hello! What you are calling "open hats" are in fact cymbals. Cheers!
@SilloniusAeldarian
@SilloniusAeldarian 5 лет назад
because he were also talking about close hats? so you dont confuse when he say Cymbals, because close hats is also a cymbals, but it muted
@leonwillett4645
@leonwillett4645 5 лет назад
@@SilloniusAeldarian Yes you are right, a hi-hat is a type of cymbal too :) But when drummers say "cymbals" they are abreviating the full name "suspended cymbals". The thing that goes SPLASHHHH! when you hit it. :)

@@leonwillett4645 ah i get it now, my apologies for that, i'm not a drummer, but i get the poin of your question now
@DarkSideofSynth
@DarkSideofSynth 4 года назад
@@SilloniusAeldarian Yes, they are all cymbals but those suspended cymabls are usually 'crash', 'china', 'ride' and 'splash' and have a different sound than an open hi-hat, and are mapped to different notes on a kit, so if he says "open hi-hat", someone who doesn't understand he used the wrong term, would then go paiting a open hat in their DAW and get a completely different sound and would not understand why. Let alon if we are talking about orchestral cymbals which are usually played with hands (closing together like when you clap) instead of with sticks like a drummer.

The "Open hats" are actually "Crash cymbals", and those ride hits at 3:30 were actually ride bell hits. Other than that, great tutorial!

That thing you said about the tom, "He won't have more hands to play the snare at the same time" Got me thinking i might aswell watch a lot of covers of instruments in general in order to see what's humanly possible that way i can orchestrate based on things that are possible to play in real life aswell, For example also from the tutorial of writing to the brass you said you should leave a bit of space for the player to breathe so i think i should watch a lot of covers of many instruments to see how they work :o

@@ileryon4019 In an orchestral (or concert band) setting, it's common to have multiple percussionists, so it could be possible to have an additional drummer playing the toms.

It sounds nice but it's not realistic, because no drummer could play this. The sixteenths that you programm on snare and hihats are pretty much impossible in this tempo. And as you said drummers only have 2 hands and 2 feet keep that in mind when you use cymbals :)
@AlexMoukala
@AlexMoukala 5 лет назад
There's always a degree of unrealisticness in my tracks that I don't mind exceeding if it makes them sound good. This is VERY noticeable in my orchestrations too if you've got expert ears, and that's because I live by the philosophy of "if it sounds good, it is good". I just don't go way too far with it (like I would if I did Toms & Snares & Cymbals rolls together for example), because in that case it would definitely sound too crazy for me. Not good. If I had a real drummer perform this for a record, I'd probably just make him/her do overdubs or record at a slightly lower tempo if he/she struggles too much with it. 172 is an insane BPM in general
@Starglance
@Starglance 5 лет назад
@@AlexMoukala Right. It's exactly like using a sample with 6 French Horns and adding a harmony tune with the same sample which means 12 French Horns are playing. There are no 12 French Horns in an orchestra which performs live. On the other hand this is possible to do so in a studio as the 6 French Horn players could dub themselves in a second recording. So it's not impossible

Why only 1 drummer? This isn't a 5 piece band. Where an extra drummer isn't economical.

Awesome Alex. Drums gives more power...And I have a request for a video..You've already updated an video named Free VST vs paid expensive ones... You explained very clear about the reason to get a paid library and also recommended to use performance library instead of edirol.. (In case if don't have money) but the issue is it works with full version of Kontakt which is a paid one...It won't support free kontakt player. So Can you make a tutorial with spitfire Labs..You already did about spitfire labs (Soft piano). A melodic music paired with valhalla shimmer.. My request is with limiting only to spitfire Labs instruments can we make an epic orchestral style (Kind of trailer music)...I got this thought as strings were important part of orchestral and also spitfire have 3 sections of strings (Long, short and ensemble). I know compared to paid library option there are not more in it. Like double basses and cellos..Still my request man..If you got some time...Create one with completely spitfire..The reason for my request is I don't even know (Can I make a music.)..😁😁...So before getting in-depth to it..I need to understand efforts can result some decent music...Sorry for the very big bookish comment..🤣🤣

Don't wait for people to always show you if what you aim to do can be done or not before you attempt it. Try doing it yourself and become your own living proof of that possibility.

lost-fi official just because it “sounds nice” doesn’t mean it’s good. Besides, he’s using an acoustic drum library that’s supposed to sound realistic in a realistic sounding orchestra. You might as well write the drums realistically too.

If you keep zooming and unzooming and go left and right and back and forth all the time while you're explaining I'm going to throw up ! The video is very informative and interesting, but I stop before the end because this moving all around the place is really litterally making me feel sick

Loris Gainsborough I think that might be a personal problem. Maybe see a doctor about that, it is kind of strange.
@ParanormalBanana
@ParanormalBanana 5 лет назад
@@j.hateshisjob5137 Actually it is quite common to have physical reactions to visual movement. It's the same thing that makes people want to puke when they read while in a moving car, I have that too. But nevertheless, I assure you that this video's animatiuon is particularly fast and confusing, if not annoying. There is barely enough time to read anything, or understand what is happening.I do the exact same when I am working on my own tracks, it's just the way our minds think when we are wirking and we got used to this zooming and moving all the time, but it makes it very difficult to follow when someone else is the one doing it and we are trying to understand. And also, it can make people feel sick. I'm only telling you because I want to help, if you're too proud to acknowledge it, it's really too bad.

Loris Gainsborough I would never find myself being too prideful to acknowledge something this trivial to my life, thanks for the info, I wasn't aware.
