My son was recently admitted to Top 30 NU. I did not read his essay in detail and I told him I was a little disappointed about his essay because his topic was sports (I read many blogs and they all said sport was bad idea). After watching this video, I might change my mind because his stat was not competitive. He wrote about the day I gave him a ball and said someday, we would play football together. For few years, he was among the best soccer players in the city and chosen for a national competition. Then, he had difficult time, failing and losing all motivations in life. It was his last game in the secondary school and we have family team (fathers, students) against other classes. After the game, he realized he did not need to become a superstar to be happy. The game reminded him about the first day he got a ball from me and he felt connection between us. Those helped him to stand up and motivated him to involve in community and to make impact. I changed my mind, maybe I should tell him about how much I was proud of him.

Easy way I have found to begin an essay and get straight into it was using a personal anecdote. Tell a story about yourself briefly, could be one specific moment that caused you to introspect or great change etc. having this anecdote allowed me to branch off without getting off track and maintain a concise application

Ezra Grant you can submit your apps without recommendations and your teachers can add them later as long as you assign them too the common app

This is something that I do after I write my essay. I pull out all the keywords that she talked about and turn it into a rubric. When you read your essay try to check the box as many as you can. Good luck!

I would love to see a video on the under qualified the ones whose schools didn’t at the time have them proper resources to accommodate that person, the schools didn’t offer any extra curricular activities other then Band or track and you had to compete for those limited spots aka a crappy public school system in a low income area.

Guys, I am an international student. And currently I'm working on my essay. It's about how I was miserable all the time moaning about my life. At that time there were happening lots of dreadful stuff. Diagnosed spine problems. My family was broke. And we did need to be frugal. And I was mournful and sometimes I wanted to commit suicide. But I overcome it by learning English, and that changed me. Because of English I stopped dwelling on problems around me and by the time they wore off. I discovered lot of things for myself as well. Learning gave me motivation to learn and do many other things. So now I am an upbeat person. So now I know Turkish. Also I am learning French. From English my multilingual way started. Now because of English I became better. What do you think about this essay?
