You’re walking down the street and see a colossal tower crane. This giant structure seems as if it has always been there; however, it wasn’t when you passed the same road just a few days ago. It is quite surprising to see that happen in such little time. It might make you wonder about how such a structure could be erected in the blink of an eye. So have you ever wondered how tower cranes are built and how these metal monsters pop up on construction sites in just a few days? Well, if you have, you’ll be learning all the answers in this video!
Tower cranes are essential for big construction sites just like hard hats, and they are primarily used for lifting heavy material such as steel and machinery while also providing a stunning view for lunch breaks. Building these towers is construction in itself, and it is a delicate matter that requires hard work and precise measurements.
In a nutshell, it takes a lot of professionals, trucks, and calculations to build a tower crane. However, there is not just one single way to build these towers. Considering the different heights and purposes of tower cranes, there are several changing factors when it comes to erecting these giants, and one minor mistake or wrong calculation can literally ruin the whole construction.
From mounting its base to the addition of the turntable, the entire process of building a tower crane is thrilling, and if you would like to learn more about these impressive structures, be sure to watch our video!

@paisu24
@paisu24 2 года назад
Seeing cranes self assembling is rare and maybe not visible because they are rising at low speeds. Cranes that are in buildings are lifted diffrently, it is mounted in the building and able to lift itself up to diffrent floors. Theyre mostly dismantled by Mobile cranes or special disassembly cranes. Some parts may remain in the buillding, but most are able to be removed

@boeystuffinaround5290
@boeystuffinaround5290 Год назад
Those cranes in the middle of the building are usually put in the emergency stairwell with tie in points in flooring, when the jobs finished the base remains and stairwells are added. Hydraulic cylinders with outriggers lift the crane towers up while a new section is added to the base via trolley. That's how they gain height

I would hate to be a construction worker being near those things since your life is totally dependent on their skill and everyone that constructed it. I could imagine you would have very little time to react to an error unless you knew what to look for and the "grunt" level guys probably know little about the cranes weaknesses or might just be busy not looking when an accident is about to happen.

Just subscribed it's been bugging me all my life but whats the whole point of of luffing cranes compared to normal tower cranes?
@Desh727
@Desh727 3 года назад
Luffing towers typically have more versatility. When they are boomed up higher they can have relatively high capacity for a tower crane. Also being able to boom up higher and tighter allows them to avoid swinging into buildings when not in use. (Tower cranes are meant to swing with the wind when they are off). Also being that they only need to be boomed out as far as they need to reach, they dont have to fight the wind and torque as much as a hammerhead tower crane or T top. The benefit of a hammer head tower crane is simply just the range they have, and also the speed in which they can reach those far away ranges. I've operated towers with a jib that is 240 ft long, which means you can reach anything within 240 ft of the tower. You can also trolley out thst distance very quickly. When reaching out far with a Luffer once the boom angle starts getting lower and lower the horizontal distance traveled becomes very very slow. You would also be hard pressed to find many luffing tower cranes with a boom that long. The longest luffing boom tower I've ran is 180ft. Generally, luffing towers are better for going high, and T tops are better for covering more ground. Hope that helped.

The base section must be poured and set and density/ harness tested 30 days after its setting of the crane base before the rest of the sections can be built! No tower crane can show up and operate same day they appear to show up overnight because you don’t notice the base pour a month before it “appeared” (tower crane operate in training here )

can the mast area of a Tower Cranes be converted in to an elevator shaft after the constructing is finished?
@autumn_leaf8441
@autumn_leaf8441 Год назад
It could, but it wouldn't really be practical. -The individual pieces would need to be more complex to make, bigger and heavier. You would also have to add extra parts and pieces to the for the actual elevator. That all adds up to a far more expensive crane. -It would also be a lot more difficult and burdensome to put together, which would slow down the building process and increase the cost of labor. Also, given that some projects need multiple cranes and you'd have to take all of the cranes down after the project was complete would multiply the lost time. Given that cranes are just tools to constructing a building, it would be problematic if they took an unnecessarily long amount of time to build. -The ladder within the crane is used for the construction and deconstruction of the crane. Every time a new piece is added or removed, the workers need to properly connect it or disconnect it from the tower, meaning that they need to climb up the tower *during* construction and deconstruction. If you have an elevator shaft, then you'd need make both a ladder and an elevator, which kinda defeats the purpose. -Finally, cranes are made to be as balanced and stabilized as possible, despite dealing with wind and moving large items around. Having moving parts within the tower and making the top part more heavy (as the elevator would usually stay at the top since the person used it to get up there) would negatively affect it's balance and make it a lot less stable. The entire design of the crane would have to be altered to account for that, but that would make it more clunky and expensive. It would be convenient to have an elevator, but if the person isn't afraid of heights and doesn't mind a bit of a workout, the ladder option is a lot more time-efficient, cheaper, stable, and easier to build.

Serious error. 4300 ft*lbs of torque would be more for a 1 3/4" or 2" bolt and not 5/16". Also, it's cables not ropes 3:37. Ooops. I think you guys should change your name to Wanabee Engineer. Tower cranes are the most unsafe structural engineering in the world. All tower cranes need to be built with way more steel and be much wider in width and foundation. I'm no structural engineer though anyone knows that building a single column of bricks to a given height threshold is the most unstable structure possible. All large height cranes need to be several widths wider, with an even wider solid foundation structure with several tied supports to be anywhere near safe, just as the tallest building are engineered. Until this happens in tower crane design, all tower crane manufacturers have a serious flawed design waiting to fall. No human being should have to operate at those extreme dangerous heights, all tower cranes should be remote controlled from the ground.
