good luck from massachusetts!! mr. smedes, thank you for all the helpful content! for the unit conversion problem about oil, i found this setup to be pretty straight-forward: (1,000,000 barrels / 1 day) • X days = 73,000,000,000 barrels in other words, it's the rate of extraction multiplied by the number of days required to extract all the available oil.

If you find your conversion factor, just make a proportion with it and the other (3rd) number in the question. Then solve it with butterfly method. Of coarse, you could always skip that first part and set the proportion up if you know how. Then, still solve it with butterfly method. I know this is old. But, maybe it will help a future learner.

I believe the answer to problem 2 should be 15 kg, since the fertilizer is only 34% nitrogen, so in order to get 5 kg of nitrogen you need 15 kg of fertilizer

The 2nd problem, the one with the fertilizer, is completed incorrectly. Since each kilogram of fertilizer is only 0.34 kilograms on nitrogen. You need to divide that 5 kilograms by 0.34 to get the right answer.

For the problem about nitrogen fertilizer, shouldnt they multiply the amount of kg by about 3 to make up for the fact that the fertilizer is only 34% nitrogen??
