX700. Dennis.

Do you need to select manually the style variation and the pattern every time? Can the keyboard just go automatically go through all the patterns once you have memorized them?

As soon as you put each style variation in registration memory button (8 are there) you could advance forth or back pressing the corresponding registration or even assign a pedal to registration changing. Automatic has no sense since the machine could never know\guess when you want a change to take place. So no automatic. Only manual but with a pedal you wont ever raise fingers from keys for variation change making it fluent and easy.

Brilliant Chris! Now let's turn your inspired instrumental into a monster contemporary hit... First we need some lyrics: let's make them pointlessly angry, hugely repetitive and with a good smattering of profanities, including an occasional commitment to bust a cap into someone's bottom, perhaps... whatever that means. We won't be needing a melody for these vocals, of course, just a moronic monotoned mumble should suffice - oh, and while we're at it, we'd best edit out all that (let's face it) largely redundant piano tinkering of yours and just leave the auto bass and drum part playing one chord all the way through. Voila - you and I now have an instant hit with global fame and considerable fortune awaiting us both. [Only joshing, of course - except for the part where musical creativity, natural talent and years of training and practice probably count for nothing these days! OK, be honest, am I sounding a tad "Grumpy-Oldie"?] Seriously, thank you Chris for this very well put together and performed video.

Finally, Yamaha started using touch screen technology, looks like Yamaha is finally catching up. Arranger keyboards just do not sell well in the USA, like they do in England or other parts of Europe. Sadly music teachers in the USA forbid the use of fun features like this as they only want plain jane digital pianos as most of the teachers only wants their students to play on real acoustic pianos.

Sorry Chris, that was a bit of a disappointment for me esp. after the good title got me so excited. I almost didn't comment but without a comment you have no idea what your audience thinks, good or bad so here goes: It started off quite good but quickly dissolved into a video of you basically showing how clever you can play and was of very little benefit to me as a watcher even though it was an enjoyable tune. Effectively you just showed the chord looper and I was hoping that you would show how you would go from the looper through to recording the other tracks and building into a complete song, now that would have been epic, Maybe next time, thanks. BTW appreciate your time

This is not how to write music, and it is how I began in the 1980s and I did not make any progress as a result for a few years. Once I dropped the accompaniments and noodling over the top method, and instead start with a blank page creating EVERYTHING for yourself.............drums, bass, backing chords, harmonies, melodies etc, this is when I finally began to understand music and how to construct it. Playing to backing accompaniments is like riding a bike with stabilisers, and should be temporary at best because writing original music is impossible when using premade backing aids, as it automatically influences what you come up with to make more of the same. However to do that a different keyboard workstation is required, one that has more recording tracks that can be used for any purpose, not hard wired to accompaniment features etc.

Chris, I also thought your performance was excellent, very nice tune that you created, I like your style and musical ideas. Great explanation and demo of the chord looper function. I agree with Mr SteveVee that it would be epic to see the next step in this process. Essentially, you've shown how to make an accompaniment backing track that is divided up into small sections that you could use in any order, as needed for your song idea. Then, you are playing the melody line, with supporting chords, in BOTH of your hands. Whereas normally, when playing live, we'd use chords in LH, melody RH. So, in effect, you are demo'ing another way to play the keyboard, correct? It's rather interesting, because it gives the melody a very rich sound this way, which you can't exactly do in the more traditional way. Wonder if you could explain all of this in further detail, perhaps in a future video? Thanks for your time and efforts!

It's clearly going to take more than one video to explain the whole process from song conception to recording, mixing, re-voicing, exporting, singing, etc, but I will!
